Abu Bakr (Abdullah ibn Abi Quhafa) (Arabic: عبد الله بن أبي قحافة, Transliteration: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Quḥāfah, c. 573 CE - 634 CE) also known as Abū Bakr as-Șiddīq (Arabic: أبو بكر الصديق) was a senior companion (Sahabi) and the father-in-law of the Islamic prophetMuhammad. He ruled over the Rashidun Caliphate from 632–634 CE when he became the first Muslim Caliph following Muhammad's death. As Caliph, Abu Bakr succeeded to the political and administrative functions previously exercised by Muhammad, since the religious function and authority of prophethood ended with Muhammad's death according to Islam. He was called Al-Siddiq (The Truthful) and was known by that title among later generations of Muslims.
As a young man, Abu Bakr became a cloth merchant and he traveled extensively in Arabia and neighboring lands in the Middle East, through which he gained both wealth and experience. He eventually came to be recognized as the chief of his clan. On his return from a business trip to Yemen, he was informed that in his absence Muhammad had openly declared his prophethood. Not long after, Abu Bakr accepted Islam and was the first person outside the family of Muhammad to openly become a Muslim. He was instrumental in the conversion of many people to the Islamic faith and early in 623, Abu Bakr's daughter Aisha was married to Muhammad, strengthening the ties between the two men.

"I've been charged with treason, I've been charged with sedition, with murder, conspiracy to murder, [stockpiling] guns...." Abu Bakr, the fiery 73-year-old leader of Jamaat al Muslimeen, rattles off the many accusations that the government of Trinidad and Tobago has leveled against him.
"Nothing has stuck, because it's fabricated," he continues. "They list all the charges in a book, and they just throw the book at me....

BBC Newsnight's Secunder Kermani looks at the rise of the group and its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The rapid advance across Iraq of militant fighters from the Islamic State has thrown the country into chaos and led to US air strikes against their key positions. Fighters from the group, which was formed in April 2013 under its former name Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (Isis), have made substantial gains in northern Iraq in recent months, forcing tens of thousands of people from religious minorities to flee their homes.

The Man Who Tried to Overthrow the Trinidad Government: Interview with Abu Bakr

At his compound on the outskirts of Port of Spain, the man responsible for the only attempted militant Islamic overthrow of a Western government is smiling.
That's not prosecution, that's persecution!"
Bakr has mellowed a bit in his old age, but he still relishes the opportunity to serve as a thorn in the side of the government with whom he has clashed for decades. Depending on which local you ask, "The Jamaat" is either a jihadi group, a vast criminal organization, an invaluable community resource providing jobs and social services to Trinidad's disadvantaged, or a combination of all three.
But everyone agrees that the coup that Bakr led in 1990 — which held the state hostage for six days, unleashed widespread looting and chaos, and resulted in 24 deaths and the shooting of the prime minister — changed the country forever.

Excerpts from the speech at the Grand Mosque in Mosul by ISIS Caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
ISIS emir and newly, self-appointed Caliph for all Muslims blesses mankind with his first public appearance in a video recorded at a mosque in Mosul. In his first appearance, Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi enlightens misguided Muslims and informs them that he too is, in fact, imperfect.
Excerpts from his speech were translated exclusively for Monitor Mideast.
Al Baghdadi's first lecture consists of interpretations he gave to Quranic verses, whilst some other quotes were plagiarized from the first speech held by the first Sunni Caliph, Abu Bakr.
Taken from The Telegraph:
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State, emerged from the shadows to lead Friday prayers at Mosul's Great Mosque, calling on the world's Muslims to "obey" him as the head of the caliphate declared by the Sunni jihadist group.
The notoriously secretive jihadi, who has never before been seen in public, chose the first Friday prayer service of Ramadan to make an audacious display of power in the city that Salafist Islamists have now controlled for three weeks.
Speaking from the balcony in his new incarnation as self-anointed "Caliph Ibrahim", al-Baghdadi announced himself as "the leader who presides over you", urging Muslims to join him and "make jihad" for the sake of Allah.
Under his direction, the Islamic world would be returned to "dignity, might, rights and leadership", he said.
"I am the wali (leader) who presides over you, though I am not the best of you, so if you see that I am right, assist me," he said, dressed in a black turban and robe reminiscent of the last caliphs to rule from Baghdad.

