Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and commonly referred to as Washington, "the District", or simply D.C., is the capital of the United States. On July 16, 1790, the United States Congress approved the creation of a federal district to become the national capital as permitted by the U.S. Constitution. The District is therefore not a part of any U.S. state. It was formed from land along the Potomac River donated by the states of Maryland and Virginia; however, the Virginia portion was returned by Congress in 1846.
A new capital city named after George Washington was founded in 1791 to the east of the preexisting port of Georgetown. Congress consolidated the City of Washington, Georgetown, and the remaining unincorporated area within the District under a single municipal government in 1871. The city shares its name with the U.S. state of Washington, located on the country's Pacific coast.
Washington, D.C., had an estimated population of 617,996 in 2011. The city was the 24th most populous place in the United States as of 2010. Commuters from the surrounding Maryland and Virginia suburbs raise the city's population to over one million during the workweek. The Washington Metropolitan Area, of which the District is a part, has a population of nearly 5.6 million, the seventh-largest metropolitan area in the country.

There is no pain Jesus can't feel
No hurt He can not heal
All things work according to His perfect will
No matter what you're going through
Remember God is using You
For the battle is not yours
It's the Lord's
There's no sadness Jesus can't feel
And there is no sorrow
that He can not heal
For all things work
according to the Master's holy will
No matter what you're going through
Remember that God is only using You
For the battle is not yours
It's the Lord's
It's the Lord's
Yes It's the Lord's
Hold your head up high
Don't you fright
It's the Lord's
It's the Lord's
Yes It's the Lord's
No matter what
You're going through
Remember that God
Only wants to use you
For the battle is not yours
It's the Lord's
No matter what
You happen to go through right now
Remember that in the midst of it all
God only wants to use you
No matter what you're going through
For the battle is not yours
It's the Lord's
No matter what it is
That you're going through
Hold your head up, stick your chest out
And remember He's using you
No matter what you're going through
God is only using you
For this battle is not yours alone
This battle is not yours, no
You can not handle it all by yourself
No, no, no, no, no, no
It's not yours
This battle is not yours
It's the Lord's, not yours
This battle is not yours
The Lord is the only one who can fight it
He wants to use you as His vessel
So be open to Him
It's not yours
No It's not yours
It's the Lord's, not yours
The battle is not your's
It's the Lord's
Hallelujah
yeah!
Hey, How we breath And how we choke
The night is black Your heart is broke
Oh into shaves And into shards
We smash like glass We fall like stars
Leave it alone
Leave it alone
I know you're dangerous
I know you're dangerous
Oh, I know the broken-hearted sing 'Hallelujah'
I'll call you Holy Moses
You got no name You're just a number
You're still a stranger You got no shame
I watch you walking You look like smoke
It should be haunting But no one's watching
Leave me alone
Leave me alone
I know I'll pay for this
I know I'll pay for this
Even though you say I don't believe you
And I, I call you Holy Moses
I know, I know you're keeping all your secrets to yourself
I know, I know you're holding onto mine as well
But you look like a dead man, Yeah you're all skin and bones
There's nothing I can do for you now, Holy Moses oh..
