The Student Ambassador program provides opportunities to develop your communication and networking skills. You have the chance to meet with a variety of people and speak on behalf of VU and its student body, providing future opportunities for yourself and VU.

Benefits of being an ambassador

Being an ambassador is a rewarding job with many benefits, including:

  • earning money while you have fun
  • enhancing your public relations, communication and leadership skills
  • gaining valuable work experience
  • flexibility to choose your shifts each week based on a range of opportunities
  • broadening your networks.

In this diverse role, you will be required to represent the University and its course offerings at a range of events including:

  • school, community and major expos (for example, The Age VCE and Careers Expo)
  • Open Day and other VU recruitment events
  • school visits (both on campus and at the schools)
  • information sessions.

In addition you may also be required to make presentations, take part in student panels, attend events and conduct campus tours.

Key requirements

To become an ambassador, you need to be enthusiastic about your course and about VU. You should also want to share your enthusiasm and experience with prospective students.

In addition, a Student Ambassador is required to:

  • hold a current Victorian Driver's Licence
  • have the right to work in Australia
  • be flexible with the hours worked (ambassador shifts will vary in duration and time of the day). There will be a range of shifts available during business hours, after hours and on weekends
  • work at Open Day.

As an employee of the University you will be required to uphold the VU Values and adhere to the VU code of conduct (available upon request).

Student Leadership Model

The Student Ambassador program falls within the Student Leadership Model (SLM) which aims to develop leadership abilities amongst current students.

The SLM program also provides many non-financial benefits for Student Ambassadors such as free professional development, opportunity to attend workshops and seminars and the opportunity to gain qualification through recognition of prior learning (RPL).
