Most people use their job as a way to get a car. Dorian Valenzuela, however, is not most people: he used his 1970 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1300 Ti to land a job, in this case at Singer Vehicle Design, where he helps create that company's bespoke Porsche 911s. Nor did Valenzuela follow the typical path to a career in the automotive world. While still in university–where he was studying transportation in the hope of one day working on a race team–he applied for an internship at NASA and eventually landed a position at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Valenzuela would go on to spend more than ten years in the aerospace industry and some of his work, in the form of the Mars rovers, can now be seen roaming around that red planet. Always a car enthusiast, Valenzuela spent his evenings and weekends at home wrenching on his Alfa and Porsche 964. One day, needing parts for the Porsche, he responded to an advertisement and found himself walking into the Singer shop, just outside of Los Angeles. The clean, classic builds and attention to detail in the Singer cars immediately resonated with him, as he shared similar goals for his Alfa. Once the folks at Singer got a look at that Alfa, they agreed. Valenzuela soon found himself changing careers, moving from the space age to the world of vintage (or, at least, vintage-looking) cars. Given the time he’s invested in the car and the doors it has opened for him, it’s hardly surprising that this Alfa Romeo has a special place in Valenzuela’s heart. Indeed, as Valenzuela puts it, the car is an extension of him and while he doesn’t consider himself an artist, this car is absolutely a work of art. Alfa Romeo Giulia, very first presentation. Milan. 24.06.15 Press: Alfa Romeo has officially unveiled the highly-anticipated Giulia. Described as "one of the most brilliant examples of automobile excellence," the range-topping Giulia Quadrifoglio features an aggressive front fascia with mesh grille inserts and an Active Aero Splitter which "actively manages downforce for higher performance and better grip even at high speed." The model also has slender headlights, a ventilated hood and front fender vents. Moving further back, we can see aerodynamic side skirts, prominent character lines and attractive alloy wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system. Other highlights include a trunk-mounted spoiler, a rear diffuser and a four-tailpipe exhaust system. Alfa Romeo declined to release interior photos but said the model will have a relatively small steering wheel and premium materials including wood and carbon fiber trim. Power is provided by a turbocharged six-cylinder engine that develops 510 PS (503 bhp / 375 kW) and enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive will be optional. Alfa Romeo was coy on additional information but confirmed the model has a 50/50 weight distribution as well as a carbon fiber hood, roof and propeller shaft. The model also has a number of aluminum components as well as a torque vectoring system and the "most direct steering on the market."

(AP) -- A TV reporter and cameraman were shot to death during a live television interview Wednesday by a gunman who recorded himself carrying out the killings and posted the video on social media after fleeing the scene. Authorities identified the suspect as a journalist who had been fired from the station earlier this year ... He died at a hospital later Wednesday, authorities said ... Family breaks open pregnant teenager's coffin in fear she was buried alive

Relatives of a pregnant Honduran teenager, who had been buried after being pronounced dead at a hospital, broke down her tomb and pulled out her coffin after apparently hearing banging from the inside. Nelsy Perez, 16, was then rushed to a clinic, still lying in her coffin and dressed in the wedding gown she was going to wear when she married the father of her unborn child, but doctors there found no signs of life....
