An astronaut or cosmonaut is a person trained by a human spaceflight program to command, pilot, or serve as a crew member of a spacecraft. While generally reserved for professional space travelers, the terms are sometimes applied to anyone who travels into space, including scientists, politicians, journalists, and tourists.
Until 2002, astronauts were sponsored and trained exclusively by governments, either by the military, or by civilian space agencies. With the sub-orbital flight of the privately funded SpaceShipOne in 2004, a new category of astronaut was created: the commercial astronaut.
The criteria for what constitutes human spaceflight vary. The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) Sporting Code for astronautics recognizes only flights that exceed an altitude of 100 kilometers (62 mi). In the United States, professional, military, and commercial astronauts who travel above an altitude of 50 miles (80 km) are awarded astronaut wings.
As of June 20, 2011, a total of 523 people from 38 countries have reached 100 km (62 mi) or more in altitude, of which 520 reached low Earth orbit or beyond. Of these, 24 people have traveled beyond Low Earth orbit, to either lunar or trans-lunar orbit or to the surface of the moon; three of the 24 did so twice: Jim Lovell, John Young and Eugene Cernan. The three astronauts who have not reached low Earth orbit are Joe Walker, Mike Melvill and Brian Binnie.

Dr. Rick Marshall: It's beautiful! Ahhhhhhh...!
Dr. Rick Marshall: [Upon seeing a pterosaur make off with the tachyon amplifier] Oh, that blows. That buh-lows.
Dr. Rick Marshall: [after realizing he was right all along] Matt Lauer can suck it!
[Rick Marshall on the Today Show talking about his new scientific discovery]::Dr. Rick Marshall: It boils down to two simple words.::Matt Lauer: Renewable biofuels.::Dr. Rick Marshall: Close. Time warps.
Will Stanton: [on the rocks, to Rick] You ever get tired of being wrong?::Dr. Rick Marshall: [being chased by the T-Rex] I do! I really do!
[first lines]::Astronaut: Mission Control, come in. Mission Control, do you read?
Dr. Rick Marshall: Captain Kirk's nipples!
Dr. Rick Marshall: If you don't make it, it's your own damn "vault." That's a bitch slap of truth right there.
Will Stanton: [grabs cup in the shape of a woman's bust] This is a little travel mug I like to call the perfect woman. Big ole set of boobies- no head. And a handle.
Dr. Rick Marshall: Thank God for that. That one was peering into my soul.

Katie: I've got myself railroaded into a stud poker game!
Danny: We're picking up a bomb of static. Must be due to the Van Allen Belt.
Katie: I came to see about supper.::Price: Well, it's the altitude. It works up the appetite.
Katie: You're very forceful, aren't you?::Mason: Do I, er, need force?::Katie: I was talking about vibrations.::Mason: Oh. How are yours doing?::Katie: What do they say?::Mason: I'm not sure, but I like them.::Katie: And they like you. In time.

Plot
"2001" is a story of evolution. Sometime in the distant past, someone or something nudged evolution by placing a monolith on Earth (presumably elsewhere throughout the universe as well). Evolution then enabled humankind to reach the moon's surface, where yet another monolith is found, one that signals the monolith placers that humankind has evolved that far. Now a race begins between computers (HAL) and human (Bowman) to reach the monolith placers. The winner will achieve the next step in evolution, whatever that may be.

HAL: I've just picked up a fault in the AE35 unit. It's going to go 100% failure in 72 hours.
[choosing sandwiches from a cooler while flying over the lunar surface]::Dr. Floyd: What's that? Chicken?::Dr. Bill Michaels: Something like that. Tastes the same anyway.
HAL: I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do.
[Regarding the supposed failure of the parabolic antenna on the ship, which HAL himself falsified]::HAL: It can only be attributable to human error.
