Zack Snyder says DC heroes are more epic, not like 'flavor of the week Ant-Man'

As Zack Snyder continues to fine-tune next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, while also prepping the first of two Justice League films, the director was refreshingly forthcoming about his upcoming blockbusters while promoting a Super Bowl filmmaking contest.

Speaking to The Daily Beast, Snyder addressed Steven Spielberg’s comments that the superhero genre ultimately will go the way of the Western.

“I feel like he’s right. But I feel like Batman and Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’re Batman and Superman,” Snyder said. “They’re not just, like, the flavor of the week Ant-Man — not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?”

Snyder takes the heroes he’s depicting seriously, holding the two titular iconic characters in his latest film in high esteem. And he, in part, has Christopher Nolan and his Dark Knight trilogy to thank.

“I look at it as more being mythological than, say, bubblegum,” he said. “And I think that that’s appropriate for Batman and Superman because they’re the most mythological of our superheroes.”

For more from Snyder, including how he views the dichotomy of Batman and Superman in the film, as well as just exactly how much of a balance between the Caped Crusader and the Last Son of Krypton that the film is striving to have, check out the full interview on The Daily Beast
