5-600 students rallied at Curtin University on 14 May 2013 in the biggest student demonstration in over a decade. It was built by socialists who run the guild. That is why it was such a success.

Left wins Curtin student elections

Students who ran with Left Action recognised that the Guild is not about offering a student perspective to the university management. The Guild needs to be oriented to defending students’ rights and giving students an avenue to be involved. This message clearly appealed to a significant layer of students. The recent elections are a victory for the left and have laid the basis for a serious campaign against the cuts at Curtin University in 2013.
Left Action helps stop Liberals taking Curtin University Guild

Left Action has helped stop the Liberals winning control of the Curtin University Guild. The ticket won President, Education Vice-President, Women’s Officer, Queer Officer, 4 Guild councillors and 3 delegates to the National Union of Students. Left Action look forward to a year of fighting course cuts, PAYG parking and involving students in social justice campaigns.
