Demographics of Libya include population density, ethnicity, education level, health of the populace, economic status, religious affiliations and other aspects of the Libyan population.
No complete population or vital statistics registration exists in Libya. The estimates in this article are from the 2010 Revision of the World Population Prospects which was prepared by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, unless otherwise indicated.
Libya has a small population residing in a large land area. Population density is about 50 persons per km² (130/sq. mi.) in the two northern regions of Tripolitania and Cyrenaica, but falls to less than one person per km² (2.6/sq. mi.) elsewhere. Ninety percent of the people live in less than 10% of the area, primarily along the coast. About 88% of the population is urban, mostly concentrated in the four largest cities, Tripoli, Benghazi, Misrata and Bayda. Thirty percent of the population is estimated to be under the age of 15, but this proportion has decreased considerably during the past decades.

The State Department Can't Figure Out Why Libya's In Chaos
The State Department Blog actually wrote this. I'm not kidding.
Four years ago, Libyans joined together to seize the moment to overthrow a dictator. It was a moment of pride for Libyans and for those outside the country who supported them in seeking freedom from Qaddafi and Qaddafism.
Unfortunately, since then, the country has largely been unable to take advantage of the opportunity to rebuild and has instead deteriorated into civil conflict, economic crisis and terrorist violence.

The Libyan people reside in Libya, a country located on the Mediterranean coast of North Africa, to the west of and adjacent to Egypt. Ethnically, the Libyan population is primarily Arab or a mixture of Arab-Berber ethnicities. There is also a small number of Berbers, who retain their own culture. According to DNA studies, 90% of the Arab Libyan population descended from the Arab-Berber inter-ethnic mixture and the remaining 10% are Phoenicians, black Africans (especially in the south of the country) and other North African, Asian and European peoples. The 2012 worldwide Libyan population is estimated at 7 million and the ethnic Arab Libyan p

UNSC Stakeout on Libya, Press Elements on Extremisms, ICP on Dabbashi, Qs on South Sudan
On Libya, ICP Asks UNSC Prez of Dabbashi's Critique, Failures Forgotten
By Matthew Russell Lee
UNITED NATIONS, August 26, more here -- After the UN's envoy to Libya Bernardino Leon briefed the UN Security Council about his political agreement still without the Tripoli-based General National Congress, and Libya's Ibrahim Dabbashi chided Council members about Al Qaeda, the Security Council agreed on Elements to the Press read out by President for August Joy Ogwu, below. Periscope video here.
When Ogwu finished reading out the Press Elements, she was asked a series of questions... about South Sudan. The failures on Libya were forgotten, or no longer news at least at the UN. Inner City Press asked Ogwu if in consultations the Council members had discussed Dabbashi's critique, that Al Qaeda is more of a problem than ISIS or Daesh. We do not discriminate between terrorist groups, Ogwu said. There was less of an answer on South Sudan (Inner City Press' South Sudan coverage is online here.)
Leon among other things said that "there can be no doubt that the danger posed by Daesh to Libya and the Libyan people is real, imminent and palpable. Libyan security and military actors, as well as political stakeholders on either side of the divide, are fully cognizant of the danger posed by Daesh-affiliated militants. However, they must recognize that no strategy aim at containing, if not eliminating, the Daesh threat will be viable unless it is part of a concerted, unified and coordinated effort that brings all Libyans together under a single banner whose allegiance is to the Libyan State, and to a Government that is inclusive and representative of all Libyans.
“Although the General National Congress in Tripoli did not initial the main text of the Libyan Political Agreement along with other dialogue participants on July 11, I am confident that their concerns can be addressed in ongoing discussions on the annexes of the Agreement, including those pertaining to the formation of the Government of National Accord.
“I am increasingly confident that the process is finally drawing to its final stages. Time is running out. the onus is on Libya's leaders on all sides, and at all levels, to make that final push towards peace. Equally important, the international community must also move quickly to present a clearly articulated strategy in support of the Libyan State and the efforts by the Government of National Accord to contain and eliminate the threat that groups like Daesh are posing not only to the stability of Libya, but equally to regional and international security."
[The UN Spokesperson's office did not until 1 pm have a copy of Leon's 10 am speech - and even then, still "check against delivery," as noted and questioned by the Free UN Coalition for Access, FUNCA.]
From the Security Council's August 26 Elements to the Press, as fast transcribed by InnerCityPro:
“Security Council members noted the progress in the political process as well as the local ceasefire initiatives in some parts of Libya. They however expressed their concern about deterioration in the political, security and humanitarian situation. Council members underscored that only an inclusive and representative government can resolve the political and security challenges inside the country.
“In particular Council members expressed concern about expansion of extremism by ISIL and other terrorist groups. They expressed support for the ongoing peace process that aims to establish a government of national unity. In this regard they welcomed the initialing of the Agreement of 11 of July, 2015 as a critical step toward peace and stability in the country. They urged those parties that are yet to sign to do so without delay.
“Council members urged the international community to continue to support the political process in Libya in order to achieve a lasting peace. In the connection, they highlighted the importance of close cooperation between the African Union, the UN, the EU, the Arab League and other international organizations."
The reference to the African Union, given the Security Council having rebuffed the AU back in 2011, is particularly noteworthy.
Back on July 15, Inner City Press asked Leon what plan he may have to get the GNC to sign, and about long-time Libyan ambassador Ibrahim Dabbashi's criticism in the Security Council of its Sanctions Committee. Video here.
On the latter, Leon said that that first step is to form a unity government, THEN to listen to what it asks for. On the GNC, Leon seems to say they agree in principle, only differing on timing or sequencing.