You're still a stranger, You're on the make
You've got this fever You're such a snake
I hope you're happy It's such a shame
You wear the snakeskin I wear the blood yeah
Leave it alone
Leave it alone
I know you're dangerous
I know you're dangerous
Oh, I know the broken-hearted sing 'Hallelujah'
Everybody sing 'Hallelujah'
Even though I mean nothing to you
You know it's easy to get me to stay
You know that you'd never fail
You know that it's easy to get me to stay
With you in the belly of the whale
You know I can't be where I am tonight
We're tying a twist in the tale
You know I can't be where I am tonight
With you in the belly of the whale
And I will sing for you
And slow your head down for a little while
Yeah, I will sing for you
Just don't ask me if this is what I want
'Cause I know that you know that it's not
Just don't ask me if this is what I want
'Cause I know that you know that it's not
I begin by saying
You were right
When you suggested
I was looking for some feeling
That wasn't to be found
Except for in the pages
And poetry of ages
All that teenage fury
I hope you wrote that down
I admit that
At the start it shook me
I confess, it took me
Several months of fury
To burn that city down
But now that I am older
My blood seems to run colder
And I don't get that feeling
When you are around
In it's stead, I have steady hands
And in it's place, I am making plans
And in the space where I used to spit and scream
There is measurement of temperament
I cultivate my teenage dreams
So again, into the fray
Again, go see you play
Again, just drum and bass
Again, your perfect face
But I don't care about the future
And all I can say to you
Is I don't want to hurt you
And I don't think that you do
Want for me to search you
For your teenage fury
Now that we are grown
So it stands, a monument
Still there
The same thing, self aware
Just shadows in the dark
My favourite work of art
I think it's finished
Shall we hang it in the gallery?
All that teenage fury
Of my very own
Of my very own
Of my very own
Of my very own
I feel something near
Is it misery or fear
It's a mystery unclear
What am I doing here
A breeze upon my face
Smells sweet as your embrace
A smile across my face
As I think about that place
And I feel like I know
What's going on
Like roses reach to
Kiss the morning dawn
I'm Washington tonight
And all is calm
I'm coming home to you
We're moving on
We rode upon a town
People all around
It's a good place to lay down
And I dream about you now
Holding pictures near
I think of you my dear
My body knows no fear
Yes
Yes, I know
Yes, I know that when you hear this
You'll feel strange, I know
Still out of sight
But I've got this mouth
That's full of dynamite, tonight
Tonight
Lover, you're a soldier
You're a long, long way from home
A long way from your mother
And you do it on your own
I don't belong to you
And you don't belong to me
I don't think we need to
Cos it's just so easy
So I survive
So I just try to get through
And stay alive
You do the same
Do the same
I see you running
Through the rain
Lover, you're a soldier
You're a long, long way from home
A long way from your mother
And you do it on your own
I don't belong to you
And you don't belong to me
I don't think we need to
Cos it's just so easy
I got lucky
When you said sorry
And I couldn't stop now
If I knew how
And if it's true what they say
About love and hard work
Well, alright
Cos maybe people in love
Are all on the same side when they fight
And everyone's raging and railing
And screaming for war
But you haven't got anything
That I would fight you for
To fight you
Lover, you're a soldier
You're a long, long way from home
A long way from your mother
And you do it on your own
I don't belong to you
And you don't belong to me
But I don't think we need to
Cos it's just easy
Lover, you're a soldier
You're a long, long way from home
A long way from your mother
And you do it on your own
We can take our chances
Cos we knew it going in
There'd be lots of dancing
But we'd never, ever play to win
Take me out, take me home, take me anywhere
I walked a hundred miles so I could give a dog a bone.
I'm alright, I don't mind.
I'm just running into something bigger than the something
that I left behind.
Oh my darling (x3), Clementine.
Turn the water (x3) into holy water.
You are restless, very young.
Got a message from your mother,
said to tell you she'll be coming round the mountain when
she comes,
She will be coming round the mountain when she comes.
Oh my darling (x3), Clementine.
Turn the water (x3) into holy water.
Oh my darling (x3), Clementine.
Turn the water (x3) into a little bit more time.
Take me out, take me home, take me anywhere.
I walked a hundred miles so I could hear them play your
song on the radio.

I wanna go to Washington
I wanna meet the president
I'm feeling ten feet tall,
I'm indestructible to ya'll
I wanna go to Washington
I wanna meet the president
I'm on top of the world
I'm indestructible to ya'll
We all have ups and downs
Tough luck or the other way around
Some days are just not meant to be
That's the way it is, so listen to me
I wanna go-go, I wanna go-go now
I wanna go to Washington
I wanna meet the president
I'm feeling ten feet tall,
I'm indestructible to ya'll
I wanna go to Washington
I wanna meet the president
I'm on top of the world
I'm indestructible to ya'll
It's strange when people say
That they are living their lives
Day by day
I'm never satisfied
We've got to reach that all time high
I wanna go-go, I wanna go-go now
I wanna go to...
