The nine-day festival of Navratri in Hindu religion is dedicated to the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga. Navratri 2015 dates are from October 13 to October 22, 2015. Chaitra Navratri 2016 is from April 8 to April 15 as per Hindu calendar. The most important Navratri in a year is the Sharadiya Navratra which begins on the first day of the bright half of Ashvin or Ashwayuja (September-October) as per traditional Hindu calendar. Apart from the Navratri in September – October, there are three other Navratris in a year. The most important among the three is the Chaitra Navratri or the Navaratri in March-April. This is also known as Vasant Navratri or Ram Navaratri. The other two Navratris are Magh Navratri (January – February) and Ashad Navratri (June – July). These two Navratris are also known as Gupt Navratri and is mainly observed only in certain regions of North India. Thus there are four important Navratris in a year in a traditional Hindu lunar calendar. Navratri Day 1 – October 13, 2015 – Ghatsthapana - Navratri Begins Navratri Day 2 – October 14, 2015 – Chandra Darshan (Tithi is repeated) Navratri Day 2 – October 15, 2015 – Sindoor Tritiya Navratri Day 3 – October 16, 2015 – Varad Vinayak Chaturthi Navratri Day 4 – October 17, 2015 – Upang Lalita Vrat - Lalitha Panchami Navratri Day 5 – October 18, 2015 – Saraswati Awahan Navratri Day 6 – October 19, 2015 – Saraswathi Puja (western parts of India) Navratri Day 7 – October 20, 2015 - Saraswathi Balidan - Maha Lakshmi Puja (western parts of India) Navratri Day 8 – October 21, 2015 – Mahashtami - Annapoorna Parikrama – Saraswati Visarjan Navratri Day 9 and 10 – October 22, 2015 - Mahanavami and Dasami. The tenth day is celebrated as Dasara or Vijaya Dashami. Vidyarambham in Kerala is on October 23, 2015 Note - Navratri day 1 tithi is repeated on Oct 13 and 14 in western parts of India Note - Navratri day 2 tithi is repeated on Oct 14 and 15 in north, east and south India Note - in all regions Mahanavai fasting is held on October 21. Navratri day 9 and 10 are marked on same date in all calendars. South India In South India, Goddess Durga is worshipped during the first three days. Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped during the next three days Goddess Saraswathi is worshipped during the last three days.