Flush with cash and US weapons seized during its advances in Iraq, the Islamic State's expansion shows no sign of slowing down. In the first week of August alone, Islamic State fighters have taken over new areas in northern Iraq, encroaching on Kurdish territory and sending Christians and other minorities fleeing as reports of massacres emerged.
VICE News reporter Medyan Dairieh spent three weeks embedded with the Islamic State, gaining unprecedented access to the group in Iraq and Syria as the first and only journalist to document its inner workings.

Maktab al-Khidamat
The Maktab al-Khidamat, also Maktab Khadamāt al-Mujāhidīn al-'Arab (Arabic: مكتب الخدمات or مكتب خدمات المجاهدين العرب, MAK), also known as the Afghan Services Bureau, was founded in 1984 by Abdullah Azzam and Osama bin Laden to raise funds and recruit foreign mujahidin for the war against the Soviets in Afghanistan. MAK became the forerunner to al-Qaeda and was instrumental in creating the fundraising and recruitment network that benefited al-Qaeda during the 1990s. During the Soviet-Afghanistan war, MAK played a minimal role, training a small group of 100 mujahidin for the war and disbursing approximately $2 million in

Al Qaeda Will Fail To Recruit India's Muslims, PM Says
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said al Qaeda will fail if it seeks to spread its terror network into his country because Muslims there "will die for India." In a video message featuring al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, Al Qaeda announced plans this month to launch a new branch in the Indian subcontinent. But in an interview with CNN, excerpts of which were released Friday, Modi insisted that any such efforts would not succeed. Modi said "If anyone thinks Indian Muslims will dance to their tune, they are delusional. Indian Muslims will live for India. They will die for India. They will not want anything bad for India."

During the Soviet-Afghanistan war, MAK played a minimal role, training a small group of 100 mujahidin for the war and disbursing approximately $2 million in donations from Muslims sourced via a network of global offices in Arabic and Western countries, allegedly including approximately thirty in the United States. MAK maintained a close liaison with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency through which the CIA and the intelligence agency of Saudi Arabia Al Mukhabarat Al A'amah funneled money to Afghan Mujaheddin. The MAK paid the airfare for new recruits to be flown into the Afghan region for training. MAK was closely cooperating with Hezb-e Islami Gulbuddin faction of the Peshawar Seven. As the war ended, a difference in opinion emerged between Azzam and the Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ) led by Ayman al-Zawahiri over the future direction of MAK. Azzam wanted to use the wealth it had generated, and the network it created to help install a pure Islamic government in post-war Afghanistan and opposed "fitna" among Muslims, including attacks against governments of Muslim countries. Al-Zawahiri wanted to use MAK’s assets to fund a global jihad, including the overthrow of governments in Muslim countries deemed un-Islamic. Bin Laden, MAK's most important fundraiser, was strongly influenced by Zawahiri, although he remained close to Azzam. On November 24, 1989, Azzam was killed by the detonation of 3 mines, by unknown assassins. Azzam as well as his 2 sons were killed in the assassination on their way to their local mosque for evening prayers. Following Azzam's death, bin Laden assumed control of MAK and the organization became absorbed into al-Qaeda. Suspects include competing Afghan militia leaders, Pakistani Interservices Intelligence Agency, the CIA, and the Israeli Mossad, as well as those who opposed moving the jihad to the Palestinian territories - including bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri - and the Iranian intelligence.

Al Qaeda's Zawahiri pledges allegiance to new Taliban chief
Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, in an online audio message, pledged allegiance to the new head of the Afghan Taliban in a move that could bolster his accession after the death of Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Omar.
"We pledge our allegiance ... (to the) commander of the faithful, Mullah Mohammad Akhtar Mansour, may God protect him," said Ayman al-Zawahiri, believed to be hiding in a border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan that is a militant bastion.
The authenticity of the recording could not be immediately verified, but it had all the stamps of an al Qaeda video.
Divisions within the Taliban insurgent movement have emerged since the news last month of the death of Mullah Omar.
The swift announcement that Mansour, Omar's longtime deputy, would be the new leader has riled many senior Taliban figures, and Omar's family said this month that it did not endorse the move.
Mansour's position could be shored up by the vote of confidence by al Qaeda, the global militant group that has maintained ties with the Taliban for almost two decades since the tenure of its founder and late leader Osama bin Laden.