"I guess that I'm a moody girl. I got my ups and downs. This
is how I feel when I'm on a roll! Just go for it, take some
i've been told a thing or two by you about nothing at all so if you believe in what you say ok, just go away. don't tell me i don't understand we've paid you to put us in the palm of your hand so take your little toys and get outta here don't wanna live in fear washington, you're no fun, you're no fun washington look down the barrel of a gun. i found a suitable spot for you it's underneath this tombstone just for you. you've really had it coming and you know it's true. washington, you're no fun, you're no fun washington, look down the barrel of a gun.
Lord I know,
How it can ache,
The place you go,
Soul at stake.
In your hotel,
Oh,you're Lightwell,
Least you've always got somewhere to go.
And how you reach across the map,
You stretch so far, but you never snap.
In your hotel,
Oh, you're Lightwell,
Least you've always got somewhere to go.
Cause no-ones gonna keep you here,
Nobody tied you to the pier,
There's no-one swimming back to land,
No SOS in the sand,
And lord, you are the brightest light,
The brightest light on the horizon.
Mmhmm x8
Lord it hurts, yeah I know that it hurts like hell,
Lord it hurts, yeah I know that it hurts like hell,
But you do it so well.
So if you don't know,
What I am,
I'll tell you I am a hologram,
In your hotel
Oh, you're Lightwell,
I'm not the saviour of modern religion
Not the messiah, not a magician, I don't know why
But I was not meant for this tropical city
I drive by your house and hope you cannot see me
And I don't know why I keep coming back
Cause it still feels like a heart attack and
Honestly, you know how to pull the devil out of me
You act like it's so easy
You're a one man guy
A one man show
A one man band on the radio
And I'm at that stage where the moon could catch fire
We're down to the wire, we're down to the wire
We're down to the war, we're down to the war
And I've been listening to such terrible thoughts by such terrible people
And I never know who is good and who is evil
Just take what you want, what you want is what I want to give you
And honestly, you know how to pull the devil out of me
You act like it's so easy
You're a one man guy
A one man show
A one man band on the radio
And even though we're just holding on to what you used to know
I'm just keeping on with all my keeping on
Oh, Captain of my industry
Oh, cigarettes and company
I'm never where I want to be:
The dirty, dirty ground
Oh, Halloween! The blood you drew
You carved a space to climb into
And like a lantern, like a pyre
I burn, I burn with holy fire
I talk when I don't have to
And I hope it doesn't matter
'Cause we know what we know
And I don't know how you do it
But I change and you see to it
That we ain't got no show
And all I could see in the ink of the dark
Was your cigarette, breathing like beating heart
I fold mine in, like origami
It might look pretty, but you do not know me
I talk when I don't have to
And I hope it doesn't matter
'Cause we know what we know
And I don't know how you do it
But I change and you see to it
That we ain't got no show
Oh, Halloween! Oh, jealous star
Are you who you say you are?
I thought you would have found me out by now
Oh, Halloween! The blood you drew
You carved a space to climb into
I don't know what I should have seen
Oh, not since Halloween
Oh, not since Halloween
No, not since Halloween
No, not since Halloween
Halloween
All the things you've said
And things you've done
I remember, in memoriam
You said that you did
But you did not
Oh, you ache for something
God knows what
I sing every song I've ever sung
From what we were to what we'll become
And full of hope and electricity
Now I let you make a man of me
What can I do?
What can I do?
What can I do?