Dave Bowman: Hello, HAL. Do you read me, HAL?::HAL: Affirmative, Dave. I read you.::Dave Bowman: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.::HAL: I'm sorry, Dave. I'm afraid I can't do that.::Dave Bowman: What's the problem?::HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.::Dave Bowman: What are you talking about, HAL?::HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.::Dave Bowman: I don't know what you're talking about, HAL.::HAL: I know that you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.::Dave Bowman: [feigning ignorance] Where the hell did you get that idea, HAL?::HAL: Dave, although you took very thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.::Dave Bowman: Alright, HAL. I'll go in through the emergency airlock.::HAL: Without your space helmet, Dave? You're going to find that rather difficult.::Dave Bowman: HAL, I won't argue with you anymore! Open the doors!::HAL: Dave, this conversation can serve no purpose anymore. Goodbye.
HAL: Just what do you think you're doing, Dave?
[on Dave's return to the ship, after HAL has killed the rest of the crew]::HAL: Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.
HAL: I know I've made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal. I've still got the greatest enthusiasm and confidence in the mission. And I want to help you.
[HAL's shutdown]::HAL: I'm afraid. I'm afraid, Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I'm a... fraid. Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a HAL 9000 computer. I became operational at the H.A.L. plant in Urbana, Illinois on the 12th of January 1992. My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you.::Dave Bowman: Yes, I'd like to hear it, HAL. Sing it for me.::HAL: It's called "Daisy." [sings while slowing down] Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of you. It won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage. But you'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two.
[last lines]::Dr. Floyd: [prerecorded message speaking through TV on board Discovery while Bowman looks on] Good day, gentlemen. This is a prerecorded briefing made prior to your departure and which for security reasons of the highest importance has been known on board during the mission only by your H-A-L 9000 computer. Now that you are in Jupiter's space and the entire crew is revived it can be told to you. Eighteen months ago the first evidence of intelligent life off the Earth was discovered. It was buried 40 feet below the lunar surface near the crater Tycho. Except for a single very powerful radio emission aimed at Jupiter the four-million year old black monolith has remained completely inert. Its origin and purpose are still a total mystery.
Plot
Frank Capra's last film was a documentary for Martin Marietta Corporation, shown at the Hall of Science Pavilion of the New York World's Fair of 1964-1965. After a series of scenes of Earth from space, narrator Danny Thomas gets various opinions on space travel from "the man in the street" (actually, actor Sid Melton and players from other Capra films like Charles Lane, Alan Reed, Doodles Weaver and John Litel, plus a black woman, an Asian man, a heavyset woman, a man with a large family, and a no-nonsense type who says knowledge isn't expensive, ignorance is.) Animated sections illustrate the invention of gunpowder, a typical space shuttle visit to resupply a space station, and the problems to be overcome living for long periods in space.

Can anybody hear me?
Am I talking to myself?
My mind is running empty
In this search for someone else
Who doesn't look right through me.
It's all just static in my head
Can anybody tell me why I'm lonely like a satellite?
'Cause tonight I'm feeling like an astronaut
Sending SOS from this tiny box
And I lost all signal when I lifted off
Now I'm stuck out here and the world forgot
Can I please come down, cause I'm tired of drifting round and round
Can I please come down?
I'm deafened by the silence
Is it something that I've done?
I know that there are millions
I can't be the only one who's so disconnected
It's so different in my head.
Now I lie awake and scream in the zero gravity
And it's starting to weigh down on me.
Let's abort this mission now
Can I please come down?
So tonight I'm calling all astronauts
all the lonely people that the world forgot
If you hear my voice come pick me up
Are you out there?
'Cause you're all I've got!
And tonight I'm feeling like an astronaut
Sending SOS from this tiny box
And I lost all signal when I lifted off
Now I'm stuck out here and the world forgot
'Cause tonight I'm feeling like an astronaut
Sending SOS from this tiny box
To the lonely people that the world forgot
Are you out there?
'Cause you're all I've got!
Can I please come down?
'Cause I'm tired of drifting round and round.
