Abraham (/ˈeɪbrəˌhæm, -həm/ (Hebrew: אַבְרָהָם, listen )), birthname Abram, is the first of the three biblical patriarchs. His story, told in chapters 11 through 25 of the Book of Genesis, plays a prominent role in Judaism, Christianity, Islam and the Bahá'í Faith.
According to Jewish tradition and the Bible's internal chronology, Abraham was born in the year 1948 from Creation (1813 BCE). To date, there has been little if any archaeological or other scientific evidence to confirm his existence at that time. Scholars variously consider Abraham to have lived as late as the seventh century BCE, or that he is a later, literary construct and not a historical person. Potentially, excavation of his traditional burial site, the Cave of the Patriarchs at Hebron, along with carbon dating and/or DNA analysis from the bodies in comparison with the shared Y-chromosomal genes among Jewish and Arab people, his patriarchal offspring by tradition, could provide evidence confirming his existence and chronology.
Abraham Alvarez (born October 17, 1982) is an American former professional baseball pitcher who played parts of 3 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Boston Red Sox. Alvarez is legally blind in his left eye.
Alvarez, who is of Mexican American descent, attended Long Beach State University, where he posted a 23-5 record with a 2.56 ERA in three seasons. As a junior in 2003, he was named an All-American by Baseball America after going 11-2 with a 2.35 ERA in 18 starts. He returned to Long Beach State in 2010 to complete a bachelor's degree in history and is the undergraduate assistant pitching coach for the university's baseball team, known as The Dirtbags.
Signed by the Boston Red Sox in 2003 after being drafted 49th overall, Alvarez made his professional debut with the short-season Single-A Lowell Spinners. He posted no record and did not allow an earned run in 19.0 innings over nine starts, struck out 19 and walked just two hitters. He limited opponents to a .138 batting average and did not walk a batter in his first six starts.
Jason Pagara (born July 17, 1992 in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental, Philippines) is a Filipino professional boxer.
He was a Junior Welterweight WBO champion in 2011.
He started boxing at the age of 8 in Leyte, Philippines, as he played with neighborhood friends. He watched his father Reynaldo, who was also a boxer. The wins of Filipino fighters Manny Pacquiao, Rey Bautista and AJ Banal also inspired him.
His younger brother Albert Pagara is also a boxer.
Pagara made his professional debut on September 29, 2006, at the age of 14, defeating Tata Tadena at Jagna, Bohol, Philippines. On July 25, 2009, Pagara defeated Simson Butar-Butar by unanimous decision in a 10-round bout at the Dao Public Terminal in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, Philippines. The judges' scorecards were 100-89, 99-89 and 96-92 all for Pagara.
On June 12, 2011, he beat Juan Carlos Gallego via TKO on round 4.
On September 10, 2011, he was defeated by Rosbel Montoya via 10 round unanimous decision. He later beat Montoya in the sixth round of the Pinoy Pride XV held at the Waterfront-Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
Pinoy Pride or Filipino Pride is a favorable set of beliefs concerning of being Filipino and an expression of Filipino nationalism. People who holds belief in Pinoy Pride asserts that the Philippines, its people and culture are positively different than others.
Different manifestations or observations concerning the Filipino people has been attributed to Pinoy Pride.
One of the more common manifestations of Pinoy pride is when Filipinos attribute the success Filipino nationals or individuals of Filipino descent abroad such as boxer Manny Pacquiao, singer Charice and American Idol season 11 runner-up Jessica Sanchez as a national achievement.
The way Filipinos cope up in the midst of natural disasters and problems, with some managed to still smile amidst such trials, has been attributed to resiliency of the Filipino people as a whole.
The UP Third World Studies Center, has linked Pinoy Pride's manifestation of Filipino resiliency to German sociologist Ulrich Beck's concept of narrated attention, "where the parlance of resiliency ultimately detracts from, rather than allow for, a critical stance towards the zeitgeist of our time".
