Socialism/ˈsoʊʃəlɪzəm/ is an economic system characterised by social ownership and/or control of the means of production and cooperative management of the economy, and a political philosophy advocating such a system. "Social ownership" may refer to any one of, or a combination of, the following: cooperative enterprises, common ownership, direct public ownership or autonomous state enterprises. There are many variations of socialism and as such there is no single definition encapsulating all of socialism. They differ in the type of social ownership they advocate, the degree to which they rely on markets versus planning, how management is to be organised within economic enterprises, and the role of the state in constructing socialism.
A socialist economic system would consist of an organisation of production to directly satisfy economic demands and human needs, so that goods and services would be produced directly for use instead of for private profit driven by the accumulation of capital, and accounting would be based on physical quantities, a common physical magnitude, or a direct measure of labour-time. Distribution of output would be based on the principle of individual contribution.

"Not quite half of Americans -- 47 percent-- say they would consider voting for a socialist for president, if the person were well-qualified and nominated by the voter's party, according to a new Gallup survey.
Democrats offer the most support for socialism with 59 percent saying they would vote for a socialist candidate. Independents are split down the middle, and Republicans are the least supportive with just 26 percent saying they'd vote for a socialist.
Americans ages 18 to 29 are most open to the idea of a socialist with nearly 7 in 10 stating they'd vote for one. Older generations are less inclined to do so."

Chris Matthews chatted with DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman-Schultz tonight and things got awkward fast when they dived into talking about Bernie Sanders.
Matthews asked Wasserman-Schultz if, even if he loses, Sanders would have a place at the DNC convention, seeing as how he’s really popular with the base and could fire up a Democratic audience before the election.
She said he should get to speak, but Matthews kept prodding away to see if he would be allowed to speak in primetime instead of “when nobody’s watching.”

Bernie's Big Numbers Get Noticed As Socialism Polls Better Than Ever

Things Get Awkward When Matthews Asks DNC Head About Bernie Sanders, Socialism (VIDEO)
Things Get Awkward When Matthews Asks DNC Head About Bernie Sanders, Socialism (VIDEO)
Wasserman-Schultz talked up his “progressive populist message” that people like, when Matthews asked her point-blank, “What’s the difference between a Democrat and a socialist? I used to think there was a big difference. What do you think it is?”
Wasserman-Schultz ducked the question, but Matthews pressed her and said, “You’re the chairman of the Democratic Party. Tell me what’s the difference between you and a socialist.”
She insisted that the bigger debate is the gulf between the Democrats and the Republicans on the issues.

Dr. Rajagopalan reflected on the historical, ideological, and economic context for constitutional amendments in India from 1950-78. The DSA endorsed Sanders for every one of his subsequent elections and has openly helped to raise funds for him over the years.

Dr. Shruti Rajagopalan joined IDFC Institute for a private roundtable on "Incompatibility of Socialism and the Indian Constitution".
Dr. Rajagopalan reflected on the historical, ideological, and economic context for constitutional amendments in India from 1950-78. She argued that the formal institutions of socialist planning were fundamentally incompatible with the constraints imposed by the Indian Constitution, and explored the consequences.