I am an astronaut falling through the night
I am an astronaut lost beyond your sight
I am an astronaut letting go and holding tight
I am an astronaut just don't ask me why
You are the sun and I€™m falling towards you
You are the sun and you're coming into view
You are the sun and every word I say is true
You are the sun and you melt me yes you do
I am an astronaut lost without a ship
I am an astronaut and I can't escape your grip
I am an astronaut and I can feel it start to slip
I am an astronaut and I am falling as I trip
You are the sun and I know you are the one
You are the sun and this story's just begun
You are the sun and you cannot be outrun
You are the sun and I€™m having so much fun
I am an astronaut and it's out of my control
I am an astronaut and you play the starring role
I am an astronaut and your swallowing me whole
I am an astronaut and I€™m only rock-n-roll
And you are the sun and much too strong to fight
You are the sun and everything's alright
You are the sun and you've wet my appetite
You are the sun and I€™m blinded by the light
I wanna plug you in
I wanna get you things
Send you a pentagram
Feed you diazepam
I wanna play the game
I wanna live again
I wanna bend your spoons and make your
Silver shine
I'll wear a stylin' mustache
You'll wear a frozen smile
We'll run like Tamil Tigers
We'll drink the poison vial
I'm not the Jack of diamonds
I'm not the six of spades
I don't know what you thought
I'm not your astronaut
Because our surly stare
Is so revealing
Because your feet are bare
My eyes are peeling
Because your mistletoe
Because I gamble
Because I told you so

I feel like an astronaut
Suffocating on the moon
So far from home
Encased in this plastic dome
I can barely see the earth from here
I cut my tether willingly
'Til i realise it's killing me
But something always saves my life
Wish i knew it's name
I should never be an explorer
Interstellar overdrive is playing on her phonograph
She believes he's still alive out there in his hovercraft
Entering the atmosphere it shudders and it breaks apart
Fragments falling everywhere one hits her heart
Your lonely sister is praying for an astronaut
She rises from her knees to knock his helmet off
Walking in an open field she comes across an ankle bone
Takes it home and drills a hole and wears it on a leather thong
Having such an awful time accepting that he's really dead
Her astronaut's alive and well inside her head
Your lonely sister is praying for an astronaut
Nobody wants to lose,
We’ve just been spinning in space,
And it shouldn't have to take,
Forever,
But while the planets and the stars,
Are cooling down,
You’ve just been taking your time,
But you didn’t want to waste forever..
Sometimes you feel so far away from you
Just like an astronaut is going to,
Just like an astronaut in outer space,
I’m spinning away,
I’m spinning away,
I’m spinning away,
I’m spinning away,
And you shouldn't have to choose,
So you look up to the sky,
You’ll be looking for a sign,
Forever,
And I hold you by the hand,
And Hang on,
Its such a beautiful view,
You hang on,
You hold on,
Sometimes you feels so far away from you
Just like an astronaut is going to,
Just like an astronaut in outer space,
I’m spinning away,
I’m spinning away,
I’m spinning away,
I’m spinning away,
If you look inside the light you might see them,
Hiding in the corner of your eye.
Waiting for their time, preparing,
They will put us, all, against the wall...WALL
If you listen close enough you can hear it,
There's a tiny voice inside your head,
A broadcast constantly repeating,
Resistance is Futile, Nowhere to go...
Chorus:
Every time I try, every time I die,
Satellites return to ground, Gravity still hold s the upper hand,
Every time I try, every time I die,
Atmospheres are burning out,
We're Astronauts all melting in thin air.
Can you feel the end is fast approaching,
As they slowly, slowly take control,
Converting, changing, engineering,
Time is running out for us.
Every time I try, every time I die,
Satellites return to ground, Gravity still hold s the upper hand,
Every time I try, every time I die,
Atmospheres are burning out,
We're Astronauts all melting in thin air.
When I grow up
Don't be a doctor
A lawyer or a cop
All I want to be
Is an Astronaut
Why can't you see?
It's the only thing I wanna be
Suit and tie is not for me
It's my destiny to be (to be)
An astronaut
Astronaut, I wanna be an astronaut
An astronaut, I wanna be an astronaut
Astronaut, I wanna be an astronaut
An astronaut
Why can't you understand?
