UAL Meets Richard Deacon at the Monday Night Lecture Series
On February 21, 2014, UK artist Richard Deacon joined German film director Claudia Schmid in Toronto for the world premiere of the documentary Richard Deacon -- In Between. This video documents a post-premiere discussion between Deacon, Schmid and Toronto gallerist Benjamin Diaz of Diaz Contemporary. Richard Deacon, one of contemporary art's most important sculptors, has an interest in space and pushing the limits of material, leading to works with a profound sense of movement and complexity. Director Claudia Schmid spent two years observing Deacon and his work, resulting in her intimate portrait of the notoriously shy artist. This event was part of the 2014 Reel Artists Film Festival, a program of the Canadian Art Foundation. For more information, visit http://canadianart.ca/raff.

From WTTG channel 5 in Washington DC. Had this for a while but haven't been able to play it til now because tape was a crappy Scotch brand with 'sticky-shed syndrome'. The supply reel stuck when played on a normal machine; I was going to take the time to play it with the VCR and tape cover removed and turn the reel by hand, but I got ahold of an industrial model SLO-1800 Betamax which played it with much fewer problems. There were still a couple spots where the head clogged, so I had to stop the tape and run a newer movie tape for a few seconds then continue, then seamlessly edit those stops out. Bet you can't spot them! Guests include Bob Barker, Patty Duke Astin. Fannie Flagg and Richard Deacon along with the regulars. Commercials include: 8:07 WTTG Six Million Dollar Man promo 8...
