Each SAC Spotlight focuses on one of the state Statistical Analysis Centers, with descriptions of
the SAC's relationships with other state agencies, featured research projects and publications, and key personnel. By focusing on one SAC at
a time, we hope to highlight the critical role they all play in analyzing justice information in their state and informing the
development of sound public policy.
Location: The Center for Crime and Justice Policy
within the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas
Year Established: 2003
Number of Staff: 3 (UNLV Department of Criminal Justice faculty)
About the SAC: The Nevada SAC was established in 2003 when legislative authority created the Center for the Analysis of Crime Statistics (CACS) in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). CACS administered the Nevada SAC until 2014 when it was renamed the Center for Crime and Justice Policy (CCJP). The new name better reflects the Center's objectives of advancing public policy, improving professional practices, and educating students in research methods. CCJP works closely with community groups, social service organizations, and criminal justice professionals. The Center is designed to capitalize on the expertise of academic faculty who specialize in all areas of scientific inquiry, policy development, and statistical methodologies. CCJP and the Nevada SAC are also affiliated with the Crowd Management Research Council (CMRC) - one of the few research entities in the United States that works to improve crowd management techniques and strategies. CCJP and the Nevada SAC are funded primarily through grants obtained by SAC staff and research fellows.
