In Effort to Stifle Dissent, St. Louis County Charges At Least 100 Protesters One Year Later

FERGUSON, MO.—In a surprise move, just before the statute of limitations was about to expire, St. Louis County Counselor Peter Krane filed charges last week against at least 100 people who were arrested a year ago peacefully protesting the murder of Michael Brown outside of the Ferguson Police Department.

NLG Mourns Passing of Civil Rights Pioneer, Julian Bond

The National Lawyers Guild (NLG) is deeply saddened by the passing of civil rights trailblazer, Julian Bond, who died Saturday night at the age of 75. A lifelong activist and icon of the American Civil Rights Movement, Bond co-founded the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) while attending Morehouse College in the 1960s.

NLG Provides Critical Support for Demonstrators in Ferguson, Condemns State of Emergency

Police violently cracked down on activists yesterday after imposing a State of Emergency in St. Louis County in an effort to stifle protest commemorating the murder of Michael Brown one year ago. More than 150 people were arrested in multiple demonstrations across the St. Louis area, including at least nine Legal Observers with the National Lawyers Guild (NLG).
