Timothy D. “Tim” Cook (born November 1, 1960) is the CEO of Apple. Cook joined Apple in March 1998 as SVP of Worldwide Operations and also served as EVP of Worldwide Sales and Operations and was COO until he was named the CEO of Apple on August 24, 2011, succeeding Steve Jobs, who died on October 5, 2011, from pancreatic cancer. Cook had previously served as acting CEO of Apple after Jobs began a medical leave in January 2011.
In early 2012, he was awarded compensation of 1 million shares, vesting in 2021, by Apple's Board of Directors. As of April 2012, these shares are valued at US $600 million, making him the world's highest paid CEO.
Cook spent six months at Compaq as VP for Corporate Materials before he was hired by Steve Jobs to join Apple in 1998. He initially served as Senior Vice President for Worldwide Operations. Prior to that, Cook served as the chief operating officer (COO) of the computer reseller division of Intelligent Electronics and spent 12 years in IBM's personal computer business as the director of North American Fulfillment.
Stepping in as successor to one of the most successful CEOs in history is no easy ‘job’, but with a range of successful product launches under his belt, including the latest iWatch, Tim Cook has certainly proven himself up for the challenge in the post-Jobs era.
A couple of days ago, Cook sat down with CCTV in an exclusive interview, where he revealed details about the relationship between himself and Steve Jobs, including the moment he tried to offer his ailing friend a portion of his liver.
The surprising part of Cook’s four-day journey to China is that he didn’t come to sell electronic products, but to plant trees. In his first post to h

In his first post to his newly made microblog Weibo account, Cook announced optimism for innovative environmental programs, such as how to manage sustainable forests and expand efforts in renewable energy.
During the interview, he told CCTV his company plans to build a 40 megawatt electric solar facility in China’s Sichuan Province that will be used to power all of their stores, headquarters and offices.
In the first quarter of 2015, more iPhones were sold in China than in the U.S., grabbing the top spot with nearly 15 percent of the market. The company’s focus on China continues to grow as the firm captures more and more of the world’s largest smartphone market. Cook said that China is very important for Apple in every facet, from sales to supply.

Back on campus for his 25-year reunion, Cook took part in an hour-long dialogue with Fuqua Dean Bill Boulding and the students in a jam-packed Geneen Auditorium buzzing with excitement to hear from the leader of the world's most profitable company.
The Apple CEO has embarked on a career far different than he had envisioned after graduating from Fuqua's Evening Executive MBA program in 1988. "For me the journey was not predictable at all. You have to find your own north star and stay with your north star."
As 450 Daytime MBA students prepared to graduate, Cook advised the students to heed Abraham Lincoln's words of wisdom: "I will prepare and someday my chance will come."
Cook shared the three keys to his leadership at Apple: people, strategy, and execution. "If you get those three right the world is a great place."
Students were able to get a unique glimpse into Cook's motivation, inspiration and leadership role models. Raised in the south and a witness to racial injustice, Cook described his admiration for Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Junior's bravery in risking their lives to fight for what they believed in. He has just three photos in his office: two of Kennedy and one of King.
Cook was asked when to follow strict principles of business theory and when to break the rules. His response stressed the importance of risks and learning from failure. "You should rarely follow the rules. What Fuqua teaches you so well is how to learn and how to collaborate. Write your own rules."
This message resonated with first-year MBA student Shelby Hall. "I know this follows Steve Jobs' belief that Apple creates products which consumers didn't ever know existed," she said. "It was interesting to hear Tim Cook's perspective on how we should balance writing our own rules while applying the foundations of business taught here at Fuqua."
Cook also spoke about some of his recollections from Fuqua. "The people made it an incredible experience. It was great for me to see how bright people approached solutions in different ways."
First-year MBA student Juan Danzilo says Cook's willingness to share his experiences shows a deep commitment to Fuqua. "Tim Cook's presence reflects Fuqua's sense of community. His humility and eloquence is admirable. It certainly was a unique opportunity for MBA students to hear from such an inspirational leader."
Apple CEO Tim Cook discusses the 25 year plan he developed while a student at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and why you should veer away from such plans. Cook spoke as part of his class reunion at the school.(www.fuqua.duke.edu)

Silicon Valley tech giants and Kickstarter backers are flocking to a water-conserving shower head as a solution for the California drought.

Water-saving Nebia shower attracts $1.8 million in Kickstarter funding
Nebia Shower - Kickstarter
Silicon Valley tech giants and Kickstarter backers are flocking to a water-conserving shower head as a solution for the California drought.
A shower system produced by the startup Nebia raised more than $1.3 million in two days on Kickstarter after raising initial funds from such backers as Apple AAPL, +0.70% Chief Executive Tim Cook and Google GOOG, +0.10% Chairman Eric Schmidt’s family foundation. The company says the shower uses 70% less water than a typical shower head.
The shower head atomizes water to create millions of water droplets and a surface area 10 times greater than that of a normal shower. A Nebia shower head is said to use 0.75 gallon a minute, which compares with an industry standard of 2.5 gallons a minute, according to the company, also called Nebia.
Despite the Silicon Valley investments, Philip Winter, chief executive and co-founder of Nebia, said the company wanted to turn to Kickstarter to gauge interest and further develop the product. “It gives you a sense for demand,” Winter said.
The company’s original Kickstarter goal was $100,000.
The product is currently in beta testing, and Nebia has installed it in Equinox Gyms and on the Google and Apple and Stanford University campuses.