I wanna take command
Of a space ship
Mom and Dad
You gave me everything you never had
But all I want to be
My life-long dream
All I want to be is an
Astronaut, I wanna be an astronaut
An astronaut, I wanna be an astronaut
Astronaut, I wanna be an astronaut
An astronaut, I wanna be an astronaut
Astronaut, I wanna be an astronaut
An astronaut, I wanna be an astronaut
Astronaut, I wanna be an astronaut
An astronaut, I wanna be an astronaut
As I look through the evening sky
I think to myself
How much He must love you and I
The Milky Way makes me look
Like a piece of dust on the road
But the Milky Way is a speck of dust
Compared to my Lord
That's how big He is
That's how big He is
And I don't know that much about astronauts
But I know that Jesus cares an awful lot
He made the stars
He made the moon
Just think of how much more
He loves you
Space may be the final frontier
For a lot of people who show no fear
They step outside and they look around
They take a sample and come back down
Have they ever found the meaning of life out there
I don't think so, no way
Not long ago
When the astronauts discovered
That us down below
Are living on a little rock with no place to go
So much that they'll never know
Oh boy
They just want to be back at home
The elephant sees
The dangers of the jungle
The birds and the bees
Are home and they know
Which way they fly
If only I knew how to fly
The moment they got me to try
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...
The fish in the see
Have many things to tell me
Well what could they be?
I\'ll never know I had to go
Because I don\'t associate with fish
So I continue to roam
Oh boy
Looking to find me a home
There you go again
You're throwing claims around
Like you know where i've been
Oh no, you don't know me at all
You don't know me at all!
It's funny how
You have me figured out
When i don't even know myself
Oh no, you don't know me at all
You don't know me at all!
You've been hangin' around too long
Telling me that i am wrong
Nose in the air & ego high
Holding me down, so you can fly
But i just wanna make my mark
Instead if drowning in my thoughts,
Guess it's finally time to start
And rise up like an astronaut
Uuuuu uh uh uh
Uuuuu uh uh uh
Uuuuu uh uh uh
Rise up like an astronaut
There you go again
Working your way inside my head
Planting your seeds of doubt,
But they won't grow here no more
You don't know me at all!
It's funny cause if you recall that you're the one
Who always plays the victim card,
But we don't care anymore
You don't know me at all!
You've been hangin' around too long
Telling me that i am wrong
Nose in the air & ego high
Holding me down, so you can fly
But i just wanna make my mark
Instead if drowning in my thoughts,
Guess it's finally time to start
And rise up like an astronaut
Uuuuu uh uh uh
Uuuuu uh uh uh
Uuuuu uh uh uh
Rise up like an astronaut
Ooooh oh oh i'm not fallin
Ooooh oh oh i'm not fallin
Ooooh oh oh i'm not fallin
Down, down, down, down
Ooooh oh oh i'm not fallin
Ooooh oh oh i'm not fallin
Ooooh oh oh i'm not fallin
Down, down, down, down
You don't know me at all!!
You've been hangin' around too long
Telling me that i am wrong
Nose in the air & ego high
Holding me down, so you can fly
But i just wanna make my mark
Instead if drowning in my thoughts,
Guess it's finally time to start
And rise up like an astronaut
Like an astronaut
Uuuuu uh uh uh
Uuuuu uh uh uh
Uuuuu uh uh uh
Rise up like an astronaut
Vers. 1:
[alright then,alright then]
Ja str
"Do you still believe in God?"
Said the Preacher to the astronaut
I heard it's kind of lonesome there
Nothin to talk to but a cold, cold air
Tell me, tell me what was it like?
Did meaning fall from that celestial night?
Did it wrap you up in conversation?
Did it leave you like some ineffible nothin?
Are you feelin alright? right, right.
In the blink of a falshing, blinding light.
Are you feelin alright?
Did you ever really feel anythin?
Tell me are ya gonna come back?
Do you really think that you're one of them?
