WILD IN THE PARKS -- VITORIA -- SPAIN
Zabalgana Skatepark -- September 14th 2013
Historically the Spanish Wild In The Parks takes place in Madrid, but this year we decided to move it a bit upper in the north. The decision was good as the Vitoria skateboarding level is quite high, as it's the motherland of some amazing skateboarders like Ibon Mariño, Javier Sarmiento and Dani López.
Dani Lopez was the "premium" contest announcer and his sharp comments were delighting the audience. More than 80 people signed up to compete and as always, all of them had free entry, free drinks, food and a WITP tee shirt gift.
There was so many groms that a special heat was run for the 10 years and under rippers, they had a great time cruising around the park. Marcos Legarra was the outstanding one and got rewarded with Volcom products. Then the first proper tricks were landed with the 14 and under divisions such as some fs ollies over stairs and krooks down the hubbas. Romain Dubourg from France and Larrun Barrenetxea skated consistently but finally, the buddy-ripper from Basauri, Aritza Brazo pulled down a couple of hammers and took the victory.
With the 15 and over category, we are not talking about kids anymore. Adrian Martínez, Guillermo Arbe or the winner Rafael Andrés killed it during the whole final heat, jumping gaps and destroying hips and hubbas.
But the main course had still to come with the Open division. In the final heat we had David Edwards from Lanzarote shooting hammers in every zone. At the end, he got the best trick special prize with a massive bs flip over the big bank. Enrique Giles was also a standout kickfliping the same gap, and Iñigo Rodriguez landed several tricks on the hubbas such as fs 5-0s and more. We could see a classic OG, Xabier Elorriaga with an XL FS biggie on the bank hip, and nosegrind on the wall. Sergio Sánchez skated hard and Andrés Castro from Oviedo showed tons of style with treflips and nollie bs heels on the hip. In the end, on the top three we´ve got Jonatas de Oliveira aka "Lacra". As a good Brazilian he knows how to convince the judges with big pop tricks and tech stuff. He did a good flip 5-o on the big hubba!. On the second position the legend from Vitoria, Ibon Mariño, with fs bluntslides and the incredible transfer 50-50 which left everyone petrified. And the winner was the local ripper Mario López with a huge bag of tricks, fs flip and hardflip over the stairs in zone one, taislides on hubbas and more.
Thanks to everyone who helped out, participants, judges (Will, Hierro and Oskar), Dani speaker, Fernando from Gauekoak, JART, Xsories, Greenwax, Pablo, Iñigo, Mikel and everyone who showed up!. L.T.K.R.F.
