Glynis Barber-Brandon (born Glynis van der Riet; 25 October 1955) is a South African-born British actress of Afrikaner descent. When she was five years old, her parents divorced, and she and her mother moved to Johannesburg. She is best known for her portrayals of Soolin in Blake's 7, Sgt. Harriet Makepeace in the British police drama Dempsey and Makepeace, Fiona Brake in Night and Day, DCI Grace Barraclough in Emmerdale and Glenda Mitchell in EastEnders.
She studied at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. Acting since 1978, her popular breakthrough came in 1981 with her role as Soolin in the BBC science fiction television series Blake's 7.
In 1982 she took the title role in the television series Jane playing a World War II heroine. This series was filmed against a blue screen allowing for the addition of a cartoon background, an experimental technique in its day. However, Barber is best known for her mid-1980s role of Sgt. Harriet Makepeace in the British police drama Dempsey and Makepeace, where she met her future husband, Michael Brandon.

There's a lot of episodes missing in that first part...parts 2, 3 and 4 are complete.I couldn't do any better with the quality either... thanks to the people who put the full episodes on line in the first place!! If by any chance anyone out there have episodes 10 to 96, please get in touch!
This is the first part of the infamous Dennis Potter drama that was only ever screened once way back in 1988. I recorded it on my clunky VHS player when it was broadcast on BBC2 and it has only taken 25 years to transfer it onto DVD and then onto YouTube! Dennis Potter was a genius and this is one of his rarely known or seen pieces of work. Glynis, Michael & co filmed this in Umbria, Italy in the summer of 1987 and apparently had an amazing filming experience in this beautiful part of the world. I believe it is easily the best quality work that Glynis has ever been offered and I really hope you enjoy this first part.

The second series of BBC 2's adaption of the classic Daily Mirror comic strip 'Jane' starring Glynis Barber. Sorry for the foreign subtitles but this version seems to be the only one available anywhere. And in case you didn't know, series one can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1kqO4nH8hA As much as I would love to see this show come to DVD, as far as I am aware, that will never happen as Glynis Barber, apparently, purchased the rights and master tapes for the series and then promptly had them destroyed! I guess she didn't like it for some reason...? Can't understand why as it's quite simply brilliant, IMO! If anyone could confirm or clarify this story I would love to hear about it...