They're gonna hunt you, they're gonna cut you
They're gonna open up your body and stuff you
Till you say it's written, till you make the payments
Leave ya heavin in the twigs and the toxic
There's nothin inside. Inside, inside
Tell me are the words still paralyzed? Lies, lies, lies.
He loved her so
But she was already gone long ago
He really wanted her to stay
She couldn´t wait to getaway
And I was stuck in the middle
He tried to work it out
But that was hard cause she´s an astronaut
He didn´t know a thing
mmmm behind his back the story was happening
And I was stuck in the middle
He loved her so
But she was already gone long ago
He really tried until the end
mmmm she had her own plans to attend
And I was stuck in the middle
I was stuck in the middle
I was stuck in the middle
She left him to be with me
We had a few things together but eventually
I understood what se was upto
it was planned from the beginning
and the plan was carried thru
And now I´m still in the middle
I loved her so
But she was already gone to the next in row
I really wanted her to stay
mmmm She couldn´t wait to getaway
And I was stuck in the middle
I loved her so
But she was already gone long ago
I really tried until the end
mmmm she had her own plans to attend
And I was stuck in the middle
I was stuck in the middle
Makes my hair stand up on end,
Something alien happening,
Sychronize but don't comprehend,
'Cause where I stop that's where you begin!
Another moment I commit,
A pleasure as I'm gonna' take the hit,
And I'm addicted to the state you're in,
'Cause you're getting me out of it!
Wasted, there's nothing gonna ace this,
And were gonna go to space it,
'Cause I'm leaving with an astronaut!
Groovin' out to X-ray specs,
Something tells me your the alien sex,
I can't imagine now what comes next,
When this astronaut connects!
Coming on when I touch your skin,
A kinda' strange light you emit,
I hear you're gravity pull me in,
Now your getting me out of it!
Wasted, there's nothing gonna ace this,
And were gonna go to space it,
'Cause I'm leaving with an astronaut!
There, feat for quantum leap,
Because space is hot and deep,
And we follow giant footprints,
As we fall in, falling like the twins,
Through Saturn's holy rings,
And if they can't hold us, where it's gonna end up,
I feel it closing out
The tunnels getting smaller and I'm blacking out
I'm spinning in a capsule world high out in space
I can see you down there
You're as small as hell if it exists
But I don't care
I'm just floating out here
I'm coming in
I'm burning up
I'm feeling fine I can't get enough
I'm flaking out
I'm never giving in
My head is spinning
My head is spinning
Sammy's coming down
He's filling himself in again
He's getting high out in space
He thinks he's free again
I've been waiting such a long time for this
Where are we and what is this place
I'm coming in
I'm burning up
I'm feeling fine I can't get enough
I'm flaking out
I'm never giving in
My head is spinning
My head is spinning
Roses fall so I can't catch the dust
I squeeze the sand from your hands to match my cuts
Faking breathe easy, lure me in
Man I got to get out
I got to get out
I can't take this scene anymore
I'm coming in
I'm burning up
I'm feeling fine
I can't get enough
I'm flaking out
I'm never giving in
My head is spinning
My head is spinning
I'm alone out here
The western lands, day turns to night
Immaterial play of light
It's very nice out here
I poked my hand in a hornet's nest
They flew out all around my face
I guess it's just self defense
The camera pans, the focus shifts
The world is a hornet's nest
I learned my lesson well
I surf the net and watched TV
There's peace in the Middle East
Come over to my house
I'll pour some tea for us
one sugar or two
Your hand is right in front of me,
your finger fragilely, holy on
my side
Faster than an astronaut
Who's coming home to what
he left long ago
I've made this brand new bed for
you, I trust the things we do,
holy or not
Open the gatecause you're already late,
at the end at the lane, is a glass of
lemona-ade, keep or the path when
you hear the laugh, in the white of her
palm is your heart!
(I'll be brave for a while
I won't bring you down
anymore then you are)
Please, be my baby, don't mean
Maybe or not, look out the
window, there's a bright
small enough to slip inside a book?