Nebia has developed a unique shower head that breaks water droplets into smaller pieces, which offers users a mist-like spray. The result, the company says, is an up to 70 percent decrease in the amount of water used during the average shower.
Nebia invited prominent would-be investors to try it out for themselves, literally. Apple CEO Tim Cook and Google chairman Eric Schmidt are among those who have showered and signed on.
The company hopes to raise enough money through a Kickstarter campaign to ship its first $400 a pop showerheads by the spring of 2016.
IoT Alliance
This week, Online Trust Alliance, or OTA, released its Internet of Things Trust Framework, the first global effort to address IoT risks comprehensively.
With members that include ADT, Microsoft and nearly 100 other experts, the non-profit OTA’s framework presents guidelines for IoT manufacturers, developers and retailers to follow when designing, creating, adapting and marketing connected devices in two key categories: home automation and consumer health and fitness wearables.
This task force concluded that the safety and reliability of any IoT device, app or service depends equally on security and privacy, as well as a third, often overlooked component: sustainability.
Without addressing sustainability, devices will become more prone to hacking over time allowing hackers to remotely control these devices. This concern, first demonstrated with baby monitors and fitness wearables, will likely be a problem again.
SO, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
OTA is also developing testing tools and methodologies to formalize the IoT Trust Framework with scoring criteria — leading to a voluntary Code of Conduct and a forthcoming certification program.
Do you think OTA is taking the right approach to IoT products by creating the standard? Or do you think this could stifle innovation, acting more as a regulation rather than a safeguard?

Tim Cook Invests In Nebia, A Water Saving Shower Head Startup
Tim Cook is completely drenched by the idea of an eco-friendly, water-saving, self-installing shower. Apple’s CEO is one of the first investors in a six-person shower start-up called Nebia.
Based in San Francisco, the company was started on the premise of creating great products that fundamentally change the way people think about their relationship to water in their home.
Nebia is a fully self-installed shower system with an adjustable bracket and a portable wand that showers you with water like you’ve never experienced before. It is designed to atomize water into millions of tiny droplets with 10 times more surface area than your regular shower. The 27-inch adjustable mounted sliding bracket, 45° tilt showerhead and removable mounted hand-wand work together to create a completely customizable shower experience.
With Nebia, more water comes into contact with the body, while using less water than a typical household showerhead. To be precise, Nebia uses 70% less water than a typical household showerhead. The makers also claim that it can also get all the shampoo out of the hair in equal time while saving the same amount of water.
Apart from Timothy D. Cook who made a personal investment, Nebia has also received funding from Michael Birch, a founder of the members-only club the Battery, Y Combinator, the start-up incubator, and from the Schmidt Family Foundation, which was co-founded by Eric Schmidt, chairman of Google.

Apple CEO Tim Cook discusses the 25 year plan he developed while a student at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and why you should veer away from such plans. Cook spoke as part of his class reunion at the school.(www.fuqua.duke.edu)

APPLE CEO AND FUQUA ALUM TIM COOK TALKS LEADERSHIP AT DUKE
Tim Cook spoke to students and alums when he returned for his 25th reunion
"Explore everything. Push the corners of your mind. Just get on this kind of continual learning roller coaster and see what happens."
This was among the advice Apple CEO Tim Cook shared with students at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business on April 26th.

Timothy Donald "Tim" Cook (born November 1, 1960) is an American business executive, and is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Apple Inc. Cook joined Apple in March 1998 as Senior Vice President (SVP) of Worldwide Operations—he also served as Executive Vice President (EVP) of Worldwide Sales and Operations—and was Chief Operating Officer (COO) until he was named the CEO of Apple on August 24, 2011, when he succeeded Steve Jobs. (Cook had previously served as acting CEO of Apple after Jobs began medical leave in January 2011.) In early 2012, he was awarded compensation of one million shares, vesting in 2016 and 2021, by Apple's Board of Directors.
Cook also serves on the board of directors of Nike, Inc. and the National Football Foundation. In 2014, Cook became the first CEO of a Fortune 500 company to publicly identify as gay.

"In a Thursday morning interview with CNBC, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) commented on Apple CEO Tim Cook’s decision to come out as gay by calling Cook’s orientation a “personal choice,” but went on to say, “I’ll tell you I love my iPhone.”
The Hill blog reported Thursday that Cruz was opining that same-sex marriage is a matter best left up to individual states to decide, although he was careful to stipulate that he believes that marriage should only be between “one man and one woman.”
Cruz wants to amend the U.S. Constitution to make it impossible for the Supreme Court to overturn state laws denying same-sex couples the right to marry.
When asked about his thoughts on Apple CEO Tim Cook’s decision to be open about his orientation, Cruz said, “Those are his personal choices, I’ll tell you I love my iPhone.”"* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur & John Iadarola break it down.