Libyan Prime Minister sensationally quits in the middle of a TV talk show while facing questions from angry viewers... only to claim later that he didn't really mean it
Al-Thinni declared on air that he had 'officially resigned' as Prime Minister
He was furious at being asked about Libya's lack of security and services
But his spokesman later claimed that Al-Thinni had been misunderstood
It was simply an offer to resign if Libyans demanded it, Hatem al-Arabi said
Libya's internationally recognised Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thinni has sensationally resigned in the middle of a television talk show after being confronted with questions from angry viewers.
Al-Thinni's resignation came after he was asked about Libya's lack of security and government services, as well as facing criticism over his poor handling of aid for displaced people.
But in a move typical for a country in chaos where accurate information is hard to get as officials often contradict each other, government spokesman Hatem al-Arabi later claimed that al-Thinni would stay on, adding that the premier had only meant he would quit if the people demanded it.
Al-Thinni has been based in eastern Libya since his government fled the capital Tripoli a year ago amid a partial coup by an armed group that set up a rival administration - part of chaos four years since the dramatic ousting of former dictator Muammar Gaddafi.

The 2012 worldwide Libyan population is estimated at 7 million and the ethnic Arab Libyan population from that estimate is around 6.4 million after the Libyan Civil War.

Crowds were out in force in Libya's capital Tripoli on Sunday to mark the second anniversary of 17 February revolution which ousted the former president Moammar Gadhafi in 2011.
The mood was buoyant, with many sounding their car horns as they drove, many flying the Libyan flag.
The red, green and black colours of the flag of the new Libyan government were everywhere, from banners to balloons and clothing.
"Best wishes to all and all the best to come," said one woman in Tripoli, Ehfedha Mohamed.
"But we must be united together and love each other."
The new Libyan central government has little authority beyond the capital, Tripoli, and the country is fractured by militias, tribes and regional loyalties.
But for today at least, Libyans are focused on celebrating the revolution that pushed Moammar Gadhafi from power.
"We are with the state, our revolution is blessed," said Najya Al Lafi.
"And with God's will it's going forward, with God's will."

