Rita Jeptoo Sitienei (born 15 February 1981 in Eldoret) is a Kenyan marathon runner. She won the 2006 Boston Marathon, setting her personal best of 2:23:38 hours. She has also won marathons in Stockholm and Milan, as well as having represented Kenya in the event at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. She was the bronze medallist at the 2006 IAAF World Road Running Championships.
Jeptoo won the 2004 Stockholm Marathon, her first marathon race, and then took a consecutive victory at the Milan Marathon. She finished third in the 2005 Turin Marathon and seventh at the 2005 World Championships. The next year she competed over shorter distances, taking the title at the Paris Half Marathon and winning the bronze medal at the 2006 World Road Running Championships.
Her personal best time of 2:23:38 hours came at the 2006 Boston Marathon, where she defeated all comers to win the prestigious race. She was fourth at the New York City Marathon that same year. In 2007, she finished fourth in Boston, attempting to defend her title, and was quoted as saying, "I never felt good in the cold. I couldn't get my body in a rhythm." She won the Lisbon Half Marathon and Paris Half Marathon that year, later going on to take seventh place in the marathon at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics. She ended her 2007 with a new course record at the Obudu Ranch International Mountain Race, earning US$50,000 as a result.

Mebrahtom "Meb" Keflezighi (
/ˈmɛb kəˈflɛzɡi/; Ge'ez: መብራህቶም ክፍልእዝጊ mebrāhtōm kifl'igzī; born May 5, 1975 in Asmara, Eritrea) is an American athlete, specializing in long distance running. He and his family were refugees from Eritrea via Italy to the United States, when he was age 12. He began running while in an American Junior High School in San Diego, going on to win both the 1600 meters and 3200 meters at the CIF California State Championships in 1994 for San Diego High School.
The distinction of Meb's homegrown American running history differentiated him from other African-born elite athletes, such as Bernard Lagat, whose change of domicile and citizenship had been for largely competitive reasons. Meb Keflezighi became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1998, the same year in which he graduated from UCLA. While at UCLA Meb received numerous All-American awards and other accolades. He won four NCAA championships during the 1996-97 season, including the cross-country title, the 10,000 meters outdoors and the 5000 meters indoors and outdoors titles in track.

Eliud Kipchoge (born 5 November 1984 in Kapsisiywa, Nandi District) is a Kenyan long distance runner who has won medals at Olympic and World level.
He came to prominence in 2003 by winning the junior race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, setting a world junior record over 5000 metres on the track and then becoming world champion at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics. An Olympic 5000 m bronze for Kenya followed at the 2004 Athens Olympics and he took another bronze at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
A series of silver medals came, starting at the 2007 World Championships in Athletics before another runner-up placing at the 2008 Summer Olympics. He was fifth at the 2009 World Championships but again reached the podium at the 2010 Commonwealth Games; he was second behind Moses Kipsiro in both the 5000 m and 10,000 metres. He has won four medals at editions of the annual IAAF World Athletics Final and is a five-time 5000 m finalist at the World Championships.
His 3000 metres best of 7:27.72 ranks him among the top ten at the distance and his 5000 m best of 12:46.53 makes him the fourth fastest ever in the event.

The doping claims facing two time Chicago marathon champion Rita Jeptoo took a new twist today, after her bitter former husband Noah Busienei , claimed that he witnessed his coach Claudio Berardelli giving Jeptoo tablets and coloured water, which he suspected contained banned substances.
Speaking exclusively to K24 sport, Busienei claimed that this happened in 2011 when he was still training with her, before they parted ways. However his agent Federico Rosa came out strongly to deny the allegations, adding that Claudio who works at his camp in Eldoret did not engage in such vices.

Athletics Kenya has indeed confirmed that it has officially received positive test results of four-time World Major Marathon Champion Rita Jeptoo. Rita, who failed a drug test after winning this year’s Chicago marathon had requested for her b sample to be analyzed. Athletics Kenya announced that it will constitute a committee to discuss that matter early next month. There have been proposals that athletes who fail drug tests be banned for up to four years. Initially, drug cheats sat out for not more than two years. Rita became Kenya’s first high profile athlete to fail a drug test.