Now I am on fire
I believe you
I believe you
I believe you
I believe you, liar
I begin by saying
You were right
When you suggested
I was looking for some feeling
That wasn't to be found
Except for in the pages
And poetry of ages
All that teenage fury
I hope you wrote that down

I wanna be the better man by far
But the air is thin up here
On the higher ground
Above the clouds
You are my fall
And I am your own religion
And I don't know why but I hate you, I hate you
And I don't know how but you keep me staring at your fingers
Fighting with my mind, but you've got someone else in mind
And oh my god, I can't believe it's true
I leave it up, I leave it up to you
And I've got, oh I've got so much time
And I've got, oh I've got so much time
But you've got someone else in mind
And oh my god, I can't believe it's true
I leave it up, oh I leave it up to you
And I've got, oh I've got so much time
Here are the swallows
They live in your guitar
And underneath the lightbulbs
They're swimming in the air
Whisper in my ear
Whisper in my ear
Whisper in my ear
Here is a fire
Impossible to see
Fire in the space between who I am
And who I want to be
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear, ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
Let's go to the river
I will throw all of the others in
Let's go to the river, darling
I will throw all my other lovers in
And when it is over
When all is said in song
All of the swallows, they go back
To the, to the place where they came
They're singing in my ear
Singing in my ear
Singing in my ear
Singing in my ear, ear
Singing in my ear
Singing in my ear
Singing in my ear
Everybody knows your name
But I will sing it just the same
Everybody knows your name
But I will sing it just the same
Let's go to the factory
I will show you where to bury me
Let's go to the factory, darling
I'll show you where all my poems should be
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear, ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear, ear
Sing it in my ear
Sing it in my ear
So, the way that these things go
Often finds me singing in my pillow
And the way that these things are
Often finds me crying in the car
And my love, it is as wide
As my jealousy is bitter and cruel
But it feels like someone died
You are still pretending you're not telling any lies
And I am still pretending I believe you
But this is just a business, and I don't feel any pain
Just as long as no one says your name
And all the years of being broke
And all the spit and all the smoke
And all the fucking, all the drugs
All the love was not enough
You take my guts, I'll take the car
Welcome, stranger, here you are
Never seen your face before now
Welcome, stranger
Nice to meet you
You are still pretending you're not telling any lies
And I am still pretending I believe you
But this is just a business; no, I don't feel any pain
Just as long as no one says your name
Dearly beloved
We're all here tonight
For a similar reason
We're fighting the good fight
But the weather does keep us inside
We haven't known him
For terribly long
But his wall is filled with ghosts
Who are never going to hear
And they're singing
And keeping me sane
And I look out the window
And it's started to rain
So many friends
So many friends
So many friends
And all of you people
Are part of my soul
Cause we are connected
And part of the whole
And I don't have to see you
To know where you are
'Cause we just need some whiskey
And an out-of-tune guitar
So many friends
So many friends
So many friends
Dearly beloved
We're all here tonight
For a similar reason
First of all I was surprised
How you looked into the mirror
I could see the holy spirit there
You saw a dancing bear
You were young and I was younger
I did everything you said
I remember my big sister
I was five and she was ten
Taught me most of what I know
How to swim and play piano
I remember how you held my hand
The first time I heard Graceland
Never had to learn my numbers
Never had to learn to share
On the floor and in the garden
Judy Garland, Fred Astaire
You could be easily me
And I could be easily you
And I know I would be proud
To say it if it were true
And all the things that I've said
And things that I've done to you
You were young and I was younger
I did everything you said
Now I remember my big sister
I was five and she was ten
Why do I see stars at night?
Everyone else sees the light
And how did I come this far?
I'm sure that I can't fly
Why did you say that to me?
Eighty miles out on the sea
And I am built with parts of you
And you are built with parts of me
I think it's strange that the weather doesn't change
When you are beside me
When you are beside me
I make my plans but they don't stay the same
When you are beside me
When you are beside me
Oh Sailor, oh sailor
Take the wheel
Oh sailor, don't measure how I feel
Dance around the fire
Dance around the flame
We settle on the wire
You settle on my name
Take me with you when you go
Now that I know what I know
Cross the waves
Blow the windy tides
