Now You Know Jack

First Ringer has just about the best thing I've seen about the Abramoff scandal.

Money (heh heh) quote:

Abramoff’s Republican connections are no secret. After all, the conservative lobbyist helped give $478,000 to the National Republican Congressional Committee and $436,000 to the National Republican Senate Committee. Unfortunately for Democrats, he also gave $423,000 to the Democratic Senate Caucus Committee and $354,000 to the Democratic Congressional Caucus Committee. In fact, Abramoff’s list is littered with Democrats. From Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy ($42,500), to the aforementioned Washington Sen. Patty Murray ($40,980), and more well-known Democrats such as Rep. Charley Rangel ($36,000), Sen. Byron Dorgan ($28,000), former Sen. Tom Daschle ($26,500), Sen. Tom Harkin ($15,500) and even Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid ($30,000). In all, Abramoff and Co. gave $4,434,761 over the last six years to both parties. Why, there’s even a little $9,000 contribution to the Minnesota Democratic Farmer Labor Party with Abramoff’s fingerprints on it, but not a contribution to the Minnesota GOP state party.
Read the whole thing.

This is as misleading as it is wrong. Jack Abramoff gave NOTHING to Democrats. Mitch you neeed to stop learning things, and I use the term very loosely, only from other blogs. Clients of Abramoff's gave money to Democrats, but you know what, THAT's not illegal.

What is the alleged violation, as far as I understand it, arises from two things, first Abramoff and Scanlon bilked Indian Casinos of HUGE fees promising things they did not intend to deliver (fraud), and further, used those fees, (not directed client fees), to lavish gifts on republican represntatives which they then prevailed upon to vote in a certain way. Jack Abramoff was once quoted as saying something akin to the right thing to do with Democrats is to choke the Bleep out of em, so SURE he gave to Democrats, except, he didn't.

Check your facts, getting crap from the right-wing lie-o-sphere is hardly worth reading.

Senate minority leader Harry Reid has stated he will NOT give back the money he recieved from Abramoff.

Posted by: Kermit at January 5, 2006 08:15 AM

PB,
Then why are you reading it?

Posted by: badda-blogger at January 5, 2006 08:34 AM

Buncombe, Peeb. Byron Dorgan - DEMOcrat from NoDak - is among those who is scrambling to get his Abramoff money returned.

You need to stop "learning" - I put that term in quotes, and giggle as I say it, knowing that you have never "learned" anything as long as I've known you that doesn't conform to your pre-existing prejudices - things from the major media. (Wow. That was fun. I should write like you more often!)

Posted by: mitch at January 5, 2006 09:02 AM

Who took money from Abramoff is a small matter. Who took bribes from Abramoff is the question. Hey, maybe there'll be just as many Dems indicted as Republicans. But I wouldn't bet on it.

"Check your facts, getting crap from the right-wing lie-o-sphere is hardly worth reading."

You sure spend a lot of time reading (and posting on) the 'right-wing lie-o-sphere'.

Not an efficient use of your time.

Posted by: Bill C at January 5, 2006 09:42 AM

Right, Angryclown, because Dems are such a glowing bastion of honesty and integrity. Whatever makes you feel less angry, and less of a clown.

PB: Do your initials stand for pea brain?

Via the Strib:

"Minnesota Democrats also resisted returning donations from Abramoff clients. DFL spokesman David Ruth said the Agua band donated $9,000 in January 2003 to help pay for the five-day Senate campaign of former Vice President Walter Mondale after the death of Sen. Paul Wellstone. 'We are not going to give it back,' Ruth said, because the DFL has 'no connection' to Abramoff or the tribe.

Oberstar had one casual meeting in 2003 with Alan Slomowitz, a member of Abramoff's lobbying firm, and the chairman of the Agua Caliente band, but nothing of substance was discussed, spokeswoman Mary Kerr said. She said Oberstar would keep $1,500 in 'perfectly legal' donations he got in 2002 and 2004 from the Agua band, as well as $1,000 each from the Mississippi Choctaw and Saginaw Chippewa."

And, from CNS News:

Among those named by the NRSC as the worst examples of "Democrat hypocrisy" for taking money from Abramoff and his associates are: Sen. Byron Dorgan, (D-N.D.) who received at least $79,300; Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), who received at least $45,750; Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), who received at least $68,941 and Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), who received at least $6,250.

