SD Crvena Zvezda

Sportsko Društvo Crvena Zvezda Beograd (English: Sports Society Red Star Belgrade), is a sports association from Belgrade, Serbia.

Since 2010, the society's managing board president has been Aleksandar Boričić, while the society's assembly president has been Petar Škundrić.

Novica Veličković

Novica Veličković (Serbian Cyrillic: Новица Величковић; born October 5, 1986) is a Serbian professional basketball player who plays for Trabzonspor of the Turkish Basketball League. He also represented the Serbian national basketball team internationally. Standing at 6 ft 8.75 in (2.05 m), he plays at the power forward position, but he can also play at small forward.

Professional career

Veličković started playing basketball for KK Drvomarket in 1996. Then he played for KK Zemun from 1998 to 2001 before signing with KK Partizan in 2001. He made his professional debut with Partizan during the 2004–05 season. He was the MVP of the Adriatic League 2009 Final Four and he won the Euroleague Rising Star Award for the 2008–09 season.

Veličković was seen as the first target of Real Madrid's new coach Ettore Messina. His transfer, with the signing of a two-year contract with an option for a third one, was made official on June 23, 2009. In June 2012, Real Madrid decided to release Veličković due to the numerous injuries.

KK Crvena zvezda

KK Crvena zvezda (Serbian Cyrillic: КК Црвена звезда, English: Red star Basketball Club) is a professional basketball club based in Belgrade. Crvena zvezda is a part of the Adriatic Basketball Association and compete in the ABA League, Euroleague and in the KLS. The team play domestic home matches in the Pionir Hall, and the Euroleague home matches in Kombank Arena. Zvezda's supporters are known as Delije.

History

When the subject of great teams in the cradle of European basketball arises, the name of Red Star Belgrade is always a part of the discussion. As one of the most-crowned teams in the former Yugoslavia, Red Star has always commanded attention wherever it plays.

1945–1968: Early years and ten consecutive championship titles

By winning the first of ten consecutive championship titles after the Second World War, the golden age of Red Star began. No domestic national selection could be imagined without seven or eight Red Star basketball players and the first quintet featured Nebojša Popović, Tulio Roklicer, Aleksandar Gec, Ladislav Demšar and Srđa Kalember. Their style was unique, they made basketball popular in Serbia and achieved first international results for former Yugoslavia, playing in an open-air court at Kalemegdan fortress. The greatness of this team cannot be disputed. They were pioneers of Yugoslavian basketball who achieved amazing results, entertaining the audience with their game style, just as with their squad harmony both on and off the court. After a decade filled with nothing but success, game scores started to decline, generation shift arrived and it took Red Star fourteen long years to win another trophy.

KK Partizan

KK Partizan (Serbian Cyrillic: Кошаркашки клуб Партизан, English: Partizan Basketball Club) is the professional basketball club based in Belgrade, Serbia. It is part of the multi-sports Belgrade-based club Partizan. The club competes in the KLS and Adriatic League.

During its more than six decades long history, Partizan has won as many as 45 trophies. Partizan is the holder of the 21 national champion titles. They have also won 14 national basketball cups and 6 Adriatic championships. The most significant trophy the club has won is the European Champion trophy at the Final Four of the Euroleague in Istanbul in 1992. KK Partizan was the European champion in 1992 with curiosity of winning the title, although playing all but one of the games (crucial quarter-final game vs. Knorr) on foreign grounds (in Madrid suburb Fuenlabrada); FIBA decided not to allow teams from the former Yugoslavia to play their home games at their home venues, because of open hostilities in the region. Same year club took national championship and cup, and won Triple Crown. KK Partizan was not allowed to defend the Euroleague title in the 1992–93 season, because of UN sanctions. They also won 3 Korać Cups in 1978, 1979 and 1989.
