The earliest source to mention Babylon may be a dated tablet of the reign of Sargon of Akkad (ca. 24th century BC short chronology). The so-called "Weidner Chronicle" states that it was Sargon himself who built Babylon "in front of Akkad" (ABC 19:51).
The Eastern Canaan Amorites conquered and settled in Babylon, making it their capital in 1959 BC. From there, the old Babylonian Kingdom was born. The Kingdom then expanded into a mighty Mesopotamian Empire under the rule of its famous king: Hammurabi, sometime in the 18th century BC.
At that time, Babylon flourished and became the cultural and economical capital of the entire Fertile Crescent. It also became the seat of the renown Code of Hammurabi, the first code of law in Human History.
It was the "holy city" of Babylonia approximately 2300 BC, and the seat of the Neo-Babylonian Empire from 612 BC. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon were one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
It has been estimated that Babylon was the largest city in the world from ca. 1770 to 1670 BC, and again between ca. 612 and 320 BC. It was perhaps the first city to reach a population above 200,000.
It is recorded that Babylon's legal system developed a form of negligence law, and Babylon was probably the first culture to develop negligence law. In the common law world, the law of negligence was not fully rediscovered until the 20th century.
The video is a slideshow of pictures, mostly paintings, depicting the city of Babylon.
Some even show an exaggeratingly tall Tower of Babel.
While the Tower of Babel is considered fictional by some, many notable scholars say that it has been influenced by an actual ziggurat: the Etemenanki, built by the 6th century BC Neo-Babylonian dynasty rulers Nabopolassar and Nebuchadnezzar II.

The Destruction of Sennacherib by Lord Byron (read by The Fan of History)
The Assyrian came down like the wolf on the fold,
And his cohorts were gleaming in purple and gold;
And the sheen of their spears was like stars on the sea,
When the blue wave rolls nightly on deep Galilee.
Like the leaves of the forest when Summer is green,
That host with their banners at sunset were seen:
Like the leaves of the forest when Autumn hath blown,
That host on the morrow lay withered and strown.
For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast,
And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed;
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!
And there lay the steed with his nostril all wide,
But through it there rolled not the breath of his pride;
And the foam of his gasping lay white on the turf,
And cold as the spray of the rock-beating surf.
And there lay the rider distorted and pale,
With the dew on his brow, and the rust on his mail:
And the tents were all silent, the banners alone,
The lances unlifted, the trumpet unblown.
And the widows of Ashur are loud in their wail,
And the idols are broke in the temple of Baal;
And the might of the Gentile, unsmote by the sword,
Hath melted like snow in the glance of the Lord.

2) The Septuagint has been misunderstood on dating, due to an issue with adding 100 years, as a result of counting in a different way. By starting with 100 at age 0, it explains the main "issues" with chronology between it and other texts(such as the Hebrew Masoretic)..
3) I think the problem with claiming such a thing as you are here, is that we are making many assumptions when approaching genealogies.. There are actually several methodologies. I looked into the matter, and since there are about 4 or so methodologies, it can become very confusing trying to get them all to match and align.. HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF HOW MESSY IT CAN GET: http://www.ldolphin.org/sewell/sewellchron.html .
With the Septuagint, the extra 100 years on each date is a result of the counting method employed. So, you would actually subtract that 100 years to correlate counting methods, and then it closely aligns with the Masoretic.
4) 400 years of the Early Church, which disappeared in 388 AD when Roman Catholic Church was formulated. The 7 days, could be 700 years.. Which would put it around 1100, around the time of the Great Schism (Rome not over entire Church anymore). There is also another interpretation that puts it around the time of the Reformation.. At any rate, the 400 years seems to make sense to me, because its a "parable" of sorts, not "literal". http://www.hallvworthington.com/getverses.php?search=4%20Esdras%207:28-29;&version;=160;

5) Same as with the Septuagint.. Starting with 100 as 0. A different form of counting.. Of course, we are only taught one form in school, but there are actually many ways to count. So, he would have been 760 years old, which fits with the 7 generation curse and fits the rabbinical tradition of 100 years per generation.
6) So far, every time someone comes up with a "contradiction" its because they are looking for errors or playing off things they can not understand..
James White has an agenda.. He also admits he has his own slant on Greek. his "camp" of interpretation. The fact is, we should be seeking to objectively analyzing things, not making the data fit our view.
James doesn't seem to know Church History, other than whatever has been spoon fed to him in Seminary..
HERE IS THE ANSWER: It has been said by some Higher Critics that this is historically impossible, since Nebuchadnezzar was a Babylonian king who ruled in Babylon. However, historically, Nabopolassar the father of Nebuchadnezzar, conquered Nineveh in 612 B.C., and the Assyrian Empire in 609 B.C., and Nebuchadnezzar after him ruled from Babylon over Nineveh, and over the Assyrians who lived there. The text does not say that Nebuchanezzar ruled in Nineveh, it says he ruled over the Assyrians in the great city of Nineveh. And although Nineveh had been taken from the rulers of the Assyrians, among them Cyaxares/Arphaxad king of the Medes,[6][7] the people still retained their ethnic identity as Assyrians in the great city of Nineveh under the rule of Nebuchadnezzar in Babylon. It was not unusual for conquerors to conscript the armed forces of conquered territories, as did the Babylonians, and the Assyrians before them, and after them Alexander, and Rome at the time of the Republic and the Empire.

