During our time backpacking and traveling around Asia we spent more time in Thailand than any other country in SE Asia and for good reason. Unlike most tourists who visit Thailand, we decided to skip most of the beaches located in the southern regions of the country and instead focus most of our time in Northern Thailand. Chiang Mai, our home away from home, became our base for several months and by the time we left we promised ourselves we'd return again in the near future. What makes Chiang Mai such a great base for foreigners? Firstly, it's cheap. You can find high quality serviced apartments for under $500 (some are less than $300) that o

Things to do in Vietnam | Top Attractions Travel Guide
During the past decade I've traveled in Southeast Asia more than any other region in the world. If I were to recommend one country to visit my shortlist would certainly include Vietnam. From Hanoi to Saigon - or vice versa - there are few countries that offer as much diversity. The following top attractions travel guide outlines all of the best things to do while traveling in Vietnam:
1) I've honestly never met anyone who has regretted visiting Ha Long Bay. With stunning karst peaks and adventure sports aplenty it's the kind of place where you can relax on a boat for several days and not want to come back to land anytime soon.
2) When

This video showcases both normal and high speed footage from my train rides in India using Indian railways during my nearly three month backpacking trip all over India. As my preferred method of transportation, I took the train as often as I could while traveling in India; moreover, there were few journeys that I did not take photos or record videos. I found the experience utterly fascinating and wanted to share my experiences with my family, friends and online with a public audience. For the footage, I used my Casio EX-FC100 high speed digital point and shoot camera to capture both slow motion and high definition video. The train rides i

Singapore has often been given the title of a sterile Utopia; however, after traveling around chaotic Southeast Asian hubs like Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Saigon it was a welcome relief to visit a mega city that was clean, orderly, spacious a

Few countries have left more of an impression upon me than Cambodia. I've now visited four times and each and every time I had a completely different experience. I learned what I loved and what I disliked about the country. In particular, I became fond of cities such as Siem Reap and Battambang whereas I found Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville to be less appealing. The shining star attraction I could never get enough of was the Temples of Angkor. Cambodia is a country with a tragic past; however, the future appears to be brighter as it becomes more frequented by tourists every year.
The following is a list of the top things to do while traveling in Cambodia with an emphasis on the top attractions in this travel guide:
1) Angkor Wat! Visiting Cambodia and not going to Angkor Wat is the equivalent of a traveler going to Peru and not checking out Machu Picchu. As the largest religious structure in the world you'll be amazed at it sheer size!
2) One of the more quirky attractions in Cambodia is the Bamboo Train in Battambang. For a small fee you can hop on a bamboo platform and race across rickety old rail tracks. With the wind in your hair you might - once or twice - wonder about the safety of the experience.
3) Khmer cuisine is delightfully delicious and learning how to make it is surprisingly affordable compared to the costs of cooking classes in many neighboring countries. We tried our hand at making Amok, a fish in a coconut curry base, and Lok Lak, tender beef strips in a thick sauce.
4) Trying traditional Cambodian food. We had a big platter of different Khmer delights in the heart of Siem Reap. It's worth it just to dig right in and enjoy!
5) To learn more about the tragic history of Cambodia a visit to Choeung Ek, also known as the Killing Fields, is a must. The brutal Khmer Rouge regime executed 1 in 4 of its population with many being tortured and killed here - eventually being discarded in mass graves.
6) To enjoy Khmer arts and performances I'd highly recommend a traditional Apsara show. The performance consists of several parts including a folk dance, folk music and mime.
7) Want to feel happy inside? How about trying a happy pizza in Siem Reap? Not long ago, these special Khmer pizzas featured marijuana as a topping. Nowadays, it is just spices and herbs. A pizza pie won't cost you a fortune and it certainly tastes good.
8) In Phnom Penh, one of the main tourist attractions is the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum formerly known as S-21. What was once a primary school became converted into a detention, interrogation and torture center for the Khmer Rouge. An estimated 20,000 died here between 1975 and 1978. The evil man behind all of this was Pol Pot.
10) One of my favorite temples, aside from Angkor Wat, is Bayon located in Angkor Thom. At these ruins, you'll notice many cold faces that offer a hint of a smile. If you're good at counting try to spot the 216 faces that exist!
11) The local circus in Battambang supports a great cause while offering an entertaining show. Run by an NGO helping out disadvantaged children the performances are spectacular. What was great to hear is that some of the most talented performances have won scholarships to study abroad - truly a chance of a lifetime for them.
12) If you must have beach time I suppose you could consider Sihanoukville. I would not suggest Serendipity beach however - it's an absolute dump filled with garbage on the beach and sleazy behavior in the town.
13) If you wake up early enough and head straight to Banteay Srei you may just have the entire temple to yourself. That's exactly what happened to us as we were the first to arrive.
14) While visiting the temples of Angkor chances are you'll hear traditional Khmer music. Many of the performers playing traditional Cambodian music are landmine victims.
15) Have you ever watched the movie Tomb Raider before? If you have you'll notice Ta Prohm. This is where nature dominates architecture.
16) Taking a bus in Cambodia is never dull. Just look outside of your window and you'll be treated to stunning scenery and automobiles that don't exist elsewhere.
17) When visiting Cambodia be sure to check out the rural countryside. We took a countryside tour of Battambang where we got to see how certain foods are prepared and we even got to try eating insects! They tasted yummy!
That concludes our travel guide to Cambodia. Do you think we covered most of the best things to do? What would you recommend to others that wasn't included on our list?
This is part of our Travel in Cambodia series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Khmer culture, Khmer arts, Khmer foods, Khmer religion and Khmer people.

