As you may guess, Dexter and Hannah stepped outside again this week for a jaunt on their leads, which went in every direction including the investigations of whatever was discovered on the ground. They are dogs, there life span is somewhat shorter than among fortunate humans.

FRIDAY NIGHT DOG BLOG – Spring Arrives September 6, 2015

Months and seasons seem arbitrary. The seasons especially so. It seems to be that the Wattles have been flowering for some time, and I have tried to capture that phenomenon in photos. So far, I have not heard the cicadas, but they will probably signify summer.

Installing Windows 10 proved more than I had envisaged. As a new system, very few people, and of course least of all me, knew what was going on. I would have to say I was totally deluded in relation to system operator and computer drivers. Through a multitude of missteps, and an odd part of good fortune, my system in now reinstalled. I would like to say that I am now reinvigorated, but that seems far from true. I seemed to have drained away.

Hannah made herself at home from the beginning. Now that seems to be four years ago. Where has the time gone? I imagine chances are that her life has improved, possibly a testament to her optimism.

A good idea perhaps, but I for one am crashed. I am hoping to solve the many problems tomorrow. This may be wishful thinking.

This is the written submission I made. Don’t to under any illusion that I know anything about the grammar relating to verbs, or writing. The 300 word limit imposed discipline on extraneous observations, but I made dreadful mistakes, including of word order , which I have corrected here. I just wanted to be done.

This week we followed a new path to a familiar area. We visited the old mine dam. It was in parts a climb, but we all seemed to be able to take it in our stride. I heard a chain saw and voices through the trees, and it was a good idea to avoid any problems that might otherwise arise.

I have long understood that Dexter and Hannah move through a different sensory landscape than I experience. Or, maybe, I haven’t in reality being separated from their experiences. I am part of their stopping to sniff what they see, and their behavior is casually observed, often with impatience. We point our cameras at both objects and subjects, and it is an arbitrary distinction.

As far as Dexter and Hannah are concerned, there attention can sometimes seem as it is drawn to every blade of grass. There senses often prove more acute, and it is wise to take notice.

I don’t remember having a winter this cold. Sure, this is a limited memory. I have heard stories of other places where it is now and was colder by far.

There are no enough responses for the survey to have any credibility, but recently in conversation I have been masking the assumption that Bureau of Meteorology forecasts are accurate. None of my interlocutors have contradicted the assumption.

FRIDAY NIGHT DOG BLOG: JUPITER AND VENUS July 5, 2015

Apparently it is not uncommon for planetary orbits to seem to merge together. Jupiter and Venus were gradually merging during June unknown to me. Jupiter is twelve times the distance from the Earth than Venus. (I am told that Venus is the larger image.) The convergence occurred on June 30. I had both noticed the two bright objects in the evening sky and it had been brought to my attention. The camera to my surprise was able to catch the images, and in these cases they are not street lights.

Some Thoughts on the Climate Crisis July 3, 2015

I posted comments at Catallaxy, to some expected hostility (perhaps understandable since I transgressed into their territory) but mostly in “dialogue” with Bruce of Newcastle. I am re-posting to keep and add links, and to review what I presented.

FRIDAY NIGHT DOG BLOG: Winter Solstice June 28, 2015

The Winter Solstice came and went this past week. The Southern Hemisphere expression does not seem to be given the same significance as that in the Northern Hemisphere. It is not associated, for example, with Christmas, the dying sun and the rising sun. Still, it may be expected that the weather might start to get warmer from here on. And what will follow?

Can Natural Variation explain Climate Change? June 26, 2015

Climate for many of us is outside our preview. It is said that weather forecasts are accurate up to about five days. If you said to me that 1998 was a particularly hot year, I would have to say I did not notice at the time, and I cannot remember. Although, short of consulting with neighbours, I think it was around that time that one day the trains stopped, got on bus and drove through a flooded highway. I could be wrong.

Last week all of us went out of the dog walk. Dexter and Hannah had new harnesses. Of course, it one thing to have new outfits: it is another to get them into them. There are no instructions, so it is made up. It may not be evident in the photos but it was a break from the routine while following familiar paths.

“Making Sense of Climate Denial” June 8, 2015

Several arguments have been proposed to deny the implications of climate change, its scientific causality and its political implications. Often, and contrary to expectations the proponents of climate science denial are capable scientific and mathematical reasoners. This was supported in this research by Kahan et al. The implication is that scientific denial arises from motivated reasoning. Rather than to be dismissive of others such an observation might illuminate a greater sense of self awareness.