LIBYANS ARE DEFYING THE TURMOIL IN THEIR COUNTRY BY HEADING TO THE POLLS TO VOTE IN LIBYA'S PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS.
THE VOTE IS THE THIRD NATIONWIDE BALLOT SINCE THE OUSTING OF LONGTIME DICTATOR MOAMMAR GADHAFI.
AROUND 1.5 MILLION REGISTERED VOTERS WERE ELIGIBLE TO CAST THEIR BALLOTS AT THE MORE THAN 4-THOUSAND POLLING CENTERS OPEN ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
BUT TURNOUT WAS THIN AT THE POLLS EVEN WITH ONLY A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF VOTERS CASTING BALLOTS FOR THE 200-MEMBER PARLIAMENT.
ONE VOTER SAYS WE ARE ALWAYS OPTIMISTIC FOR THE GOOD AND GOD WILLING IT WILL BE A BETTER LIBYA. EVEN IF THERE ARE A HUNDRED ELECTIONS WE WILL
CONTINUE UNTIL WE BUILD A COUNTRY.
THIS YEAR'S VOTE IS A KEY STEP IN TRANSITION FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF LIBYA, WHO LAST YEAR ELECTED A PANEL TO DRAFT THE COUNTRY'S NEWEST CONSTITUTION.

As Libya descends further into civil war and lawlessness, migrants from Africa and the Middle East continue to journey to the country’s coast in search of smugglers to take them across the Mediterranean Sea and into Europe.
Search and rescue operations by Libya’s coast guard are restricted due to diminishing resources, and have to contend with dangerous gangs of armed traffickers.
Those rescued at sea by the coast guard are brought to detention centers, where they face deplorable conditions and are forced to remain for long periods of time. In some instances, migrants are detained by militias in unofficial prisons outside of government cont

In some instances, migrants are detained by militias in unofficial prisons outside of government control.
VICE News gains access to chilling footage from the Libyan coast guard and travels to detention centers in Libya, where we hear migrants speak of torture and serious human rights violations.

As the NTC besieges Sirte it appears to be the end for the pro-Gaddafi forces. Through the eyes of one fighter we look back at the push on Tripoli and see the hope for a new Libya that drives them on.
Three exiled Libyans, Muaz, Bassa and Tariq, are on their way home to Tripoli for the big push. A rebel flag flying out of their car. They look more like football fans than freedom fighters. "I just wanted to join the rebels and free my country", Muaz says. The battle is short but violent, the streets ringing with gunfire."I was willing to sacrifice everything for our new Libya", says Muaz in the aftermath. A touching insight into life inside Libya's chaos.

For African migrants Libya used to be a Mecca: a place to find work or get access to Europe. But now the workers who come here are trapped in the political, economic and social chaos engulfing the country.
"It will get worse because of the indifference and carelessness of the Libyan authorities, but also the lack of coordination with Europe", militia leader and immigration officer Abdul Raza tells us. He describes how no efforts are made on the Libyan side to stop the 15,000 migrants a year who attempt the crossing to Europe, which in 2013 resulted in 3,000 deaths. Tripoli has always been a centre for migrants and talk of reconstruction has brought a new wave. But these rumours are in stark contrast to the complete mayhem engulfing the country. "We have big problems. This morning we haven't eaten. Sometimes they hit us. When we are noisy they beat us", a young migrant being kept in Libya's notorious Abu Salim prison tells us. He has been brought here along with hundreds of others and will be kept here for an indefinite amount of time waiting to be deported. "It is for them the most important thing to go to Europe, Lampedusa. They would rather die than stay here in Libya", says a Roman Catholic Nun attempting to offer aid to the increasingly desperate immigrants swelling Libya's cities.

