Norman Jeffrey "Jeff" Healey (March 25, 1966 – March 2, 2008) was a blind Canadian jazz and blues-rock vocalist and guitarist who attained musical and personal popularity, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s. He hit Number 5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart with "Angel Eyes" and reached the Top 10 in Canada with the songs "I Think I Love You Too Much" and "How Long Can a Man Be Strong."
Born in Toronto, Ontario, Healey was raised in the city's west end. He was adopted as an infant; his adoptive father was a firefighter. When he was almost one year old, Healey lost his sight to retinoblastoma, a rare cancer of the eyes. His eyes had to be surgically removed, and he was given ocular prostheses.
Healey began playing guitar when he was three, developing his unique style of playing the instrument flat on his lap. When he was 15, Jeff Healey formed the band Blue Direction, a four-piece which primarily played bar-band cover tunes and featured bassist Jeremy Littler, drummer Graydon Chapman, and a schoolmate, Rob Quail on second guitar. This band played various local clubs in Toronto, including the Colonial Tavern.

Awesome live performance from Jeff Healey. RIP Jeff, you're already missed.
Playing his Fender Stratocaster guitar flat on his lap, Jeff Healey has developed an instantly recognizable guitar sound and image. He and his band have played the Montreux Festival on two occasions and this DVD focuses on the later performance from 1999 with four bonus tracks from the 1997 show.

"Angel Eyes" is a song written by John Hiatt and Fred Koller, and produced by Greg Ladanyi for The Jeff Healey Band's first album See the Light (1988). It was first released as the album's second single in June 1989 (see 1989 in music) and peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 24 on Billboard 's Mainstream Rock Tracks. It was later covered by Australian Idol series one contestant Paulini and became her first No. 1 single in Australia. Hiatt's own version of the song finally appeared on his 1994 live album Hiatt Comes Alive at Budokan?. A studio version of the song was included on the 1998 album The Best of John Hiatt.

I was at Clinton's Tavern one night (in Toronto) ready to go home when this blind kid got on stage and put the guitar on his lap and lit up the room. He came back to his table, next to mine, and I complimented him and he astounded me asking are you Joe Bodolai?. He knew my VOICE from CBC radio, where I had done comedy. I asked him to come and be on my new TV series, he eventually played a historic duet with Stevie Ray Vaughan that made history. This interview brings tears to my eyes because Dan, Jeff, and Stevie are all gone. I am crying now posting this....
Interview I did with the late Jeff Healey, Fredericton, NB, 1999
A candid phone interview with Jeff Healey. Jeff speaks about his career as a musician, his passion for jazz, and his desire for a simple life. Recorded in December of 2007, sadly, just a few months before he passed away.
A documentary about Jeff Healeys club and his career and the A-List musicians who played with him over the years. Jeff was an unusually talented musician who, despite being blind, never let his physical challenges stand in his way. Interviews include The Jeff Healey House Band, The Jazz Wizards, Ronnie Hawkins (The Hawk) , Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings, Cristie Healey to name a few.

Gypsy jazz, acoustic swing, country, blues -- whatever it is, it makes me smile. Two masterful musicians jamming and hamming it up in the Much Music studio in Toronto.

"This amazing performance is from my Gemini award-winning series IT'S ONLY ROCK 'N ROLL! (which also starred Mike Myers) on CBC in Canada. These late guitar virtuosos are missed, but this performance lives forever. This is one of the greatest moments of my career."
The Canadian music scene has its share of champions, and Edmonton's Holger Petersen ranks highly on that list. He is a co-founder of the Edmonton Folk Festival (1980), a veteran radio host (CKUA Natch'l Blues since 1969, CBC Saturday Night Blues since 1986), and the co-founder/owner of Stony Plain Records (1975). If anyone had the musical street cred to write a book on Blues Radio and Roots Music, it's Holger Petersen. The book is titled Talking Music and is published by Insomniac Press. The book is essentially a collection of interview transcripts with over twenty well-known artists, recorded over the span of Petersen's career, and broken into four categories: British Blues Revival, Delta and Memphis Blues, Artists Who Helped Build Stony Plain Records, and Bonus Tracks. Well, I lost you at the border,
when you crossed it
Had your number, baby,
but I lost it
I know your love,
was just a flimflam
Well, you can't pull the wool over me,
cause I'm a confidence man
I can talk old ladies,
out of all of their money
I can talk young girls,
into calling me honey
You can talk all you want, baby,
but I got fast hands
I know your mother
Taught you how to bake a pie,
and read a book
Your daddy
Taught you how to tell a lie,
and not get shook
Let me tell you somethin', baby
You better learn,
If you're gonna con the con man,
You're liable to get burned
Now, now, now,
We were stretched out on the floor, baby,
it's all elastic
But you stretched it too tight,
and it snapped like plastic,
and the pieces went flying across the badlands.
Well, you can't pull the wool over me,
'cause I'm a confidence man.
Now, maybe Chicago,
is where you're bound
But love is a cheap perfume,
it hangs around
And you roll the dice,
now let the bet stand
Well, you can't pull the wool over me,
'cause I'm a confidence man
Well, you can't pull the wool over me,
'cause I'm a confidence man.
Well, you can't pull the wool over me,
'cause I'm a confidence man.