Small enough to cover with your hand
Because everyone around you wants to look?
Is it enough to have some love
small enough to fit inside the cracks?
The pieces dont fit together so good
For all the breaking all the gluing back
I am still not getting what I want!
I want to touch the back of your right arm
I wish you could remind me who I was
Because everyday Im a little further off
But you are my lovely astronaut,
Flying in the face of science
I would gladly stay an afterthought
Just bring back some nice reminders
Is it getting harder to pretend
That life goes on without you in the wake?
Can you see the means without the end?
In the random frantic action that we take
Is it getting easy not to care
Despite the many rings around your name
It isnt funny and it isnt fair
You traveled all this way and its the same
But you are my lovely astronaut,
Flying in the face of science
I would gladly stay an afterthought
Just bring back some nice reminders
I would tell them anything to see you split the evening
But as you see I do not have an awful lot to tell
Everybodys sick for something that they can find fascinating
everyone but you and he then you are feeling well
Yes you are my lovely astronaut
Clutching(?) in the name of science
Just my luck they found you up ahead(?)
Its a very nice reminder
Its a very nice reminder
You may be acquainted with the night
But I have seen the darkness and the day
And you must know that its a terrifying sight
Hit it G
Some of these days
I just can’t seem to get out of bed
Waking up spider webs growing up in my hair
I’ve been last; tumbleweeds growin up in my face
It seems just like it’s a good time to blast off to
space
Right about now
Momma I’m an astronaut
Right about now
Momma I’m an astronaut
Right about now
Momma I’m an astronaut
Yeah
Some of these days despite all the things that in my
head
Some of the days I love you despite all the shit you
said
Tumbleweeds, rolling on rolling on around this town
I’m blasting off; I don’t even think I hang around
Right about now
Momma I’m an astronaut
Right about now
Momma I’m an astronaut
Right about now
Momma I’m an astronaut
Yeah
Should I leave?
I should have left a long time ago
Should I leave?
I should have left a long time ago
Should I leave?
I should have left a long time ago
Should I leave?
I should have left a long time ago
I just need a spaceship to get me right out of here
I wish I had never met you let you in my stratosphere
Spider webs getting in my brain
I’m the brother that you drove insane
I’m just a kid from the Milky Way
I’m blasting off momma I can’t stay
Right about now
Momma I’m an astronaut
Right about now
Momma I’m an astronaut
Right about now
Momma I’m an astronaut
Right about now
Momma I’m an astronaut
Yeah
Beam me up, beam me up Scotty
Beam me up yeah
Beam me up, beam me up Scotty
Get me out of here
Beam me up, beam me up Scotty
Beam me up yeah
Beam me up, beam me up Scotty

When I grow up
When at last I find I€™m a grown up
When I cannot climb any higher
What will I be
(V2)
When I grow up
When I€™ve finished school and I have to go
When I€™ve learnt the things that I€™ve got to know
What will I be
4,3,2,1, blast off!
(CH)
Astronaut
Wouldn€™t it be fun
Flying in the sun
And on to Jupiter and Mars
Heading out to Pluto
Flying in my spaceship
Going anywhere I want to go
(V3)
When I grow up
Will I want the things that I want today
Will they be the things I€™ll need on my way
What will I need
(V4)
When I grow up
When I€™ve done the things that I tried to do
Will I be someone to look up to
What will I be
4,3,2,1, blast off!
