What is AWS Marketplace?

AWS Marketplace is an online store that helps customers find, buy, and immediately start using the software and services they need to build products and run their businesses.  AWS Marketplace complements programs like the Amazon Partner Network and is another example of AWS’s commitment to growing a strong ecosystem of software and solution partners.

Visitors to the marketplace can use AWS Marketplace’s 1-Click deployment to quickly launch pre-configured software and pay only for what they use, by the hour or month.  AWS handles billing and payments, and software charges appear on customers’ AWS bill.

What kind of software and services are available on AWS Marketplace?

AWS Marketplace features many categories including databases, application servers, testing tools, monitoring tools, content management, and business intelligence software.

Customers can select software from well-known vendors such as 10gen, CA, Canonical, Couchbase, Check Point Software, IBM, Microsoft, SAP, and Zend, as well as many widely used open source offerings including Wordpress, Drupal, and MediaWiki.

Who should shop on AWS Marketplace?

People interested in commercial and free IT and business software, including software infrastructure, developer tools, and business applications should visit AWS Marketplace.

Why should I shop on AWS Marketplace?

Finding and deploying software can be hard. AWS Marketplace enables customers to compare options, read reviews, and quickly find the software they want. Once found, they can deploy that software to their own EC2 instance with 1-Click or with popular management tools like the AWS Console.

Software prices are clearly posted on the website and customers can purchase most software immediately, with payment instruments already on file with Amazon Web Services. Software charges appear on the same monthly bill as AWS infrastructure charges.

What do I need to buy software on AWS Marketplace?

Any customer eligible to use AWS products is also able to shop on AWS Marketplace. Customers must have an Amazon EC2 account.

Do I need special technical knowledge to run the software I find on AWS Marketplace?

There are many business products available in the AWS Marketplace, including both SaaS and server-based products. The server-based products may require technical knowledge or IT support to set up and maintain.

Note: The information and tutorials in the Amazon EC2 Getting Started Guide can help you learn what you need to know about EC2 basics.

How is AWS Marketplace different from DevPay?

There are substantial differences between AWS Marketplace and Amazon DevPay. Both help customers buy software that runs on AWS, but AWS Marketplace offers a more comprehensive experience. For software buyers the key differences are:

  • AWS Marketplace offers a more Amazon.com-like shopping experience, simplifying discovery of available software
  • AWS Marketplace products work with other AWS features such as VPC and can be run on Reserved and Spot instances, in addition to normal On Demand Instances
  • AWS Marketplace supports EBS-backed software, where DevPay does not

Additionally, software providers benefit from AWS Marketplace’s marketing outreach and ease of discovery.
