Munger is the Administrative headquarters of Munger district and Munger Division. Historically,Munger is known for ancient 'Seat of rule' and the Bihar School of Yoga. Munger is the fourth largest city of Bihar and second largest city of Eastern Bihar. It is comprised of Munger and Jamalpur situated on southern bank of the river Ganges. Kastaharni Ghat is one of various bathing ghats on the Ganges and religiously the most significant. This is one of the few places where the Ganges meanders and flows in the northern direction (Uttarvahini Ganges). Because of this it is considered very auspicious by Hindu believers. Chandika Sthan is one of the sixty-four shakti peeth spread across India and is situated on the north-east corner of Munger.
