David Richmond

David Richmond (1748–1818) was an American commissioned officer who served in the American Revolutionary War.

Early years

Richmond, the son of Mayflower descendant Seth Richmond, was born in Taunton, Massachusetts. He married Nancy Davis in 1766.

Richmond had five sons: Joseph, David, Thomas, Samuel and Seth; and four daughters: Lucy, Esther, Lydia and Nancy.

American Revolutionary War Record

From May 1, 1775, to October 1775, Richmond was a Lieutenant in Captain John Field's Company, Colonel Daniel Hitchcock's Regiment.

By December 1776, Richmond was a First Lieutenant in Captain Timothy Vilmarth's Company, Colonel Chad Brown's Regiment. He was appointed Captain on September 30, 1778.

In the summer of 1780, Richmond served one month as a Major.

Post war

Major Richmond moved from Rhode Island and settled at Latham's Corners, Chenango County, New York.

David Richmond (activist)

David Leinail Richmond (April 20, 1941 – December 7, 1990) was a civil rights activist who is best known as a member of the Greensboro Four, a group of African American college students who, on February 1, 1960, sat down at a segregated Woolworth's lunch counter in downtown Greensboro, North Carolina challenging the store's policy of denying service to non-white customers; an event which is credited as gaining national sentiments for the struggle of African-American citizens during the 1960s.

Early life and education

Richmond was born on April 20, 1941 in Greensboro, North Carolina. He grew up in the then rural East White Oaks neighborhood, and received his early education at James B. Dudley High School, where he was known as a well-rounded student who belonged to many clubs and participated in many sports. After graduating from High School, Richmond entered North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in the fall of 1959, where he majored in Business administration and accounting.

David Richmond (American football)

Anthony David Richmond (born April 1, 1987) is a former American football wide receiver. He was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2009. He played college football at San Jose State.

Early years

Richmond attended Garden Grove High school in Garden Grove, California, where he was a standout basketball player. During his senior year he averaged 20.9 ppg and earned MVP honors in the 2005 Orange County All-star game.

College career

Junior college

After enrolling at Santa Ana College, Richmond took up football. He caught one pass in the only game he played in 2005. As a sophomore, Richmond developed into one of the top junior college receivers in America. He had 54 receptions for 842 yards and nine touchdowns. Rivals.com ranked him as the No. 53 junior college recruit in the class of 2007. He chose San Jose State over Idaho, BYU, Iowa State, Oregon and Wyoming.

San Jose State

In his first year at San Jose State, Richmond caught 55 passes for 852 yards and three touchdowns. He had three 100-yard games, including a 180-yard performance against Utah State in which he caught 10 passes and two touchdowns. As a senior, Richmond had 72 receptions for 832 yards and seven touchdowns to earn second team All-WAC honors. He was the only San Jose State receiver with more than 25 receptions on the season, and his seven receiving touchdowns accounted for 58 percent of the Spartans production. After the 2008 season, Richmond was selected to play in the 2009 Texas vs The Nation All-Star Classic, where he had three receptions for 37 yards for the Texas team.

David of Bulgaria

David (Bulgarian: Давид) (died 976) was a Bulgarian noble, brother of Emperor Samuel and eldest son of komes Nicholas. After the disastrous invasion of Rus' armies and the fall of North-eastern Bulgaria under Byzantine occupation in 971, he and his three younger brothers took the lead of the defence of the country. They executed their power together and each of them governed and defended a separate region. He ruled the southern-most parts of the realm from Prespa and Kastoria and was responsible for the defence the dangerous borders with Thessalonica and Thessaly. In 976 he participated in the major assault against the Byzantine Empire but was killed by vagrant Vlachs between Prespa and Kostur.

However, there's also another version about David’s origin. David gains the title "comes" during his service in the Byzantine army which recruited many Armenians from the Eastern region of the empire. The 11th-century historian Stepanos Asoghik wrote that Samuel had one brother, and they were Armenians from the district Derjan. This version is supported by the historians Nicholas Adontz, Jordan Ivanov, and Samuil's Inscription where it’s said that Samuel’s brother is David. Also, the historians Yahya and Al Makin clearly distinguish the race of Samuel and David (the Comitopouli) from the one of Moses and Aaron (the royal race):

David, Chiriquí

David (Spanish pronunciation: [daˈβið]) officially San José de David is a city and corregimiento located in the west of Panama. It is the capital of the province of Chiriquí and has an estimated population of 144,858 inhabitants as confirmed in 2013. It is a relatively affluent city with a firmly established, dominant middle class and a very low unemployment and poverty index. The Pan-American Highway is a popular route to David.

The development of the banking sector, public construction works such as the expansion of the airport and the David-Boquete highway alongside the growth of commercial activity in the city have increased its prominence as one of the fastest growing regions in the country. The city is currently the economic center of the Chiriqui province and produces more than half the gross domestic product of the province, which totals 2.1 billion. It is known for being the third-largest city in the country both in population and by GDP and for being the largest city in Western Panama.

David (Bernini)

David is a life-size marble sculpture by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The sculpture was one of many commissions to decorate the villa of Bernini's patron Cardinal Scipione Borghese – where it still resides today, as part of the Galleria Borghese It was completed in the course of seven months from 1623 to 1624.

The subject of the work is the biblical David, about to throw the stone that will bring down Goliath, which will allow David to behead him. Compared to earlier works on the same theme (notably the David of Michelangelo), the sculpture broke new ground in its implied movement and its psychological intensity.

Background

Between 1618 and 1625 Bernini was commissioned to undertake various sculptural work for the villa of one of his patrons, Cardinal Scipione Borghese. In 1623 – only yet 24 years old – he was working on the sculpture of Apollo and Daphne, when, for unknown reasons, he abandoned this project to start work on the David. According to records of payment, Bernini had started on the sculpture by mid–1623, and his contemporary biographer, Filippo Baldinucci, states that he finished it in seven months.