Two-time Boston and Chicago marathon champion Rita Jeptoo asked for a B test after failing a test on an A sample taken in September 2014.
According to Athletics Kenya, the athlete who spent most of her day at the headquarters in Nairobi, met AK's Medical and Anti-doping Commission.
At this meeting, Jeptoo was formally notified of the analytical finding from the A sample, whose results were revealed and confirmed by various athletics bodies among them the IAAF.
The athlete then wrote her explanation, and requested for a B sample, which was the procedure as per the world athletics governing body.
AK described Jeptoo as co-operative. The matter was supposed to be treated with confidentiality but sources say that the athlete who was to be crowned with the 2014 world marathon majors title holder may have had the banned EPO in the A sample.
Jeptoo was now on a provisional suspension from competition.

Jeptoo's 2014 campaign has already been on fire, with her winning her third Boston Marathon early in the year and becoming the first woman to defend that title since Catherine Ndereba in 2005.
Jeptoo ran her first career sub 2:20 in last year's Chicago race, the fifth fastest time in Chicago Marathon history.
Sunday's finish marks wins at two major marathons in two consecutive years.
"I'm so happy," she said.
"Rita is in the prime of her career," race director Carey Pinkowski said. "If you look at the running in Boston and the training she's done, she has some very aggressive goals. She's in great shape and is familiar with Chicago, she likes it, she's had success here and that's the formula for records."
Two years ago, Jeptoo was neck-and-neck last year with Atseda Baysa of Ethiopia for a thrilling photo finish. Baysa broke the tape in the end, just milliseconds ahead.
Last year Jeptoo got hers, breaking away from her closest competition well before the final mile.
Baysa was reportedly a late scratch from Sunday's race, but it wasn't immediately clear why she withdrew.

Kenyan marathon runner Rita Jeptoo has become the latest athlete from the country to fail a doping test.
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) informed Athletics Kenya of traces of a banned substance in Jeptoo's 'A' sample.

Marathoner Rita Jeptoo is staring at a long ban after her b sample tested positive
Athletics Kenya this evening received confirmation from the world anti-doping agency’s laboratories that Jeptoo’s b sample confirmed the results found on her a sample. Rita, who failed a drug test after winning this year’s Chicago marathon had requested for her b sample to be analyzed. Athletics Kenya announced that it will constitute a committee to discuss that matter early next month. There have been proposals that athletes who fail drug tests be banned for up to four years. Initially, drug cheats sat out for not more than two years. Rita became Kenya’s first high profile athlete to fail a drug test. Rita Jeptoo asks for B sample testing after failing a test on her A sample
Two-time Boston and Chicago marathon champion Rita Jeptoo asked for a B test after failing a test on an A sample taken in September 2014. According to Athletics Kenya, the athlete who spent most of her day at the headquarters in Nairobi, met AK's Medical and Anti-doping Commission. At this meeting, Jeptoo was formally notified of the analytical finding from the A sample, whose results were revealed and confirmed by various athletics bodies among them the IAAF. The athlete then wrote her explanation, and requested for a B sample, which was the procedure as per the world athletics governing body. AK described Jeptoo as co-operative. The matter was supposed to be treated with confidentiality but sources say that the athlete who was to be crowned with the 2014 world marathon majors title holder may have had the banned EPO in the A sample. Jeptoo was now on a provisional suspension from competition. Jeptoo's 2014 campaign has already been on fire, with her winning her third Boston Marathon early in the year and becoming the first woman to defend that title since Catherine Ndereba in 2005. Jeptoo ran her first career sub 2:20 in last year's Chicago race, the fifth fastest time in Chicago Marathon history. Sunday's finish marks wins at two major marathons in two consecutive years. "I'm so happy," she said. "Rita is in the prime of her career," race director Carey Pinkowski said. "If you look at the running in Boston and the training she's done, she has some very aggressive goals. The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) informed Athletics Kenya of traces of a banned substance in Jeptoo's 'A' sample. An Athletics Kenya statement on the 33-year-old read: "The result of the 'A' sample for the athlete has indicated the presence of prohibited substances." Thirty-six Kenyans have been confirmed as failing tests in the past two years. Moses Kiptanui, one of most successful runners in Kenyan history, claimed last year doping is rife among the country's athletes. Kenyan marathon runners Wilson Loyanae Erupe and Nixon Kiplagat Cherutich tested positive for banned substances in February 2013 and were both suspended for two years by Athletics Kenya. Athletics Kenya said its medical and anti-doping commission will meet next week with Jeptoo "to establish whether she would wish to exercise her right to order for testing of the 'B' sample".