In this video I pick up my friend and fellow nomad Sam aka Nomadic Samuel from the train station and I take him on a brief tour of downtown Ottawa, Canada which is in the province of Ontario. It's early on a Saturday morning so not much going on and considering it's cold outside, even less...
On this intense tour we see Parliament, Sparks Street, the Byward Market, Notre Dame Cathedral, National Art Gallery (NAC), Chateau Laurier, War Memorial, Majors Hill Park, eat beaver tails and go for sushi...
It was a long day followed by some killer all you can eat sushi and to wrap things up I go full impulse buyer and snag a Macbook Pro 15" just because it was $100 off on the tail end of a Boxing Day sale...

You can find high quality serviced apartments for under $500 (some are less than $300) that offer modern amenities and are in located in close proximity to the old square of the city. Secondly, the food – both Thai and International – offers as much diverse selection as any city I've ever visited. If you want to gormandize on authentic Thai delights you'll have no shortage of options ranging from Thai street food to high class Thai restaurants. For the culture vulture, no shortage of opportunities exist to explore temples such as Doi Suthep, markets such as the Saturday night market or interact with animals such as at the Elephant Nature Park. When you get tired of Chiang Mai, the sleepy hillside town of Pai awaits where the pace is slower and you feel more like you're out in the countryside. Whether you love it or hate it, most journeys in Thailand begin and end in Bangkok. This steamy chaotic city offers some incredible temples to explore (such as Wat Arun and the Temple of the Mount) along with great shopping and nightlife. The following is a top attractions travel guide offering a snapshot of the best things to do in Thailand during your next vacation to Land of Smiles:

I sit down with my good friend and travel expert Sam from Nomadic Samuel and we rip through a list of "Travel tips that don't suck" which I wrote a few years ago on my blog. We go over each point and discuss it, adding a bit to it. These tips aren't your average generic ones about how to roll a towel or where to to find a cheap flight; it's information that will serve you on all of your travels regardless of where you're going or for how long.
Some of the tips include but are not limited to topics such as money changing, reasons to never carry a guidebook, what to do when lost at night, dealing with exchange rates, strangers asking where you live, paying cash or things, pick pockets, staying safe while traveling, multiple money sources, being proactive, dealing with stray dogs, logging into personal accounts from internet cafes aka keeping passwords safe, laptop locks, be the bigger person, pick company wisely, foreign etiquette, motor vehicles aka renting scooters and the like...
All these tips are taken from the post below:
http://stophavingaboringlife.com/30-travel-tips-that-dont-suck/
Believe it or not, I wrote that post in December of 2009 when I first started out in SE Asia and they are just as relevant when I discuss them with Sam ~5 years later.

