Talking Arts: The revival of cinema culture in Uganda
Talking Arts: The revival of cinema culture in Uganda
Talking Arts: The revival of cinema culture in Uganda
Many people would prefer to catch a movie on a screen in their living room, then others on a laptop or a tablet. The means with which to watch movie largely depend on convenience and how a viewer wants to experience the story or action in a movie.
Of late, the business of movie theaters is starting to pick up. This is because of a host of enthusiastic movie lovers who want to experience stories and action on giant screens with an ambiance of powerful sound. Movie theaters giving movie lovers this kind of experience are not a new thing... their rise and fall and then rise.

Madi Cultural and Development Foundation launched in Kampala
The Madi Cultural and Development Foundation has been launched in Kampala to preserve the positive cultural values of the the Madi community in Uganda and the other countries where they are scattered. The foundation, formed back in 2002 will also translate the cultural values into the development of the Madi people both at regional and household levels. They also want to encourage the new generation to embrace their traditional food, which they say has been abandoned by their tribes-mates who live in the urban areas.

Batwa: Uganda and the human story behind gorilla tourism | Guardian Features
The Oscar-nominated documentary Virunga exposed the threat to gorillas in Congo, but in neighbouring Uganda the Batwa – who have shared forests with mountain gorillas for generations – face a struggle for survival.

The creation of national parks has seen tourism boom, though the Batwa have been forcibly evicted from their land. Now, charities are calling for community tourism projects to help the Batwa benefit from the money being made in what used to be their home.
