While humans sure seem unique, there is no biological definition of human uniqueness, explains explorer and paleoanthropologist Lee Berger in this clip from the 2015 World Science Festival program “The Planet of the Humans: The Leap to the Top.” And as fossils continue to reveal more and more of the historical and evolutionary record, Berger argues, bit by bit the sacred cows of so-called human uniqueness (such as large brain size and bipedalism) are starting to die.

She was very desperate as well. The Administrative Law Judge did award her benefits and it was very sad and very happy at the same time. I felt very bad for her because her health was deteriorating very badly and there was nothing I could do about it but it did make me feel good that from now on she would be able to have the basics of life, her shelter, her food, her medical care and this is something that she deserved after working so hard her entire life.

Professor Lee Berger is an award-winning researcher, explorer, author, palaeoanthropologist, and speaker. His explorations into human origins on the African continent, Asia, and Micronesia for the past two and a half decades have resulted in many new discoveries, including the most complete early hominin fossils ever discovered that belong to a new species of early human ancestor (Australopithecus sediba). His contributions to exploration sciences have also resulted in advances in the field of applied exploration methods and the application of technology to exploration, excavation, and discovery. Berger is a fellow of the Royal Society of South Africa (FRSSAf) and a fellow of the Academy of Sciences of South Africa (ASSAf). Berger received a B.A. in anthropology from Georgia Southern University, his Ph.D. in paleoanthropology from the University of the Witwatersrand and became a postdoctoral research fellow in the university’s department of anatomy and human biology.

While humans sure seem unique, there is no biological definition of human uniqueness, explains explorer and paleoanthropologist Lee Berger in this clip from the 2015 World Science Festival program “The Planet of the Humans: The Leap to the Top.” And as fossils continue to reveal more and more of the historical and evolutionary record, Berger argues, bit by bit the sacred cows of so-called human uniqueness (such as large brain size and bipedalism) are starting to die.

http://www.BergerandGreen.com. 1-800-999-2626. I've had many rewarding cases throughout my career. There's one that stands out in particular however. This was a case of a woman who was in her fifties, she had been a stock clerk her entire life. She worked full time for over thirty years as a stock clerk. She started having problems with her balance and she actually fell on the workplace and wound up being taken to the hospital. They did a brain scan and they found a lesion, but her doctors at that point were not willing to give her a formal diagnosis of MS, which was to come later. So, she was not able to work, she was fired from her job, she had to go on food stamps, welfare, she had to rely on her family for basic things like, necessities of life, like shampoo and bus fare and her medical co-pays and she was just in a very poor state and very impoverished.

Shorts: The Skull
Today, the story of one little thing that has radically changed what we know about humanity’s humble beginnings and the kinds of creatures that were out to get us way back when.
Wits University Professor Lee Berger and Dr. Chris Stringer from London’s Natural History Museum explain how a child’s skull, found in an ancient cave, eventually helped answer one of our oldest questions: Where do we come from? Then Lee takes us on a journey to answer a somewhat smaller question: how did that child die? Along the way, we visit Dr. Bernhard Zipfel at Wits University in Johannesburg to actually hold the skull itself

For all that Darwin contributed to our understanding of the biological world, he was haunted by one vexing question: How does the incremental process of evolution suddenly produce, say, humans—animals who walk upright, communicate through language, and possess the brainpower to travel to the moon? In this program, some of the world's leading thinkers in anthropology, linguistics, biology, and philosophy tackle this conundrum.
This program opened with an excerpt from the hit show “Robot,” from choreographer/filmmaker Blanca Li.