Finland is a country we've had the privilege of traveling to twice in the past year. To say it is one of new favorite countries to visit would be an understatement. From our time exploring Helsinki to our outdoor adventures, Finland is a country we'd gladly return to anytime of the year. In our Finland travel guide we present to you our entire collection of travel videos from Finland in this mammoth compilation. You can watch the entire video, coming in at nearly two hours long, or skip to a section of interest indicated by time links in the description box below. We hope this video gives you a solid overview of the things you can do in Finland as well as all of the tasty Finnish cuisine worth sampling. This is Finland!

Curious about the best places to work online and live around the world in 2015?! I sat down with my friend and fellow long-term "digital nomad" if you want to call it that Nomadic Samuel and we talk about what you need in a place to work remotely and suggest some cools spots we've enjoyed around the world as well as spots we're looking into for 2015.
Working online these days is becoming more and more common and if everything you do is digital, why stay where you are? Why not spend less monthly and enjoy the luxury of traveling around the world as you wish? You can live like a king in certain parts of the world like Thailand and be surrounded by other ambitious people like yourself for less than an average existence in other parts of the world like say the USA or the United Kingdom...

Rural Korea (Korean Rice Fields) near Nomadic Samuel's home in Pyeongtaek 평택, South Korea
We check out the rice fields directly behind Nomadic Samuel's house in Jinsari - Anseong/Pyeongtaek, (안성 / 평택), South Korea. The area introduces rural life that takes place in many parts of Korea outside of Seoul and other major urban centres. We take a close look at the rice fields, irrigation systems and rural homes. Many of the homes appear to be of the squatter variety in the sense they look very run down. We hope this video shows you another side of Korea aside from what is typically presented in well known areas.

2) When based in Hoi An there are a plethora of attractions and landmarks worth visiting. Whether on foot - or on a bike - make sure to check out the Japanese covered bridge, Quang Dong Assembly hall and the Assembly Hall of the Fujian Chinese.
3) I've heard of people who literally fly to Vietnam to have an entire wardrobe made. No place in Vietnam is more famous for its custom made tailors than Hoi An. From dresses to shirts and shoes to purses you can get just about anything made here for less than what you'd likely pay back home.
4) Feasting on Vietnamese local delights should be a top priority for anyone visiting the country and what better way to do it than by visiting a local organic farm. Nestled just outside of Hoi An we visited Tra Que for some amazing Vietnamese cuisine.
5) For those with an adventurous streak having the opportunity to cruise down the Mekong Delta on a boat is an experience you'll never forget. To avoid getting a sunburn be sure to put on a conical hat - it only costs about a dollar!
6) If you've ever wondered what it is like to be in a dynamic and chaotic city look no further than Saigon. With plenty of attractions ranging from shopping to museums, there is never a shortage of things to do in the city.
7) Taking the bus in Vietnam is a bit of a nightmare considering the road conditions, traffic congestion and liberal use of the horns. The alternative? Taking a train. Our of our favorite train trips in Vietnam was traveling from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) to Nha Trang.
8) For the adventure sports junky the opportunity to go sea kayaking in Ha Long Bay is not to be missed. If you take a boat tour around Ha Long Bay for 2 to 3 days it should almost certainly be included on your itinerary.
9) Eating authentic and cheap Vietnamese cuisine is one of the things I miss the most about traveling in Vietnam. If you head over to the Bale Wel in Hoi An you can make yourself special rolls with country pancakes, spring rolls, satay, kimchi and other ingredients.
10) If there is one place in Vietnam I'd recommend more than anywhere else it is hands down Sapa. With breathtaking scenery, rolling hills and rice terraces it is worth exploring either on a one day hike or a several day trekking expedition. In this section we show you our first leg of the journey heading from Sapa to Lao Chai village.
11) If you have the opportunity be sure to listen to a live performance of traditional Vietnamese music.
12) The floating markets in the Mekong Delta region are fascinating. Bustling with activity you'll have a chance to purchase iced coffee and other refreshments.
13) Checking out the Central market in Hoi An allows you to experience what a local market is like versus one aimed towards a tourist.
14) Having the chance to learn how to cook and prepare Vietnamese cuisine is inexpensive and fun. There are plenty of cooking schools to choose from but we decided to go with Green Moss.
15) I've already waxed on and marveled about Sapa but it is worth mentioning again that if you have the opportunity to linger be sure to get a hotel room with a view.
16) Finally, we prefer the trains but taking a night bus - at least once - in Vietnam is certainly an experience you'll never forget. With all of the swerving and honking don't expect to get much sleep.

