Education
NATIONAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE: 4- 5 July 2015, University of Leicester
Theme: AFTER THE ELECTION, WHAT NEXT?
The National Education Conference is the highlight of the Union’s education policy calendar and each year attracts cutting edge speakers and workshop leaders. It provides the opportunity for members to discuss professional issues with colleagues from all parts of England and Wales and from all sectors of education.
Key speakers
Professor Ruth Lupton, co-author of the definitive account of the Coalition’s record on schools, will be giving the conference keynote. Other speakers include Aminul Hoque, talking about culture, youth identities and politics in East London and Professor Pat Thomson, author of ‘School Leadership - Heads on the Block?’, who will talk about the kinds of school change it is worth fighting for, and how we can do that here and now.
We’ll be addressing the impact of policies in several areas, including:
- Special education
- Assessment – with a particular focus on ‘learning without levels’
- ‘Radicalisation’ and the teaching of controversial issues
- Education with ‘character’.
- Turing round failing local systems
- Whole school change
We won’t just be criticising government policy, but talking about practical, here-and-now alternatives. We hope that those attending will feel inspired to take up these policies in their schools, and to feed into discussions in their local associations.
Conference fee
This year’s conference fee is £199.00 per person. The fee includes accommodation on Friday and Saturday nights and meals at the university from Friday evening up to and including Sunday lunch. Those local to the Leicester area who wish to attend the conference but do not require accommodation or evening meals can do so at a cost of £99.