SOCIALISM DOESN'T WORK - BERNIE SANDERS SUPPORTERS = IDIOT TROLLS
Sanders maintained a close working relationship with the Democratic Socialists of America, or DSA, even helping to raise funds and recruit new members to the socialist
group.
The DSA endorsed Sanders for every one of his subsequent elections and has openly helped to raise funds for him over the years.
The ties between Sanders and the DSA go back to at least 1988
Indeed, the DSA held “Elect Sanders” house parties in Atlanta; Boston; Detroit; Portland, Maine; Boulder, Colorado; Indianapolis; Columbus, Ohio; Ithaca, New York;
Springfield, Massachusetts; Washington, D.C.; and New York City.
“DSAers wanting to hold Sanders house parties should contact me at fllewellyn@dsausa.org,” wrote one senior DSA activist in the socialist group’s July 2006 newsletter.
The Socialist International carries the torch for Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, V.I. Lenin, Leon Trotsky, and Josef Stalin. Pay no attention to the desperate attempts
by socialists to distance themselves from Stalin. For our purposes, it suffices to observe that every single tenet of the Socialist International is the exact opposite
of the principles upon which America was founded, and which define the U.S. Constitution.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To people like Bernie, the economy is a plaything, a living entity that can be made subservient to government. Operating on the same assumption, communist countries
created bureaucratically administered “command economies” and millions of their subjects starved. The Soviet Union, which was supposed to live forever, disintegrated
after just 74 years and all but a few communist countries followed it into the dustbin of history. Nazi Germany’s command economy didn’t save it either; the “Thousand
Year Reich” perished after just 12 years.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Throughout his life, Bernie Sanders has been working for socialism, the transitional stage of society before communism. He calls himself a socialist, specifically a
“democratic socialist.”
While Sanders has made a mountain of campaign promises that are socialistic in nature, the words he uses betray that his end-goal is actually communism.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bernie’s first lie is that he is democratic. He specifically describes himself as a “democratic socialist,” as if the word democratic somehow makes his belief in
socialism more noble. Left-wingers like Sanders play word games, misusing the word democratic deliberately and constantly. If they win, it is a triumph of democracy.
If they lose, democracy has been betrayed, greedy capitalists rigged the election, the system is broken, and so on.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bernie’s preferred method of generating revenue for the government is taxation. Boosting taxes beyond perhaps an optimal level, hurts the economy.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But facts such as the horrendous track record of communist countries are not obstacles to the Left, so Bernie’s affection for a pie-in-the-sky theory popularized by
Karl Marx remains undiminished.
To demonstrate that Sanders is a communist and not merely socialist, it is necessary to reflect on what these words mean. Many have said that a communist is a
socialist in a hurry. That is one way of looking at it but it doesn’t answer the question of what communism actually is.
Communism is a political movement whose adherents believe that markets are fundamentally unjust and that revolutionary violence should be used to overthrow the
existing order and attain a classless society.
Karl Marx thought of socialism as a necessary way station on the road to the supposed utopia of communism. The question of socialism versus communism is a never-
ending debate in academic circles, and it is one that is too involved to get into here. Suffice it to say that socialists and communists all want government or the
collective to be master. They all subscribe to bad, un-American ideas, are all in the same ideological camp, and all tend to believe that the ends justify the means.
In ideological terms, there is no bright line or safe harbor that neatly separates socialism from communism. They overlap and blend into each other.

To demonstrate that Sanders is a communist and not merely socialist, it is necessary to reflect on what these words mean. Many have said that a communist is a

Communism is a political movement whose adherents believe that markets are fundamentally unjust and that revolutionary violence should be used to overthrow the
existing order and attain a classless society.

collective to be master. They all subscribe to bad, un-American ideas, are all in the same ideological camp, and all tend to believe that the ends justify the means.
In ideological terms, there is no bright line or safe harbor that neatly separates socialism from communism. They overlap and blend into each other.
Communism, according to Marx, was a kind of heaven on earth and he was its foremost proselytizer. He argued that human beings could be changed and made to reject their
natural, selfish, family-oriented impulses. When this happened, everything would supposedly change for the better. People would voluntarily work hard for a society
filled with abundance so there would be no need for governments, taxes, armies, police, courts, and jails. In such a society the principle of “from each according to
his ability, to each according to his need” would prevail.
But before this (impossible) idealized condition can be achieved, there has to be socialism. The working class, according to Marx’s theory, disgusted by the supposed
evils of capitalism and the misery they feel it inflicts on them, transforms the capitalist nation in which workers are mercilessly exploited, into a socialist state.
Under socialism, in theory the “means of production”—factories, raw materials, machines, the labor force and the system by which it is organized—are controlled by the
people through a powerful government. The “relations of production,” that is, the relationship between those who invest in and control industries and those who work in
those industries is forever changed. The government steps in on behalf of the people and imposes what some call “economic democracy,” theoretically giving workers
control over their workplaces.
Obviously, someone who works for socialism is a socialist; someone who works for communism is a communist. (Someone who joins a political party that advocates
communism is a Communist with a capital-C. Someone like Bill Ayers who believes in communism but hasn’t joined a party is a small-c communist.)
Bernie has been around communists a long time.
He used to work at the communist-led United Packinghouse Workers Union.
In the 1970s he belonged to the anti-war Liberty Union Party (LUP). Under the LUP banner, he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate and governor of Vermont. His
platform called for all U.S. banks to be nationalized, public ownership of all utilities, and the establishment of a worker-controlled federal government.
Sanders quit the LUP in 1979 and was elected mayor of Burlington, Vermont. During his decade in office he displayed a Soviet flag in his mayoral office and claimed he
did so to honor Yaroslavl, Burlington’s sister city in the U.S.S.R. In addition, he made Puerto Cabezas in Communist Nicaragua another sister city of Burlington.