India Train Ride (High Speed Movie) Indian Railways भारतीय रेल
This video showcases both normal and high speed footage from my train rides in India using Indian railways during my nearly three month backpacking trip all over India. As my preferred method of transportation, I took the train as often as I could while traveling in India; moreover, there were few journeys that I did not take photos or record videos. I found the experience utterly fascinating and wanted to share my experiences with my family, friends and online with a public audience. For the footage, I used my Casio EX-FC100 high speed digital point and shoot camera to capture both slow motion and high definition video. The train rides included The following destinations: Old Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Amritsar, Agra, Varanasi, Kolkata.
This video highlights the beauty, diversity, poverty and bustling hive of activity that one can see outside of their train window. One will notice monkeys jumping out of trees, darting across tracks and running through farm fields. One will also see cows grazing in the fields, in garbage cans and nearby the tracks. Some of the scenery is particularly stunning with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. The India railway stations are buzzing with activity as Indian tea men (Chai wallas) sell items, passengers hop on and off board the trains and vendors sell meals.
At times we passed through colourful slums, where life existed on the train tracks along with hectic train stations filled with passengers. One can notice action on board with passengers looking out the window, playing games and viewing the scenery from the exit doors. All of this footage captured in slow motion (high speed) was not registered with my naked eye. In other words, I noticed things from this video that I couldn't see while taking the train ride. It was quite fascinating what was revealed. Overall, it was an amazing experience and something I would love to do again. I recommend taking the trains in India to anyone wanting an authentic experience of domestic travel:

With just 48 hours to explore Singapore we tried to cram in as many attractions as we possibly could.
Welcome to Singapore! We've got less than 48 hours in the city and we're going to show you as much as we possibly can.
With limited time ticking down to visit the world's most prosperous city state and busiest port, we set out on foot, bus, subway and boat to cover as much ground as we possibly could.
Singapore has often been given the title of a sterile Utopia; however, after traveling around chaotic Southeast Asian hubs like Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Saigon it was a welcome relief to visit a mega city that was clean, orderly, spacious and pedestrian friendly.
One of the top highlights was visiting the various districts including Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam.
Hopping on a traditional bum boat offered a unique perspective of the city as we were able to learn more about its colorful history on our guided tour.
One of the highlights was drinking Singapore Slings at the Raffles Hotel where the drink was invented. Paying 27 Singapore dollars allowed us to sip on this wonderful cocktail and throw peanuts on the floor.
Generally speaking, I'm a proponent of slow travel. Traveling slow allows you to live more like a local as opposed to racing around a city like a tourist; however, with just 48 hours in Singapore we were forced outside of our comfort zone, for a couple of days, and we ended up loving it.
The fast paced (and futuristic) elements of the city were conducive to our mission of seeing as much as we possibly could in such a short period of time.
With mere hours as opposed to days to explore the city we set out on foot, by bus and via boat to explore as much of the city as possible.
Although we visited many of the main attractions it was our time spent wandering around neighborhoods such as Kampong Glam (the historic Malaysian quarter) that were my favorite moments in the city.
As one of the most livable cities in all of Asia it is also one of the most expensive. If in the future I had a high paying position I would consider coming to Singapore as an expat as opposed to being just a tourist.
Singapore is impressive by day but really shines at night. Many of the standout landmarks have a completely different look when the sun goes down and the bright lights of the city emerge.
When it comes to street food Singapore ranks favorably with Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand. Hawker centres offer up a spread of Asian delights that were heavy on flavor while being light on our wallet.
In order to cover as much ground as possible we purchased hop on hop off bus tickets to get around the city. Being able to get on and off whenever we wanted was a real bonus as it helped us preserve our walking legs.
Although we saw many of the most popular attractions such as Merlion, Marina Bay and the Fullerton Hotel it was the adventures we had wandering around that formed the greatest impressions of the city.
Overall, our time in Singapore was distinctly memorable. Hopefully, we'll have a chance to come back again soon to explore more of this impressive 21st century city state.
