A short video of Forest Safari in Bandipur National Park and Tiger Reserve . Bandipur National Park established in 1974 as a Bandipur tiger reserve ,is located in the south Indian state of Karnataka. It was once a private hunting reserve for the Maharaja of the Kingdom of Mysore.
Bandipur National Park is about 80 kilometers from the city of Mysore on the route to a major tourist destination of Ooty. Distance between Bangalore to Bandipur National Park is 217 km. Travel Time by road is about 4 hrs.
Bandipur National Park is flanked by the Kabini river in the north and the Moyar river in the south. The Nugu river runs through the Bandipur forest. The highest point in the Bandipur forest is on a hill called Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta.
Bandipur Wildlife Safari Timings:
Morning 6.00 a.m to 8.00 a.m
Evening 3.00 p.m to 5.00 p.m for one hour Ride.
Bandipur Wildlife Safari Charges:
Indian Nationals - Rs. 300/- per person
Foreign Nationals Rs.1100/- per person
JLR Resort/Jungle Lodges and Resorts are the only Bandipur resorts who are authorised to conduct wildlife safaris inside Bandipur National Park
Recently tiger attacked a villager near Bandipur. Elephant Attack is also very common in Bandipur

HD....A chance visit to Bandipur Jungle lodges and subsequent wildlife safari with JLR vehicle, in the evening of 26 Sep 2013 at Bandpur Reserve Forests, Karnataka, India ...my sincere thanks will no doubt go to the members of JLR for the nice arrangements........well, as an wildlife enthusiast it gave me a rare opportunity to spot a tiger in the wild .. Am happy to share with the event....For few of us, who were in two separate OPEN jeeps, have an opportunity to witness the rare scene ...It was around 6.30 pm and the light was bad..tense moments... .. I could, however be able to cover the event to the best of my ability....Also watch out the frightened deer pack moving out of the area fast when they sense the tiger movement... ..have a look !!!

This week our special episode focuses on Bandipur National Park in Karnataka. Bandipur which part of the Nilgiri Biosphere reserve is part of the belt that has the highest density of tigers in India. The NDTV team was fortunate enough to spot the majestic beast in all its glory. The forests of Bandipur is known for its beautiful landscape used to be a hunting ground of the Maharaja's of Mysore in the past. The tiger reserve in Bandipur was declared a tiger reserve as part of project tiger in 1973. With a variety of flora and fauna these jungles are home to our national animal and its protectors the Special Tiger Protection Force or STPF of Bandipur whom we interact with as they look for snares to prevent poachers from hunting game within the park. The STPF is not equipped well at the moment, although through the Aircel-NDTV Save our tigers campaign the forest department of Bandipur and Nagarhole did receive two rapid response units. We also focus on funding and how corporates like Aircel play a major role in helping forest departments. Man-Animal conflict also is a predominant issue in this park and we look at measures being initiated to combat such issues.

Bandipur (Devanagiri बन्दीपुर) is a hilltop settlement in Tanahu District, (Gandaki Zone) of Nepal. Because of its preserved, old time cultural atmosphere, Bandipur has increasingly been coming to the attention of tourism. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 9952 people living in 1929 individual households.
Bandipur is located at 27.56 N, 84.25 E and an elevation of 1030m on a mountain saddle (Mahabharat range) approximately 700m above the Marsyangdi River Valley, 143 km to the west of Kathmandu and 80 km to the east of Pokhara. Since 1998 it is connected by a 8 km access road from Dumre (Kathmandu-Pokhara highway). Until then there was only an unreliable road, in monsoon usually not accessible or only by tractors. The mountain saddle, just 200m long, is barely wide enough to accommodate the main street lined by 2 –3 storey buildings on either side. At the backsides of these houses the mountainsides steeply descend and the gardens are only accessible by stairs.
Bandipur was established as a funnelling point of trade by Newar traders from Bhaktapur in the Kathmandu valley after it had been conquered in 1768 by Prithvi Narayan Shah. They took advantage of its malaria free location to develop it into an important stop along the India-Tibet trade route. With them they brought their cultural heritage and architecture which basically has remained unchanged to this day.

With a variety of flora and fauna these jungles are home to our national animal and its protectors the Special Tiger Protection Force or STPF of Bandipur whom we interact with as they look for snares to prevent poachers from hunting game within the park. The STPF is not equipped well at the moment, although through the Aircel-NDTV Save our tigers campaign the forest department of Bandipur and Nagarhole did receive two rapid response units. We also focus on funding and how corporates like Aircel play a major role in helping forest departments. Man-Animal conflict also is a predominant issue in this park and we look at measures being initiated to combat such issues.

The NDTV team was fortunate enough to spot the majestic beast in all its glory. The forests of Bandipur is known for its beautiful landscape used to be a hunting ground of the Maharaja's of Mysore in the past. The tiger reserve in Bandipur was declared a tiger reserve as part of project tiger in 1973. A part of the Sathyamangalam Wildlife Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu bordering Karnataka, it was declared a protected tiger reserve in 2013 ... It is surrounded by Mudumalai, Bandipur and BRT Tiger Reserves and serves as a link between them for tiger movement ...