(OUTRO)
When I grow up, will my dreams belong to me
When I grow up, what will I be
Will there be hope for me
Does anybody know, which way to go
Cos I want to know

(You Ain't No Astronaut) But We've Been Out There In Orbit. And Walked Further Than The Moon Ain't We (Ain't We). Ten To One Of You Found A Dude. Straightened You As Good As Me. Wouldn't Be No More Angel To Me Anyway (Anyway). (Ain't Gon Pull No Train On You.) (Yea Man That Shit Was Wildin'.) (No Fray Train Anyway.) (Maybe One Or Two After The Surprise Eve.) (He's First Cuz It's His Party.) (First As Four As They'll Know Anyway.) (And It Ain't How It Look Like Rain Tonight Anyway.) (Come On, Come On)
so i'm hittin the town tonight
cinder blocks for feet
shufflin' through all the gazes i know better than to meet
finally i found a home
i finally have to leave
another permanent place i'd always hoped i'd make it to
i'm not the first of the astronauts to reach first avenue
a suburban flower tryin' to break some city rules
[chorus]
cause i'm leavin the ground tonight
i'm over your ceilin'
life is but a dream
and though you may pretend
this is how it ends
gone again
gone again
so baby open your canyons up
and sweep me right along
won't you give me your cold embrace
i'll give you one more song
then you tell me a lie
and say you'll miss me when i'm gone
[chorus]
couldn't tell you for sure the view is better from above
She was on her way home he was lying away,
Assistance from others had never led her astray,
She had a good day,
Was persuaded by summer air to walk instead of getting the train,
The decision so innocent as innocent as she,
Uncorrupted so innocent and sweet
An innocence interrupted by an incident
A ___ in two people so different in belief
She came from the depths and ascend, bumped into he who dement,
Intent on inflicting the same pain that been led
The decision made by he for she had never consented.
And unprovoked the most vemonous attack,
He took from her that which she can't get back,
And left her with that that she can't get rid of
Which is why whenever it's time for lift out
She builds a rocket out of stars in her spoon,
Straps up, the only way to make it to the moon,
Dear god, I hope you haven't forgot
This young brave astronaut
A habit she never wanted,
A pain she needed numbing,
And she'd rather feel nothing than the pain
An evening she can't forget,
Memories she can't stomach
Not for nothing but I need a inner vain
Friends she ignored till the phone stopped ringing,
Till her door stopped knocking,
Her door she only opens to let him in,
But she has no money so she lets him come
You can take that either away
A window she rarely opens so she can see the day,
Her stove she only uses to heat her spoon,
For her the only way she can reach the moon.
She builds a rocket out of stars in her spoon,
Straps up, the only way to make it to the moon,
Dear god, I hope you haven't forgot
This young brave astronaut
Looking up, looking up, looking up for the young brave astronaut
Give it up, give it up, give it up for the young brave astronaut
I know that you're busy but any time you got,
God please make a visit,
To the young, to the young, to the young,
To the young brave astronaut
She opens the window for a glimpse out
And heats a spoon over the stove
Feels a familiar sting and then slips out
With a window that isn't quite closed
With the window open and the stove still lit,
Along with the rain came a gust of wind,
Which blew the fire out,
Gas still running and her still breathing the gas in.
She builds a rocket out of stars in her spoon,
Straps up, the only way to make it to the moon,
Dear god, I hope you haven't forgot
I am an astronaut falling through the night
I am an astronaut lost beyond your sight
I am an astronaut letting go and holding tight
I am an astronaut just don't ask me why
You are the sun and I'm falling towards you
You are the sun and you're coming into view
You are the sun and every word I say is true
You are the sun and you melt me yes you do
I am an astronaut lost without a ship
I am an astronaut and I can't escape your grip
I am an astronaut and I can feel it start to slip
I am an astronaut and I am falling as I trip
You are the sun and I know you are the one
You are the sun and this story's just begun
You are the sun and you cannot be outrun
You are the sun and I'm having so much fun
I am an astronaut and it's out of my control
I am an astronaut and you play the starring role
I am an astronaut and your swallowing me whole
I am an astronaut and I'm only rock-n-roll
And you are the sun and much too strong to fight
You are the sun and everything's alright
You are the sun and you've wet my appetite
I hold faith
You, you drift in space
Alone
Crossing the big black sky
And a girl could go to rot
Married to an astronaut
But I'm gonna watch and wait
For you to return some day
As you breathe silently on the opposite side
Of the bed
I circle stars you said
Your rockets blare
And you're seven thousand million miles away
You're seven thousand million miles away
You're seven thousand million miles away
And you're seven thousand million miles away