The ruling by the Supreme Court on Thursday was immediately rejected by the internationally recognised parliament that has moved to the city of Tobruk. The decision came a day after gunmen stormed Libya's biggest oilfield and shut down production at the facility in the country's remote south. Until the court's ruling, Libya has dad two rival government struggling for power. The other government is now based in Tripoli and is controlled by fighters calling themselves Operation Dawn, who seized the capital in August. The ruling only threatens to divide the country even further. And adding to the uncertainty are regional powers that back opposing sides, fuelling the fighting with their military support. Three years after the Libyan revolution and the subsequent downfall of its dictator Muammar Qaddafi, the country has descended further into chaos and insecurity. Rebel militias, radical Islamists and former Qaddafi commander Khalifa Haftar are among the different groups vying for power and oil wealth, creating a vacuum in which violence and militancy reign supreme.
VICE News filmmaker Medyan Dairieh was in Libya in 2011 to witness the revolution. This year, he returned to follow members of the 17th February battalion, a rebel group fighting against Haftar’s forces. Dairieh witnessed first-hand how life after the Libyan revolution has devolved into lawlessness and Islamic State-linked extremism.

Gaddafi The Truth About Libya- Documentary
Original here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HwfPYY2lRM
Insight into the events that led up to NATO intervention in Libya, On 17 May 2011 the International Criminal Court issued a request for an arrest warrant against Gaddafi for crimes against humanity. Some believe it is about protecting civilians, others say it is about oil, but some are convinced intervention in Libya is all about Gaddafi's plan to introduce the gold dinar, a single African currency made from gold, a true sharing of the wealth.
"It's one of these things that you have to plan almost in secret, because as soon as you say you're going to change over from the dollar to something else, you're going to be targeted," says Ministry of Peace founder Dr James Thring. "There were two conferences on this, in 1986 and 2000, organized by Gaddafi. Everybody was interested, most countries in Africa were keen."

The Arab League pledges military support to help the Libyan government fight ISIL Takfiri militants in the North African country.
A communiqué issued after an Arab League meeting in Cairo has called for a strategy to fight ISIL terrorists in Libya, without mentioning any details. The pledge was made after Libya's internationally-recognized government on Saturday asked fellow Arab states to conduct air strikes against the Takfiri militants in the central city of Sirte. Recently, there have been warnings of a massacre in the coastal city that’s so far left up to 200 people dead. The government has also renewed calls for the lifting of an arms embargo on Libya. Sirte fell into ISIL's hands in June. The terrorist group has been expanding the territory it holds ever since.

The truth may seem very disturbing and revolting.
But, please, do not let yourself be overwhelmed by negativity.
Let the perpetrators keep their misery for themselves.
Don't let yourself be fooled by the mainstream media.
They will only show you what they want you to see.
Make your own research.
Make your own opinion.

Tim Whewell is one of the only western journalists to recently gain access to Tobruk, a once sleepy town now caught between terror and denial. He meets politicians and ordinary Libyans who fear that unless internationally-recognised authorities can regain control, Libya will become a stronghold for ISIS forces escaping the Western-led bombing campaign against them in Iraq.

We have all seen in the news over the past year the terrible conflict in Libya, but we are not all aware of the true story.
We have heard a very one sided argument presented to us from our media.
We have heard many lies, which appear to be covering the truth from us so we cannot make a clear, fair judgment for ourselfs.
This film has been created to show the people of the world another side of the story. The side from the Libyan people them selves.
We have been led to believe the majority of Libyans wanted an over- throw of their govnment, but this is far from the truth.
Please watch and leave comment, I believe the people should discuss this matter together with open eyes. All comments are welcome (Not SPAM)

"Bahr Belá Má", "Waterless Sea", as the Sahara is called by the Bedouins. But deep beneath the dune fields and stone deserts expands an immeasurable reservoir of water resources. Using enormous technical resources, the Libyans have begun to extract fossil reserves of groundwater. Following oil, water is now arousing a new wave of euphoria. In the present desert climate, reserves are only being partally replaced and what has collected over a period of millions of years may be used up in only a few decades.