Well then, going by your logic PB none of the Republicans who took money from Abramoff's clients didn't do anything illegal either! Therefore, no one in DC has anything to worry about.

Posted by: The Lady Logician at January 5, 2006 11:23 AM

Wow, now we're using the strib as factual support? Who are you people.

btw - this is a list of all of the people ABRAMOFF gave money to. And yes, all republicans.

Oy. Any attempt to paint this as equally bad for the Dems as it is for the GOP is just plain pitiful. Sorry, no pony.

Slamming anyone for posting at this site seems like a pretty bad idea to me. Frankly, I worry that only conversing with those who always agree with us contributes to the problems our country is facing right now and squashes all attempts to reach common ground in order to solve problems.

Since the corruption in Washington does reach across the aisle, why not discuss how we can clean house throughout and redirect our government to care for Americans and American issues rather than their re-election coffers and funding their pet projects?

Posted by: Teena at January 6, 2006 07:06 AM

HahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Hooooooo....

Heh heh, "common ground"!

Posted by: angryclown at January 6, 2006 07:21 AM

The only "common ground" we'll ever find with the blue state scum is the battleground, when we finally cut the shit and put all the enemies of this nation to the pike. It can not come too soon.

Posted by: DLG at January 6, 2006 07:31 AM

Bring it on, tough guy. The blue states could take you with Massachusetts tied behind our backs. Of course we'd have to temporarily do without the, uh.... soybeans, potash and whatever else you manage to produce in between reruns of Lawrence Welk and Hee Haw. But I figure we can find alternative sources - you know, considering our vast wealth and all.

Posted by: angryclown at January 6, 2006 08:18 AM

"Frankly, I worry that only conversing with those who always agree with us contributes to the problems our country is facing right now and squashes all attempts to reach common ground in order to solve problems."

Coming from the same Teena who believes the plane in Pennsylvania was shot down by the military, right?

And, Angryclown? If you think red states only produce potash and soybeans, you'll be a particularly hungry little bastard, to say nothing of without fuel and most manufactured goods, in the fanciful war between blue and red states. I'm sure you'll pound the red staters into submission with all your metrosexual weaponry though.

Posted by: Ryan at January 6, 2006 09:47 AM

Angryclown. Have fun spending your vast wealth when you are dead. Other countries will be happy to sell you potash and soybeans. But you'll all be dead, so they might balk at the terms.

Posted by: DLG at January 6, 2006 10:32 AM

Please. While you all are having your little pre-battle prayer circle, I'll personally kick you in the nads.

Posted by: angryclown at January 6, 2006 11:46 AM

Ryan brayed: And, Angryclown? Let's see, we got MIT, CalTech, the Ivies. I'm pretty sure some of our scientists could come up with a Moon-based death ray maybe a week after you cross the border in your '89 Ford pickup trucks.

Posted by: angryclown at January 6, 2006 11:57 AM

Good luck with that once the power grid in Ohio is diverted away from the East coast. I'm sure your brain-heavy scientists will do just fine with electricity generated from a potato. Oh, wait, they won't have potatos either.

Seriously Clown, are you even nominally aware of how entirely dependant metro blue state areas are on their red state counterparts? You owe almost your entire cushy metro existence to the bounty provided by red states. I don't know if it's more amusing or sad that you're apparently unaware of that.

Posted by Ryan at January 6, 2006 12:31 PM

Of course not. Everyone knows that food comes from grocery stores. Or trendy little bistros.

Oh yeah, we'll have a serious electricity problem. You know, once Niagara Falls dries up. And the Hoover Dam falls down. Bounty from the Red States? I don't mind scraping by on the products of the San Joaquin Valley and upstate New York. We're smarter, we work twice as hard and we have lots more money. Go milk a cow, Farmer Ryan, secure in the knowledge that the Blue States will continue carrying you economically. For now.

Posted by: angryclown at January 6, 2006 01:22 PM

Not to be rude, Clown, but you're now exposing yourself as a complete ignoramus, and it really isn't pretty. Your sheer lack of understanding of economics and inter-dependancy is bordering on shocking.