Many have long praised Scandinavian countries for their high levels of welfare provision and for their economic and social outcomes. It is, indeed, true that they are successful by most reasonable measures.
However, Scandinavia’s success story predated the welfare state. Furthermore, Sweden began to fall behind as the state grew rapidly from the 1960s. Between 1870 and 1936, Sweden enjoyed the highest growth rate in the industrialized world. However, between 1936 and 2008, the growth rate was only 13th out of 28 industrialized nations. Betwee

The climax of the Socialism 2014 Rally on Saturday, 8 November 2014, was a speech from Kshama Sawant, who was elected onto Seattle city council with nearly 100,000 votes as a Socialist Alternative (SA) candidate. She played a key role in achieving a council vote for a $15 an hour minimum wage in Seattle, which will lift 100,000 workers out of poverty, a transfer of $3 billion from the bosses to the low paid. She was given a standing ovation, both before and after her speech. After giving greetings from her party, SA, Kshama said: "Many have written about Seattle as a 'peculiar city', to elect a socialist and achieve the highest minimum wage i

Anarchism Or Socialism?
What are the beliefs of the Anarchists? How are they different from the socialists and communists? In particular: is capitalism the enemy, or is the state machine the enemy?
What do the anarchists think workers should do if they are successful in getting rid of exploitative capitalism? What are the anarchists' criticisms of communism?
What are the basic ideas and beliefs of the communists that make it a useful guide to action, and empower workers to overthrow the old system of exploitation and build a new, peaceful and truly representative society? In what way is socialism more 'scientific' and systematic?

Scandinavian Socialism: Dangers of the Welfare State
MP3 Download: http://www.fdrpodcasts.com/#/3037/scandinavian-socialism-dangers-of-the-welfare-state
Many have long praised Scandinavian countries for their high levels of welfare provision and for their economic and social outcomes.
Between 1975 and the mid-1990s, Sweden dropped from being the 4th richest nation in the world to the 13th richest nation in the world.
Many analyses of Scandinavian countries conflate correlation with causality. It is very clear that many of the desirable features of Scandinavian societies, such as low income inequality, low levels of poverty and high levels of economic growth, predated the development of the welfare state. It is equally clear that high levels of trust also predated the era of high government spending and taxation. All these indicators began to deteriorate after the expansion of the Scandinavian welfare states and the increase in taxes necessary to fund it.
Dr. Nima Sanandaji holds a PhD from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm and is the author of “Scandinavian Unexceptionalism: Culture, Markets and the Failure of Third Way Socialism” which is available for free online via the Institute of Economic Affairs: http://www.iea.org.uk/publications/research/scandinavian-unexceptionalism-culture-markets-and-the-failure-of-third-way-soc