Al Qaeda Zawahiri pledges Taliban loyalty; launches new branch in Indian subcontinent
DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, in an online audio message, pledged allegiance to the new head of the Afghan Taliban in a move that could bolster his accession after the death of Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Omar.

"As leader of the al Qaeda organization for jihad, I offer our pledge of allegiance, renewing the path of Sheikh Osama and the devoted martyrs in their pledge to the commander of the faithful, the holy warrior Mullah Omar," Zawahiri added.
Reiterating support for the Taliban is also a tacit rejection of Islamic State, the new ultra-radical Sunni Muslim movement that is ensconced in Iraq and Syria and has gained the support of a few Afghan insurgent commanders.
Al Qaeda is being challenged by Islamic State for leadership of the global jihadist movement, as determined backers of IS have cropped up in Libya and Yemen this year.
Al Qaeda was set up by Arab guerrillas who flocked to Afghanistan to fight Soviet occupation forces in the 1980s. It thrived under the Taliban's 1996-2001 rule in Afghanistan before the U.S. invasion that followed Al Qaeda's Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington drove both groups underground.

Officials from the US State Department and the White House on Wednesday condemned a message from Al-Qaida's No. 2 leader, which used a racial epithet to insult Barack Obama.
The message from Ayman al-Zawahri, which was posted on the Internet on Wednesday, described the president-elect in demeaning terms that implied he does the bidding of whites.
Al-Zawahri's speech was al-Qaida's first reaction to Obama's election victory - and it suggested the terror network was worried the new American leader could undermine its rallying cry that the United States is an enemy oppressor.
The message appeared chiefly aimed at persuading Muslims and Arabs that Obama did not represent a change in US policies.
Al-Zawahri said in the message, which appeared on militant Web sites, that Obama was "the direct opposite of honourable black Americans" like Malcolm X, the 1960s African-American rights leader.
In al-Qaida's first response to Obama's victory, al-Zawahri also called the president-elect, along with secretaries of state Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice, "house negroes."
Speaking in Arabic, al-Zawahri uses the term "abeed al-beit," which literally translates as "house slaves."
But al-Qaida supplied English subtitles of his speech that included the translation as "house negroes."
In Washington, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said the latest message was just "more despicable comments from a terrorist."
The White House echoed these comments.
White House Press Secretary Dana Perino said, "what we have here is more despicable and pathetic comments by al-Qaida terrorists."
She said America was going to have a smooth transition from one administration to the next, "and that will be a period of change in our country."
Perino said the US would maintain its "commitment as a country to fighting terrorism."
Al-Zawahri said Obama's election has not changed American policies he said are aimed at oppressing Muslims and others.
"America has put on a new face, but its heart full of hate, mind drowning in greed, and spirit which spreads evil, murder, repression and despotism continue to be the same as always," the deputy of al-Qaida chief Osama bin Laden said.
He said Obama's plan to shift troops to Afghanistan is doomed to failure, because Afghans will resist.
Al-Zawahri did not threaten specific attacks, but warned Obama that he was "facing a Jihadi (holy war) awakening and renaissance which is shaking the pillars of the entire Islamic world; and this is the fact which you and your government and country refuse to recognise and pretend not to see."

It is believed that the first bombing attack involving bin Laden was the December 29, 1992, bombing of the Gold Mihor Hotel in Aden in which two people were killed.
It was after this bombing that al-Qaeda was reported to have developed its justification for the killing of innocent people. According to a fatwa issued by Mamdouh Mahmud Salim, the killing of someone standing near the enemy is justified because any innocent bystander will find a proper reward in death, going to Jannah (Paradise) if they were good Muslims and to Jahannam (hell) if they were bad or non-believers.[107] The fatwa was issued to al-Qaeda members but not the general pu

New Delhi: Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Maulana Mahmood Madani said on Saturday that world’s top terrorist and ISIS boss Al Baghdadi will not be allowed to become a hero amongst Indian Muslims.
“Baghdadi is not a jehadi, he is a fasadi (mischievous element). It’s a local fight that cannot be linked to Islam,” Madani told News24 Editor-in-Chief Anurradha Prasad during the TV channel’s chat show "Aamne Saamne", referring to the strife in Iraq and Syria.
“There are reports of hundreds of Muslims from Britain and Australia fighting alongside ISIS. But Baghdadi will have no impact on the Indian Muslims because secularism and peace-loving sentiment is an inborn quality of the Indians,” said Madani.