சேனைகளின் கர்த்தரின் இதயமும் - Book of Jonah - யோனாவின் இதய கடினமும் - Pastor. Sam Devanesam - The LORD of Host's heart for sinners – The political mind of Jonah - Pastor. Sam Devanesam Message
Jonah’s attitude towards God and Sinners – The Book of Jonah
Tuning our heart according to God’s heart – Matthew5: 43 – 44 – The highest level of a Christian.
Jonah 1: 1-4
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jonah%201&version;=NIV;ERV-TA
Purpose: To Show the extent of God’s grace – The message of salvation for all people.
Jonah was reluctant prophet given mission he found distasteful. He chose to run away from God rather than obey him. Like Jonah, we may have to do many things in life that we don’t want to do. Sometimes we find ourselves wanting to turn and run. But it is better to obey God than to defy him or runaway. Often, in spite of our disobedience, God in His mercy will give us another chance to serve Him when we return to Him.
Setting: Jonah preceded Amos and ministered under Jeroboam II, Israel’s most powerful king (793 – 753; II Kings 14: 23 – 25) before Christ Jesus. Assyria was Israel’s great enemy; it conquered Israel in 722 Before Christ Jesus. Nineveh repentance must have been short lived, for it was destroyed in 612 B.C. Jonah is a historical personality. He is also mentioned by Jesus as a picture of his death and resurrection (Matthew 12: 38 – 42)
KEY VERSE: “But Nineveh has more then 120, 000 people living in spiritual darkness, not to mention all the animals. Shouldn’t I feel sorry for such a great city?” (Jonah 4: 11).
Jonah hated the Assyrians, and he wanted vengeance, not mercy. So he ran the other way. Is it possible to hide from God’s eyes?
As we read Jonah, see the full picture of God’s love and compassion and realize that no one is beyond redemption. The gospel is for all who will repent and believe. Begin to pray for those who seem to be farthest from the Kingdom, and look for ways to tell them about the Salvation in Christ Jesus. Learn from the story of this reluctant prophet and determine to obey God, doing whatever He asks and going wherever He leads.
God’s command to Jonah: Stand – Go – Cry out
Jonah’s response: Contrast in doing God’s will!

Psalms 139, Psalms 94: 11, Ps 33,
Disobedience of Jonah led him to devastation!
How are you doing? What is your role in sharing the love of Christ Jesus to the Nations! Do your part and the rest God will do! Pray – Plan – Participate in God’s ministry.

The nations of the Near East often made their monumental inscriptions and other records in multiple languages. This is to our benefit today since such a practice has greatly assisted our understanding of the various ancient languages of the region. With the rise of Classical Greece came Greek historical and geographical inquiry which, as is apparent from their own records, began in the late 7th century B.C. The Greek writers were first acquainted with their neighbors to the east in the form of the Assyrian empire, which had fallen by 612 B.C., and then even more so with the Persian empire, whose power was consolidated under Cyrus II by 540 B.C. While there were earlier Greek historians and writers of epics historical in nature, along with the many other poets whose works have survived, the first serious prose historian whose work has survived to us is Herodotus, who wrote about 100 years after the death of Cyrus. It may be evident, therefore, that the earliest written Greek accounts concerning the east were influenced by the Assyrians, and later by the Persians and Medes.

A people whom the Greeks called Kimmerians invaded Anatolia from the east (see, for example, the article "King Midas: From Myth to Reality" by G. Kenneth Sams, Archaeology Odyssey, Nov. - Dec. 2001), in or just before the time of Homer, as attested to by Strabo, who relates that "The writers of chronicles make it plain that Homer knew the Cimmerians, in that they fix the date of the invasion of the Cimmerians either a short time before Homer, or else in Homer's own time" (Geography 1.2.9). Dating Homer, there is found a note in the Loeb Classical Library edition Greek Iambic Poetry, p. 35, at Archilochus, 5, where it is related that, as also discussed by Tatian in his Address to the Greeks, 31, Homer was a contemporary of Archilochus, the Iambic Poet who flourished in the 23rd Olympiad (688-685 B.C.) "... at the time of Gyges the Lydian, 500 years after the Trojan War." Strabo relates that, having destroyed the nation of the Phrygians of which the famous Midas was king, the Kimmerians "overran the whole country from the Bosporus to Ionia" and "marched as far as Lydia and Ionia and captured Sardes" (Geography 1.1.10; 1.3.21).