The population of the East Coast could not sustain itself with its own resources. You may not mind scraping by with what the San Joaquin Valley can provide, but I have this sneaking suspicion that the millions of millions of your fellow East Coasters might find it a bit harder to feed themselves. Oh, and you'll be paying roughly 20 times more for that food you manage to find and scrape by on, so congratulations on that.

As for the rest of your twaddle, I find it difficult to reconcile that you're somehow smarter, when all written evidence by you in this very thread seems counter to that claim. You work twice as hard? Really? Where was that study done? And congratulations on all that extra money, as I hear it comes in handy with the cost of living as outrageously high as it is on the East and West coasts.

I know you like to bait people in Mitch's comments, Clown, but often you just descend into sheer lunacy. I'm glad that you're so proud of living on the East coast, but the reality you have to come to terms with here is that the liberal blue enlightened world you perceive yourself to be living in is made possible largely due to the red state ocean you deride so dismissively.

Posted by: Ryan at January 6, 2006 01:45 PM

Hey, whatever you need to tell yourself to feel relevant, Ryan. In all seriousness, I'd miss the Red States. Who would Angryclown have to laugh at?

Posted by: angryclown at January 6, 2006 02:20 PM

Most likely? Yourself.

Posted by: Ryan at January 6, 2006 02:36 PM

Posted by Ryan at January 6, 2006 01:45 PM

All AC works hard at is being provocative. I can't blame him. It must be hard living in that ugly, smelly, crowded, expensive city. Watching Seinfeld and Sex in the City reruns over and over again while muttering "We are superior, we are superior".

Posted by: Kermit at January 6, 2006 03:58 PM

Where did DLG go? Seriously, this thread was a lot funnier when he was still piking people.

Posted by: rew at January 6, 2006 04:45 PM

"Let's see, we got MIT, CalTech, the Ivies..."

So the Blue States have cornered the market on grade inflation and ass-kissing for advancement.

OK, 'clown. Point for you.

Posted by: mitch at January 7, 2006 08:47 AM

" we work twice as hard"

(checks back on time-stamps of AC's comments, knowing as he does the Clown's work schedule...)

" and we have lots more money"

It's easier for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven.

Besides, not only doesn't money buy love or happiness, but I've seen what housing costs in NYC; money barely buys subsistence out there.

We in the midwest have enough money left over to buy - well, pikes, for starters.

Posted by: mitch at January 7, 2006 08:57 AM

Of course folks like Angry Clown work harder than we do... it takes a lot of effort conjuring up happy thoughts when you try to feel as smug and act as condescending as HE does.

C'mon, Angry Clown... you know we love you like the secondary stages of syphillis.

badda-babbler said: C'mon, Angry Clown... you know we love you like the secondary stages of syphillis.

Wise words, Mitch. But I think Badda's been trying to buy love.

Badda, a word of advice: penicillin. The faith-healing won't work on this one.

Posted by: angryclown at January 7, 2006 02:27 PM

(You just proved me right AGAIN, Clown! lol!!!)

C'mon, son... I'm not saying you GAVE my syph, merely that we love YOU as if you were the secondary stage of syph.

There's a word for you, pally... maroon.

Posted by: badda-blogger at January 7, 2006 03:51 PM

That remedial reading class doesn't seem to be working for you, Badda. You see, the rest of us lack the experience necessary to compare anything to the secondary stages of syphillis. Not so Badda-Bumbler.

By the way, Badda, I'm not your son. If I were, that would make you both my father and my grandfather. (Could somebody smarter than Badda please explain that one to him?)

Posted by: angryclown at January 8, 2006 08:20 AM

AC,
Why does calling you son only have one meaning to you? Talk about requiring a remedial reading course. (And AGAIN you prove me right, lol!)

Posted by: badda-blogger at January 8, 2006 08:28 AM

Gawd....I go away for a week...TalkRadio around town in the Twin Cities collapses into a boring left to apolitical mass but things still do not change...PB and Angryclown are still raving c*nts.

Abramoff gave to EVERYONE (Demonrat and Republicrat) and ripped Indians and their casinos off to boot in influence peddling. Seems to be a Florida murder or two along the way, also.

My prediction Congress will agree in bipartisan-ly fashion to quietly drop the whole matter because they will all get this tar baby stuck to them.

Ah yes, bow down to the red state producers who totally rely upon handouts that come from taxing blue states. Let's just call them 'welfare states', because that's what they are.
