The documentary film Art of Freedom answers the most poignant questions on the phenomenon of Polish expeditions to the Himalayas. Poles have reigned the highest mountaintops of the world for more than 20 years. They not only set down new trails, but new rules of behavior. They set themselves apart with an original style of climbing, endurance, conscientiousness about the overall well-being of the team - and solidarity. How is it possible that in communist Poland in the 70s and 80s, at the height of real socialism, Polish mountaineers were the best in the world? As residents of the country in which earn an average $ 20 a month, they could organize an expensive expedition to the Himalaya? How does the lack of everything in every sphere of life affected their form and morale? What distinguished the eight-thousanders Polish conquerors from their colleagues behind the "Iron Curtain"? The documentary "Art of Freedom" is the answer to the question about the phenomenon of Polish Himalayan mountaineering. Poles ruled in the highest mountains of the world for nearly 20 years. They appointed not only new roads, but also new ways of behavior. They distinguished by its original style climbing, perseverance, a sense of responsibility for themselves and partners solidarity. Jerzy Kukuczka was the first Pole won the Crown of the Himalayas, which is all the eight-thousanders. After it did so well Krzysztof Wielicki. The best Polish Himalayan climber Wanda Rutkiewicz won 8 of those peaks, partly by new routes. The more you have obstacles to overcome in Poland century affected by the economic crisis, the better the results achieved in the Himalayas. All the climbers emphasized that the problems encountered by the country to get passports, equipment and resources needed for the trip even more decisive in their climbing. More motivated from colleagues behind the "Iron Curtain", they won the highest peaks of unknown so far, and so characteristic of Poles twist. "Art of Freedom" is about the most difficult Polish expeditions and most spectacular entrances to the peaks. It also shows the essence of mountaineering overcoming the weaknesses of your own body and test in unimaginably harsh conditions. It is also a story of courage, solidarity and entrepreneurship. Because in the end Himalayan mountaineering is a school of life, the lesson of survival and the art of true freedom. Climbing phenomenon in the 70s and 80s, when socialism reached its peak in Poland. Despite the difficult economic situation in the country, the Polish expeditions in the Himalayas costly, becoming some of the most respected climbers in the world. The way the daily deprivations of Poles have influenced their self-confidence or the difference between the teams from Poland and the other countries are some of the topics addressed in the film.
