Introduction to Ashtanga (Power) Yoga

Reflecting on Gaza

Marking the one year anniversary of the Israeli military assault on Gaza in 2014, the Rachel Corrie Foundation presents Reflecting on Gaza, with special guests Maxine Fookson, Dr. Steve Niva, Eitan Isaacson, and Mohammed Usrof.  Panelists will share their personal connections to the region and discuss 2014 events in Gaza, their impact, and what lies ahead.  A community discussion on how to prevent a repeat of last year's events will follow.  The event is at Traditions Cafe, 300 5th Avenue SW, in Olympia.

Olympia Jazz Central presents Dmitri Matheny Group at Rhythm & Rye

Renowned jazz artist Dmitri Matheny will celebrate the international release of Sagebrush Rebellion, his tenth album as a leader, on Monday, August 31 at 8:00 pm at Rhythm & Rye in Olympia Washington.

The Olympia Jazz Central-sponsored appearance, part of a 100-city tour of the United States, will showcase selections from the new album, balancing fresh, original works with familiar jazz classics, hard bop, west coast cool and beloved standards from the Great American Songbook.

The Dmitri Matheny Group, directed by flugelhornist and composer Matheny, features Brian Kinsella on keyboard, Jeff Johnson on bass and Greg Williamson on drums.

“The Dmitri Matheny Group is a cohesive and seamless unit,” writes All About Jazz, “serving up equal parts soulful expression, caressing phrases, imaginative asides, and dedicated lyricism.”

Queer Rock Camp Show @ Olympia Library!

Come out, get loud (in the library!), and rock out with local bands featuring volunteers and campers from this year's and last year's Queer Rock Camp, a program of Stonewall Youth that aims to empower youth and build community through music. QRC supports the fluidity of gender and sexuality and sees music as a way to amplify resilience and self-expression. In just one week, campers learn an instrument, form bands, write songs, and perform at a public showcase at the Capitol Theater (on Saturday, August 15th). Bands performing at the library include Agatha and K8YH8R.

Amazing World of the Honeybee

Tending Your Gut Garden

Meghan Hintz, Certified Fermentationist and Health Coach will share her knowledge of digestive challenges, food sensitivities, and improving overall health through digestion.

Summer Reading Party