The Medes Old Persian Māda-, Ancient Greek: Μῆδοι, Hebrew: מָדַי) were an ancient Iranian people[N 2] who lived in an area known as Media (North-western Iran and south-east Turkey) and who spoke the Median language. Their arrival to the region is associated with the first wave of migrating Iranic Aryan tribes into Ancient Iran from the late 2nd millennium BCE (circa 1000 BC) (the Bronze Age collapse) through the beginning of the 1st millennium BCE (circa 900 BC).
This period of migration coincided with a power vacuum in the Near East, with the Middle Assyrian Empire (1365-1020 BC) which had dominated north western Iran and eastern Anatolia and the Caucasus going into a comparative decline, allowing new peoples to pass through and settle. In addition, Elam, the dominant power in Ancient Iran was suffering a period of severe weakness, as was Babylonia to the west.
From the 10th to late 7th centuries BCE, the western parts of Media fell under the domination of the vast Neo-Assyrian Empire based in northern Mesopotamia, but which stretched from Cyprus to Ancient Iran, and from the Caucasus to Egypt and Arabia. Assyrian kings such as Tiglath-Pileser III, Sargon II, Sennacherib, Esarhaddon, Ashurbanipal and Ashur-etil-ilani imposed Vassal Treaties upon the Median rulers, and also protected them from predatory raids by marauding Scythian and Cimmerian hordes.
During the reign of Sinsharishkun (622-612 BC) the Assyrian empire, which had been in a state of constant civil war since 626 BC, began to unravel. Subject peoples, such as the Medes, Babylonians, Chaldeans, Egyptians, Scythians, Cimmerians, Lydians and Arameans quietly ceased to pay tribute to Assyria.
An alliance with the Medes and rebelling Babylonians, Scythians, Chaldeans, and Cimmerians, helped the Medes to capture Nineveh in 612 BCE, which resulted in the eventual collapse of the Neo-Assyrian Empire by 605 BC. The Medes were subsequently able to establish their Median kingdom (with Ecbatana as their royal centre) beyond their original homeland and had eventually a territory stretching roughly from northeastern Iran to the Halys River in Anatolia. After the fall of the Assyrian Empire, between 616 BCE and 605 BCE, a unified Median state was formed, which, together with Babylonia, Lydia, and Egypt, became one of the four major powers of the ancient Near East. The Median Empire was transformed into the Medo-Persian Empire in 550 BCE and Cyrus the Great established the Achaemenid Empire. The established one the mightiest empires in the ancient world ruled for 150 years. They contributed a lot the rise of co-existing culture between and amongst various tribes and ethnicities. The 'Federation of Tribes' they established, was later developed into the 'Federation of States' in the modern world.
A few archaeological sites (discovered in the "Median triangle" in western Iran) and textual sources (from contemporary Assyrians and also Greeks in later centuries) provide a brief documentation of the history and culture of the Median state. The Medes had almost the same equipment as the Persians and indeed the dress common to both is not so much Persian as Median. Apart from a few personal names, the language of the Medes is almost entirely unknown. However a number of words from the Median language are still in use, and there are languages being geographically and comparatively traced to the northwestern Iranian language of Median. The Medes had an Ancient Iranian Religion (a form of pre-Zoroastrian Mazdaism or Mithra worshipping) with a priesthood named as "Magi". Later and during the reigns of the last Median kings, the reforms of Zarathustra spread in western Iran.

It was the largest city in the world for some fifty years until, after a bitter period of civil war in Assyria itself, it was sacked by an unusual coalition of former subject peoples, the Babylonians, Medes, Persians, Chaldeans, Scythians and Cimmerians in 612 BC. Its ruins are across the river from the modern-day major city of Mosul, in the Ninawa Governorate of Iraq.

