If you are ready for a new challenge out of the mainstream, but want to increase and develop your professional skills and opportunities, consider this specialism.

This well established multi-professional team, co-located with SEN and Assist our Autism specialist team, and well supported with an ‘outstanding’ Short Breaks Service, and good community disabilities services, is well placed to deliver to the new SEND agenda. In addition, we contribute to the ‘triage’ model of ‘one front door’ to children’s services, and are progressing specialist early intervention services.

Child protection and work with children in care, in this context presents new challenges and learning opportunities.

This is an exciting opportunity at a time of potential change to be involved in the re- design of the service linked to the children with disabilities strategy and the Innovations project, overseen by Eileen Munro.

This is a specialist post within our Disabled Children’s Team. You must have child protection & statutory social work experience, and some experience of working with Disabled Children, and be able to demonstrate relevant skills, knowledge and experience, and have a social work qualification.

What can Wokingham offer?

Continuity and creativity are central to Wokingham's Children's Services, having a positive impact on children and families and offering a rewarding environment for staff.

As a true learning organisation, Wokingham is one of the pilot authorities working with Professor Eileen Munro and Andrew Turnell to develop new practice and decision-making models across the partnership and implementing the Signs of Safety model. This is a unique opportunity to experience an exciting change programme, placing you at the forefront of helping to lead social workers and partners to work differently. In addition, the implementation and development of an Early Help Hub will continue to improve children's lives and life chances within the Borough.

Wokingham also scores well on quality of life surveys. The town was recently named the 'best place to bring up a family’. It has the lowest crime rate in 25 years, low levels of poverty and, compared to the national average, five-year-old children have a better rate of development. The people of Wokingham are also generally in better health than the average in England.