After giving greetings from her party, SA, Kshama said: "Many have written about Seattle as a 'peculiar city', to elect a socialist and achieve the highest minimum wage in the country - double the federal minimum. But it's far more to do with the early awakening of US workers. It is a search for a way of fighting back. There is a strong questioning of capitalism and an openness to socialist ideas".
Kshama explained how SA is taking up a number of issues, including supporting the fight against huge rent rises for people in low income housing, working with unions fighting for decent pay and fighting against discrimination that faces minority groups. Their work has succeeded in changing 'Columbus day' - celebrating a coloniser - to 'Indigenous Peoples' day', celebrating indigenous culture and opposing discrimination.
SA has shown what a difference a socialist representative makes. The council pays $117,000 a year to each of its councillors. Kshama though is taking home only the $40,000 average workers' wage and donates the rest to a solidarity fund that supports workers' struggles.
SA's support has grown; Kshama has a 60% approval rating in her area, higher than any other council member.
The US mid-term elections, rather than indicating a shift to the right, was a verdict on the failure of the Democrats to deliver on any of the hopes invested in the election of Obama. The low turnout showed that. "Two thirds even of those who voted didn't expect it to bring about any change!".
In areas that the Democrats lost, there have still been progressive proposals passed, including an increase in the minimum wage in four states. Consciousness is changing because of the bankruptcy of capitalist policies. "The US working class is not weighed down by the betrayals of social democracy like Labour in Britain." This is why there is so much potential for socialist ideas now.
SA is able to have an effect beyond its size in leading struggles, because of its clear political analysis and confidence in the working class. The fast food workers' strikes, begun in 2012, showed the mood. The $15 now campaign has spread to 20 cities.
"We are now taking the first steps towards a new mass workers' party in the US. Capitalism is undermining itself. All its institutions are seen as rotten by big sections of the population. The US congress is less popular than head lice and cockroaches according to a recent poll!"
The explosive potential of the new generation is shown by the uprising in Ferguson, Missouri after the killing of a young black man by a racist police force.
Climate change is also critical. Kshama spoke alongside Naomi Klein and others at a large gathering in New York marking an environment demonstration of 100,000 people.
Kshama finished with the rallying call: "Let's build the powerful force that we know is necessary - because we have a world to win!"
This was one of the best rallies the Socialist Party's Socialism event has held. It lifted the audience and gave us the confidence to go out and build socialist ideas.

Harpal Brar, chairman of the CPGB-ML gives a historical and contemporary look at anarchism, from its philosophical and organisational origins to the present day anarchists and their 'activity', and compares it to the Socialist views of Marx and Engels.
A must watch for every thinking person, every would be revolutionary, and every worker who wants to build a better world.

Stops along the way include the rise of industrial capitalism, mass production, disgruntled workers, Karl Marx, and the Socialist Beard. The socialist reactions to the ills of capitalism are covered as well, and John discusses some of the ideas of Karl Marx, and how they've been implemented or ignored in various socialist states. Jeremy Corbyn addresses the issue of healthcare saying that the socialist and communist thinkers of the 19th Century had a vision that healthcare should be available to all people, this had lead to the NHS today and is something we should be proud of. He concludes by saying the chamber should vote in favour of equality.

Dr. Shruti Rajagopalan on "Incompatibility of Socialism and the Indian Constitution"

SOCIALISM DOESN'T WORK - BERNIE SANDERS SUPPORTERS = IDIOT TROLLS
Sanders maintained a close working relationship with the Democratic Socialists of America, or DSA, even helping to raise funds and recruit new members to the socialist
group.
The DSA endorsed Sanders for every one of his subsequent elections and has openly helped to raise funds for him over the years.
The ties between Sanders and the DSA go back to at least 1988
Indeed, the DSA held “Elect Sanders” house parties in Atlanta; Boston; Detroit; Portland, Maine; Boulder, Colorado; Indianapolis; Columbus, Ohio; Ithaca, New York;

Scandinavian Socialism: Dangers of the Welfare State
Scandinavian Socialism: Dangers of the Welfare State
MP3 Download: http://www.fdrpodcasts.com/#/3037/scandinavian-socialism-dangers-of-the-welfare-state
Many have long praised Scandinavian countries for their high levels of welfare provision and for their economic and social outcomes.