Anatolia, also known by the Latin name of Asia Minor, is considered to be the westernmost extent of Asia. Geographically it encompasses the central uplands of modern Turkey, from the coastal plain of the Aegean Sea east to the mountains on the Armenian border and from the narrow coast of the Black Sea south to the Taurus mountains and Mediterranean coast.
The earliest representations of culture in Anatolia were Stone Age artifacts. The remnants of Bronze Age civilizations such as the Hattian, Akkadian, Assyrian, and Hittite peoples provide us with many examples of the daily lives of its citizens and their trade. After the fall of the Hittites, the new states of Phrygia and Lydia stood strong on the western coast as Greek civilization began to flourish. Only the threat from a distant Persian kingdom prevented them from advancing past their peak of success.
As Persia grew in strength, their system of local government in Anatolia allowed many port cities to grow and to become wealthy. Their governors revolted periodically but did not pose a serious threat. The Greek Alexander the Great finally wrested control of the whole region from Persia in successive battles, proving victorious over the Persian Darius III. After Alexander's death, his conquests were split amongst several of his trusted generals, but were under constant threat of invasion from both the Gauls and other powerful rulers in Pergamon, Pontus, and Egypt. The Seleucid Empire, the largest of Alexander's territories, and which included Anatolia, became involved in a disastrous war with Rome culminating in the battles of Thermopylae and Magnesia. The resulting Treaty of Apamea in (188 BC) saw the Seleucids retreat from Anatolia. The Kingdom of Pergamum and the Republic of Rhodes, Rome's allies in the war, were granted the former Seleucid lands in Anatolia.
Roman control of Anatolia was strengthened by a 'hands off' approach by Rome, allowing local control to govern effectively and providing military protection. In the early 4th century, Constantine the Great established a new administrative centre at Constantinople, and by the end of the 4th century a new eastern empire was established with Constantinople as its capital, referred to by historians as the Byzantine Empire from the original name, Byzantium.
Following the Pre-History period, the period of recorded history produced a more coherent body of work that has passed down to modern times, although history was certainly being recorded long before this time. The development of alphabetised written languages during the preceding Iron Age facilitated this.
Classical Antiquity
The era of Classical Antiquity (c. 700 BC – 600 AD) produced an unprecedented body of literary and scientific writing, much of which has survived to this day and continues to influence modern thought. Politically Anatolia saw the era of regional powers swept away by the clash of two vast empires, first the Persians invading from the east, and then being pushed back by the Greeks advancing from the west.
Medean and Achaemenid (Persian) Empires
Our sources, predominantly Greek historians such as Herodotus, provide many details about Western Anatolia but relatively little about the rest of the area in this era.
Although the Iranian peoples had existed in the area south of the Caspian Sea (Iranian Plateau) from pre-historic times, their major influence began when the Medes united them in 625 BC allowing them to sweep away the Assyrian Empire shortly after, when Cyaxares (625–585 BC) led the invasion in 612 BC.
By this time Lydia had become the predominant power in western Anatolia, although often subject to the former Assyrian control. However Sadyattes (621–609 BC) or (624–610 BC) joined forces with Cyaxares the Mede to drive the Cimmerians out of Anatolia. This alliance was short lived, since his successor Alyattes II (609 or 619 – 560 BC) found himself being attacked by Cyaxares, although the neighbouring king of Cilicia intervened, negotiating a peace in 585 BC, whereby the Halys River in north central Anatolia was established as the Medes' frontier with Lydia. Herodotus writes:
"On the refusal of Alyattes to give up his supplicants when Cyaxares sent to demand them of him, war broke out between the Lydians and the Medes, and continued for five years, with various success. In the course of it the Medes gained many victories over the Lydians, and the Lydians also gained many victories over the Medes."
Achaemenids
The Medean Empire turned out to be short lived (c. 625 – 549 BC). By 550 BC, the Median Empire of eastern Anatolia, which had existed for barely a hundred years, was suddenly torn apart by a Persian rebellion in 553 BC under Cyrus II (Cyrus the Great c. 600 BC or 576–530 BC), overthrowing his grandfather Astyages (585–550 BC) in 550 BC. The Medes then became subject to the Persians.

Arts Documentary hosted by Greg Appel, published by ABC in 2008.
(must see for Bossa Nova lovers) Built on layers of samba rhythms, classical and jazz guitar and poetic lyricism, the Bossa Nova sound was spawned in the beaches and bars of Rio, Brazil in the late 50s, and soon dominated the world's clubs and lounge rooms when anthems like "The Girl from Ipanema" became huge international hits. These seductive songs of love by the ocean are celebrated in this compelling documentary.
Aired on ABC TV and filmed on location around Rio. This documentary features interviews with giants of the genre including Marcos Valle, Carlos Lyra and Sergio Mendes, whose Brazil '66 (and the song "Mas Que Nada") took the Bossa beat to new heights in the late 60s and 70s. Rare live clips of Bossa pioneers Joao and Astrud Gilberto revive the beauty, depth and timeless legacy of the sound that seduced the world.
