Vacancy: 2 x Non-executive Board Members for AoC Create

The opportunity

We have two opportunities, one for an experienced finance specialist and another for an experienced professional services specialist to join our AoC Create Board of Management as non-executive Board Members. This is an exciting time to join AoC Create – we are a small and growing business with an ambitious business strategy and growing suite of products and services.

About AoC Create and the Board of Management

The Association of Colleges (AoC) exists to represent and promote the interests of Colleges and provide members with professional support services. As such, we aim to be the authoritative voice of Colleges – based on credible analysis, research, advocacy and consultation with Colleges – and the first choice destination for guidance and advice for members. AoC Create, as AoC’s commercial subsidiary company, has 20 years’ experience of supporting colleges. It has four distinct, first-class services: executive recruitment, interim management, training and consultancy and events. AoC Create uses its extensive network to recruit many senior staff annually for colleges, including principals, leaders and interim managers. Working alongside AoC's policy experts, AoC Create knows about the issues and legislative changes affecting the sector before its competitors do.

AoC Create is governed by a Board of Management, comprising of elected Board Members, including Principals and Chairs of Governors of AoC member colleges. The AoC Create Board is responsible for the overall governance and strategic direction of AoC Create. The Board seeks to achieve a diverse range of skills and expertise to support its work. To this end, AoC Create is looking to appoint two co-opted, non-executive Board Members with specialist knowledge and skills at a senior level in either Finance or Professional Services.

About the roles

The non-executive Board Members will contribute to the development of the company’s aims, objectives and goals in AoC Create’s pursuit of business growth and success. There are two vacancies, as follows:

Non-executive Board Member: Finance Specialist

Non-executive Board Member: Professional Services Specialist (sales, marketing, product development)

We are looking for articulate, commercially astute individuals who are technically strong in their fields, with high integrity combined with a commitment to good governance and passion for excellence and innovation. Full details of the duties for each role and the person specifications are provided below.

What’s in it for the volunteer?

These voluntary roles offer a unique opportunity to work with a prestigious organisation in the Further Education sector, supporting colleges in their essential work within local communities, providing high-quality technical and professional education and training for young people, adults and employers. Colleges prepare over three million students with valuable skills for the workplace, and valuable employability skills, helping to deliver their career opportunities and strengthen the local, regional and national economy.  As a non-executive Board Member you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced leaders and experts in learning and skills, pass on your expertise by contributing to strategy and business development for a growing young business, and advise a team of enthusiastic, dynamic people who are passionate about providing high quality services.