While asserting that the Indian Muslim youth will not get attracted to the likes of Baghdadi and Al Qaeda leader Ayman Al Zawahiri, Madani also stressed in the same breath that as a long term strategy, equal opportunity to Muslims should be given and their grievances should be addressed.
“There is restlessness among the Muslim youth that some of them are being framed in terror cases,” he said. In this context, he referred to the Batla House encounter and said that a time-bound judicial inquiry should be ordered into the whole incident. “People take objection when we make this demand. What’s wrong in this?”
When asked why Al Zawahari and Baghdadi were eyeing Indian Muslims for recruitment, Madani said that the Indian Muslim was by far more prosperous and successful than the Muslim in West Asian countries and the other nations of the Indian sub-continent.
Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interview to CNN in which he said that the Indian Muslim will live and die in India, Madani said this was a well-known fact and its assertion by Modi was akin to a “pleasant breeze from an open window”. Madani said that this comment by the Prime Minister should be appreciated. “We should not analyse the comment by putting ifs and buts,” he said and added that Modi sounded positive for secularism before the elections as well as during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort. When asked whether the common Muslim shared his opinion about Modi, he said that the average Indian Muslim will not take Modi’s word for it so easily. “The image that Modi has among the Muslims and what they have gone through... it’s not so easy for him (Muslim) to believe in Modi. We will have to change all this through a long-term process,” said Madani. Asked whether the Muslims felt safer in the Modi regime because of his new approach, Madani said: “The Muslim was safe, is safe and will remain safe in India, no matter who becomes the prime minister. PMs can come and go, but how can the Muslim feel unsafe in his own country?”
The Jamiat leader said that one of the reasons for Modi’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections was that he chose not to use the plank of communalism. “But the situation reversed in UP when they tried to communalise the bypolls, and they got the result,” Madani said, referring to the BJP’s rout in the bypolls under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath, who had made “love jihad” an election plank. When asked to comment on the agenda of the RSS in states like UP, Madani said that whosoever was trying to instil insecurity amongst Muslims by harping on divisive agenda was not only a fool, but also a traitor. “If it is being done as a planned strategy, then that individual is a traitor.” Asked to comment whether this meant that Adityanath and BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj should be tried for sedition for raking up the “love jehad” issue and for their assertion that ‘madrassas teach terrorism’, Madani said: “I just want to pray for them to the Almighty. I pray that the Almighty give them brains and put them on the right path.”

Alex also analyzes the media's incessant attempts to shape public opinion in favor of war, the latest being CNN's Christiane Amanpour who said bombing Syria is America's "moral" obligation. On today's show, Alex welcomes ex-CIA officer turned activist and journalist Ray McGovern to discuss the unfolding situation regarding Syria's weapon disarmament. Alex also discusses the corruption and degradation of youth through symbols and messages embedded in the modern music industry with minister and author Keith Hudson. Hudson is also the father of pop star Katy Perry. We'll also take your calls on this live worldwide transmission.

