The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC, 
/ˈeɪpæk/ AY-pak) is a lobbying group that advocates pro-Israel policies to the Congress and Executive Branch of the United States. The current President of AIPAC is Michael Kassen from Fairfield, Connecticut.
Describing itself as "America's Pro-Israel Lobby", AIPAC is a mass-membership, American organization whose members include Democrats, Republicans, and independents. The New York Times calls it "the most important organization affecting America's relationship with Israel." It has been described as one of the most powerful lobbying groups in Washington, DC. Its critics have stated it acts as an agent of the Israeli government with a "stranglehold" on the United States Congress with its power and influence. There is some disagreement as to where AIPAC's agenda lies ideologically. Some critics on the political left allege that AIPAC holds views that are politically conservative in their nature,[citation needed] while AIPAC's membership has also been described as "overwhelmingly Democratic" by conservatives. AIPAC describes itself as a bipartisan organization, and bills it lobbies for in Congress are always jointly sponsored by both a Democrat and Republican.[citation needed]

Lee Whitnum (born June 23, 1960) is an American writer and politician. She is an outspoken critic of Israel and gained notoriety on that issue in the 2010 Connecticut U.S. Senate race. She also takes a hard stand against illegal and legal "white collar" immigration as a way to curtail unemployment. She cites abuses of the H1-B and L1 immigration loopholes as detrimental to the United States by contributing to unemployment.
Whitnum received a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science from the University of Maryland University College[citation needed] and attended Harvard University[citation needed] to graduate with a Master's Degree[citation needed](EdM.) in Administration, Planning and Social Policy.
For twelve years Whitnum worked as a contract software engineer for the United States Army[citation needed] concentrating in the area of Field Artillery.[citation needed]
In 2008, Whitnum ran for Congress in the Fourth Congressional District of Connecticut. Whitnum gathered enough signatures to force a primary with Congressman Jim Himes. Himes easily defeated Whitnum with about 90% of the vote.

Cynthia Ann McKinney (born March 17, 1955) is an American politician and activist. McKinney was a member of the United States House of Representatives as a member of the Democratic Party, she served six terms as a member of the United States House of Representatives. In 2008, the Green Party of the United States nominated McKinney for President of the United States. She was the first African-American woman to have represented Georgia in the House.
In the 1992 election, McKinney was elected in the newly re-created 11th District, and was re-elected in 1994. When her district was redrawn and renumbered due to the Supreme Court of the United States ruling in Miller v. Johnson, McKinney was easily elected from the new 4th District in the 1996 election, and was re-elected twice without substantive opposition.
McKinney was defeated by Denise Majette in the 2002 Democratic primary. Some people believe she was defeated because of Republican crossover voting in Georgia's open primary election, which permits anyone from any party to vote in any party primary and "usually rewards moderate candidates and penalizes those outside the mainstream." Others believe that her defeat was due to her "her controversial profile, which included support for Arab causes and a suggestion that Bush knew in advance of the September 11 attacks."

Reports say US President Barack Obama has strongly slammed the powerful pro-Israel lobby of AIPAC for campaigning against the Iran nuclear deal.
American daily, New York Times, says Obama accused AIPAC of spending millions of dollars in advertising against the deal and spreading false claims about it. The paper says Obama made the remarks at a closed-door meeting with two leaders of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. Obama reportedly told the AIPAC leaders that he intended to hit back hard. On Wednesday, Obama criticized opponents of the nuclear conclusion reached between Iran and the P-five-plus-one as lobbyists planning to disseminate the same hawkish rhetoric that led to the US invasion of Iraq in 2003. The United States will ultimately uphold the nuclear accord with Iran despite intense opposition from Israel and its supporters in Washington, a former US senator and presidential candidate says.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and other pro-Israel lobbying groups in the US, who have spent millions of dollars to scuttle the agreement, are losing their influence in Washington, said Mike Gravel, a former Democratic US senator from Alaska.
“The majority of the American public is for this deal and that AIPAC has spent so much money to try and reverse that, I think is proving that AIPAC is becoming less effective on American policy,” Gravel told Press TV in a phone interview on Wednesday.
“I’m very optimistic that the United States will go ahead and sustain this agreement,” he added.
A new survey has found that a majority of Americans want US lawmakers in Congress to approve the nuclear agreement with Iran.
According to the survey from the University of Maryland released on Tuesday, 55 percent of respondents said Congress should uphold the nuclear accord.
Congress is reviewing the nuclear agreement and is expected to vote to disapprove of it by September 17.
US President Barack Obama says he is confident that the nuclear accord will go forward despite opposition from congressional Republicans. He is only one vote short in the Senate to sustain his veto.
Gravel, who served two terms in Congress from 1969 to 1981, said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fabricated the false accusations that Iran has military objectives in its nuclear program.
“This whole issue is a fabricated issue by Netanyahu that Iran wanted to get the bomb,” Gravel said.
“Iran has never moved to get the bomb, there’s no intelligence organization who has reported that there’s any effort by Iran to acquire the bomb,” he emphasized.
Israel has publicly opposed the nuclear agreement reached between Iran and the P5+1 group -- the United States, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany – in Vienna in mid-July.
Obama has repeatedly criticized Netanyahu for his opposition to the accord and his efforts to block it in Congress.

At the latest Doha Debate held at the prestigious Oxford Union in the United Kingdom on May 1st, two-thirds of the student audience approved a motion claiming that Israel's supporters are stifling Western debate about Israel's actions.
The event at the world famous debating society of Oxford University marked the first time the Doha Debates have been held outside Qatar.
The Debate took place amid mounting controversy over the role of the pro-Israel lobby in the United States and accusations that it has suppressed criticism of Israel - a charge that the lobby vigorously denies.
Norman Finkelstein, an American academic and a leading critic of Israeli policies, argued in favour of the motion claiming that the pro-Israel lobby sows confusion to avoid being held to account. The journalist and writer Andrew Cockburn also supported this view, claiming there are "red lines" in discussing Israel that no politician or journalist in the US would dare cross for fear of being demonised or driven out of public life.
Dr Martin Indyk, former US Ambassador to Israel and Director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, argued strongly against the motion, saying that the recent 'firestorms' around President Carter's book and the Walt and Mearsheimer report are proof of a lively debate on the subject . His fellow panellist David Aaronovitch, the British journalist and broadcaster, dismissed accusations of conspiracy around the lobby and said that there simply isn't a lobby in the UK in the same way that there is in the United States.
A group of students from universities and high schools in Doha travelled to the UK to join students from Oxford to question the speakers.

Lieu, who inappropriately enjoyed an AIPAC-sponsored junket to Israel as the deal was pending, might dangerously fall in line with the Israeli hawks who have been clamoring to bomb Iran....
