Top Gear under Ofcom investigation after Jeremy Clarkson's 'Pikey's Peak' sign draws complaint

The BBC Trust investigation previously cleared Clarkson of racism for the sign but now Ofcom are investigating Top Gear could be set for more trouble after Ofcom confirmed it was investing the show over a use of the word 'pikey'. A representative of the Traveller Movement complained after a scene in which the show's now ex-host Jeremy Clarkson was seen holding a placard with the words 'Pikey's Peak' while Richard Hammond drove a car up a mountain. It comes after a similar complaint was lodged with the BBC but eventually not upheld. The BBC Trust ruling in March cleared Clarkson of racism and its editorial standards committee (ESC) concluded the word had been used to mean "cheap", rather than as a term of racist or ethnic abuse. Speaking at the time, a spokesman for the Traveller Movement said they were 'horrified' by the "BBC's green-lighting of the use of the word", It is not the first time the controversial motoring show - and its former presenters - have run into trouble. Clarkson had to apologise when unscreened footage emerged of him mumbling the n-word while reciting the children's nursery rhyme "eeny, meeny, miny, moe" to choose between two cars and the show was also censured by Ofcom for breaching broadcasting rules after Clarkson used a "racial" term during the programme's Burma special. Last year ended with the motoring show's crew forced to flee Argentina when it emerged they were using a Porsche with the registration number H982 FKL, which some people suggested could refer to the Falklands conflict of 1982. Since then, Clarkson has left the show when the BBC allowed his contract to run down after an internal investigation found he attacked show producer Oisin Tymon in an unprovoked assault. His co-stars, Hammond and James May, are believed to have also left the show, along with producer Andy Wilman, and are expected to launch a rival show with another broadcaster.

Well,the consultation had a very positive indication of the support the UK CB Radio Men (and Ladies) have given. It has been over thirty years coming, but by the Summer of 2014 it looks as though AM and SSB modes will be added to the current FM one on the European CEPT frequencies. The current (and original) CB 27/81 Frequencies will remain Frequency Modulation only. IMO this is a landmark in UK CB Radio history and I personally have added my input into the pot with the Staff of Ofcom. It has been a joint effort with many UK Radio hobbyists and radio Forums (Transmission 1 and Charlie Tango DX been the main ones). The CBA and James Bryant started the ball rolling well over 30 years ago , we have helped bring this to the conclusion these UK pioneers craved for, all those years ago. Thanks for viewing the video. Simon Cowell has launched an investigation into recent shock news Jules and Matisse used a stunt dog in their final show. The revelation that a lookalike dog was used to walk the parallel ropes in the final sparked around 500 complaints by Tuesday afternoon, with 365 to communications watchdog Ofcom and another 130 to ITV. The music mogul ordered an investigation, having been unaware that there was a third dog in the act, and while his fellow judges David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden have stayed silent over the furore, producers have apologised. ITV boss Peter Fincham has called the presentation of Jules O'Dwyer's dog act a "judgement call" - as complaints poured in about the Britain's Got Talent stunt. And Mr Fincham admitted that Britain's Got Talent should have made it clearer that champion O'Dwyer used a stunt double dog for her winning sketch. He told campaign group the Voice of the Listener and Viewer (VLV) that the way the act was presented was "a judgment call". But he added: "In the semi-final it was made quite clear the other dog played a role in it. "In the audition it was made quite clear this was a dog act with a range of dogs. "In hindsight, in the final it would have been better if that was clear." An Ofcom spokesman said that complaints will be assessed before a decision is taken on whether to investigate. Last night O'Dwyer said that she was "shocked and surprised" by viewers' reactions. The guide dog trainer, who beat Welsh choir Cor Glanaethwy and magician Jamie Raven to the £250,000 prize with a sketch involving a tightrope and stolen sausages, said she did not use Matisse, the dog which viewers believed performed the stunt, because he did not like heights. "I was disappointed when people said I allegedly hid Chase and I was trying to make it like Chase was Matisse. That's not so," she said. "I introduced Chase in the semi-final, and I said Chase is Matisse's best mate. Why put the pressure on the dog when I already have another dog who can perform it on television?" The sketch, which starred O'Dwyer as a policewoman going after "sausage thief" Matisse, also featured another of her pets, three-legged Skippy. O'Dwyer added: "I know my dogs, and I know what they are comfortable with. I'm not hiding anything. Skippy was a secret - I wanted to keep him a secret because that was the emotional factor and we hadn't introduced him before."