It is believed that the first bombing attack involving bin Laden was the December 29, 1992, bombing of the Gold Mihor Hotel in Aden in which two people were killed.
It was after this bombing that al-Qaeda was reported to have developed its justification for the killing of innocent people. According to a fatwa issued by Mamdouh Mahmud Salim, the killing of someone standing near the enemy is justified because any innocent bystander will find a proper reward in death, going to Jannah (Paradise) if they were good Muslims and to Jahannam (hell) if they were bad or non-believers.[107] The fatwa was issued to al-Qaeda members but not the general public.
In the 1990s, bin Laden's al-Qaeda assisted jihadis financially and sometimes militarily in Algeria, Egypt and Afghanistan. In 1992 or 1993 bin Laden sent an emissary, Qari el-Said, with $40,000 to Algeria to aid the Islamists and urge war rather than negotiation with the government. Their advice was heeded. The war that followed caused the deaths of 150,000–200,000 Algerians and ended with the Islamist surrender to the government.
It has been claimed that bin Laden funded the Luxor massacre of November 17, 1997,[108][109][110] which killed 62 civilians, and outraged the Egyptian public. In mid-1997, the Northern Alliance threatened to overrun Jalalabad, causing bin Laden to abandon his Najim Jihad compound and move his operations to Tarnak Farms in the south.[111]
Another successful attack was carried out in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan. Bin Laden helped cement his alliance with the Taliban by sending several hundred Afghan Arab fighters along to help the Taliban kill between five and six thousand Hazaras overrunning the city.[112]
In February 1998, Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri co-signed a fatwa in the name of the World Islamic Front for Jihad Against Jews and Crusaders, which declared the killing of North Americans and their allies an "individual duty for every Muslim" to "liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque (in Jerusalem) and the holy mosque (in Mecca) from their grip".[113][114] At the public announcement of the fatwa bin Laden announced that North Americans are "very easy targets". He told the attending journalists, "You will see the results of this in a very short time."[115]
Bin Laden and Al-Zawahiri organized an al-Qaeda congress on June 24, 1998.[116] The 1998 U.S. Embassy bombings were a series of attacks that occurred on August 7, 1998, in which hundreds of people were killed in simultaneous truck bomb explosions at the United States embassies in the major East African cities of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi, Kenya. The attacks were linked to local members of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, brought Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri to the attention of the United States public for the first time, and resulted in the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation placing bin Laden on its Ten Most Wanted list.
In December 1998, the Director of Central Intelligence Counterterrorist Center reported to President Bill Clinton that al-Qaeda was preparing for attacks in the United States of America, including the training of personnel to hijack aircraft.[117] At the end of 2000, Richard Clarke revealed that Islamic militants headed by bin Laden had planned a triple attack on January 3, 2000 which would have included bombings in Jordan of the Radisson SAS Hotel in Amman and tourists at Mount Nebo and a site on the Jordan River, the sinking of the destroyer USS The Sullivans (DDG-68) in Yemen, as well as an attack on a target within the United States. The plan was foiled by the arrest of the Jordanian terrorist cell, the sinking of the explosive-filled skiff intended to target the destroyer, and the arrest of Ahmed Ressam.
A former U.S. State Department official in October 2001 described Bosnia and Herzegovina as a safe haven for terrorists, and asserted that militant elements of the former Sarajevo government were protecting extremists, some with ties to Osama bin Laden.[119] In 1997, Rzeczpospolita, one of the largest Polish daily newspapers, had reported that intelligence services of the Nordic-Polish SFOR Brigade suspected that a center for training terrorists from Islamic countries was located in the Bocina Donja village near Maglaj in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1992, hundreds of volunteers joined an "all-mujahedeen unit" called El Moujahed in an abandoned hillside factory, a compound with a hospital and prayer hall.

At his compound on the outskirts of Port of Spain, the man responsible for the only attempted militant Islamic overthrow of a Western government is smiling.

Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri has pledged allegiance to the new head of the Taliban.
The announcement came in an audio message, which could not be immediately verified but bore all the signs of an Al Qaeda video.
The pledge to Mullah Mohammad Akhtar Mansour is expected to boost his accession to the head of the extremist group following the death of Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Omar.
Some senior members of the group have questioned his appointment, creating potential divisions.

DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, in an online audio message, pledged allegiance to the new head of the Afghan Taliban in a move that could bolster his accession after the death of Taliban founder Mullah Mohammad Omar.

Mansour's position could be shored up by the vote of confidence by al Qaeda, the global militant group that has maintained ties with the Taliban for almost two decades since the tenure of its founder and late leader Osama bin Laden.

STORYLINE

Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Maulana Mahmood Madani said on Saturday that world’s top terrorist and ISIS boss Al Baghdadi will not be allowed to become a hero amongst Indian Muslims.
