#askjpm

twitter #whalefail or one hell of a fun time reading the q's?
after jpmorgan’s #askjpm hashtag went viral on wednesday, in rushed a deluge from everyone, it seemed, except eager econ majors looking for work. a p.r.. manager asked, perhaps worried, “do you have any self awareness?” an editor at the atlantic, riffing on the london whale trading loss, tweeted, “what’s your favorite type of whale?” many were not so mild. for example: “did you always want to be part of a vast, corrupt criminal enterprise or did you "break bad"?”; “did you have a specific number of people’s lives you needed to ruin before you considered your business model a success?”; “what section of the poor and disenfranchised have you yet to exploit for profit, andhow are you working to address that?”; “why aren’t you in jail for sending a literal ton of gold bullion to Iran in violation of sanctions?”; “when jamie dimon eats babies are they served rare? I understand anything above medium-rare is considered gauche.”

by early wednesday afternoon, the daily beast editor and columnist daniel gross tweeted, “oh my lord, the #askjpm session. will go down as case study in corporate use of social media.” (“bad idea!” company spokesman brian marchiony later told reuters. he declined to comment further when reached by e-mail.) - the new yorker

In Jersey Anything's Legal, So Long as You Don't Get Caught

I have nothing to say about Greg Stillson's re-election in my adopted state that Charles Pierce didn't say better:

31 percent....

That's the percentage of self-identified "liberals" that voted for Chris Christie, essentially endorsing the idea that he should run for president of the United States, since that was the real purpose of the New Jersey gubernatorial election yesterday....[T]he only issue in the election became whether or not you think Chris Christie should run for president. And 31 percent of the liberals who voted assented to that proposition. How the hell did that happen on a night when the state also kicked him squarely in the nuts by overwhelmingly reversing his veto of an increase in the minimum wage, a veto that is the perfect expression of everything Chris Christie stands for as a politician? If you want to know why actual liberalism continues to be a dead parrot in our politics, and why the only real political dynamic in the country revolves around a choice over whether we will drift slowly to the right or stampede headlong in that direction, look to that number. [emphasis mine]

The man who is determined to destroy the best public education system in the country, whose idea of "fixing" the State's pension fund is to avoid funding it during his terms and to leave the mess to his successor, and whose staff didn't deign to answer confidential questions that could have put him a heartbeat away from the Presidency is now the odds-on favorite to be the Republican nominee in 2016. (The previous nominee is already genuflecting in front of him, Whittington-like, which is more than he ever did for the American people.)

In other words: in two years, he's your problem. Too.
