Coffee is a brewed beverage with a bitter flavor prepared from the roasted seeds of the coffee plant. The beans are found in coffee cherries, which grow on trees cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in equatorial Latin America, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Africa. Green (unroasted) coffee is one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world. Coffee can have a stimulating effect on humans due to its caffeine content. It is one of the most-consumed beverages in the world.
Wild coffee's energizing effect was likely first discovered in the northeast region of Ethiopia. Coffee cultivation first took place in southern Arabia; the earliest credible evidence of coffee drinking appears in the middle of the 15th century in the Sufi shrines of Yemen. From the Muslim world, coffee consumption and cultivation spread to India, to Italy, and on to the rest of Europe, Indonesia and the Americas.
In East Africa and Yemen, coffee was used in native religious ceremonies that competed with the Christian Church. As a result, the Ethiopian Church banned its secular consumption until the reign of Emperor Menelik II of Ethiopia. The beverage was also banned in Ottoman Turkey during the 17th century for political reasons and was associated with rebellious political activities in Europe.

It ain't yo car till the last payment is made!
Grind me down on a beach in New Orleans
I'll never let you snore
Shake like a snake in a clutch of moon shiver
Sparkle like a capital floor
You and me get cough-y out to see
Any bone black we can find
Floating underground with your double sugar
Smackin' my mind
I got a pain in my mug
The rain drips and bombs
Never gonna fall into bed
I've gotta spit out some psalms
Like this one
Cough-y
Gonna fill the cups up
Break my habit I'll send you a-shimmer
Never gonna hiss me again
You and Joe dressed in a steam locomotive
You can be my only friends
It's been cool just shakin' with you
And walkin' in the streetwise light
Stumble in the back of my mid
We're stayin' cough-y all night
Well, I call my woman, Coffee,
'Cause she grinds so fine.
I call my woman, Coffee,
'Cause she grinds so fine.
She's like a percolator,
She's ready any time.
She's no ground-round virgin.
She's smooth as she can be.
She's no ground-round virgin.
I said she's as smooth as she can be.
She's a fresh-roasted mamma,
When she gives her love to me.
She's no high-class woman,
But I don't need no fox.
She's no high-class woman,
But, buddy, I don't need no fox.
When she wakes up in the mornin',
I'm the only male in her box.
That's why I call my woman, Coffee,
Because she grinds so fine.
Yeah, I call my woman, Coffee,
Because she grinds so fine.
She's no high-class a-woman,
There's plenty of time left tonight
I promised I'd have you home before daylight
We do the best we can in a small town
Act like big city kids when the sun goes down
If it's not too late for coffee
I'll be at your place in ten
We'll hit that all night diner
And then we'll see
There's so many things I have to say
I'll stay up all night to hear about your day
We do the best we can in a small town
Act like kids in love when the sun goes down
If it's not too late for coffee
I'll be at your place in ten
We'll hit that all night diner
And then we'll see
There's a love that transcends
All that we've known of ourselves
And I'll wait for it to come
I'll wait for it to come
Well it's got to be strong to touch my heart
Through its shell
And I'll wait for it to come
I'll wait for it to come
If it's not too late for coffee
I'll be at your place in ten
We'll hit that all night diner
And then we'll see
There's a love that transcends
All that we've known of ourselves
And I'll wait for it to come
I'll wait for it to come
Well it's got to be strong to touch my heart
Through its shell
And I'll wait for it to come
I'll wait for it to come
If it's not too late for coffee
I'll be at your place in ten
We'll hit that all night diner
And then we'll see
There's a love that transcends
All that we've known of ourselves
And I'll wait for it to come
I'll wait for it to come
Well it's got to be strong to touch my heart
Through its shell
And I'll wait for it to come
Have a cup of coffee, sit back and open up your mind
Now this type of rhyme was designed to keep writers above the line
Cause I'll guide us above the swine, and keep the gate up for traitors
While beats cater to cut-creators and fader operators
From Decatur to Kendall, the terminator to pencils and pens
More to the P than the Rentals were friends
But that be dated like them leaders of cheers be under beers
I've contracted calendars to number your years
I put pressure on motherfuckers like 300 lb. Peers
Like a captain on blank pages, I'm steering clear
Whether weather's ever severe, I'll bring ya to mass with the classics
Stopping the wack shit just like naked bitches in traffic
I'm graphic by design, Illustrated like sports without the swimwear
Between her wet thighs is where your bitch be feeling my chin hair
You know I had to go there cause I've been there
I'll Spice your Girl up, that's what I really really want
Now, we can talk coffee like Linda Richman
I'll fold your style, and I'll switch then
take your picture just like I'm Pitman
Throw in Danny Glover to Crispin, it's all related
Sank-a titanic crew now their records be inundated
It's all correlated, everything that I've stated
I speed up Metabolisms while you be decaffeinated
Known for leaving ya satiated, I'm delegated
Representatives in my House ain't thirsty cause I'm Irrigated
Niggas get irritated, Hate it when I'm elated
They're pained cause I pull em down more than windows get shaded
Cause they've evaded the sun and concentrated on the gun
But if I crack em open-if they're see through, I'll breeze through
Adversaries that's even tinted. I've got a penance for pennants
So if you dirty seconds, I'ma clean a minute
Even though, I'd cream the senate, I still don't PUFF laws
Or blow out judiciary committees within the city
And I'm pretty confident, that with these pronouns and consonants
I'll rapture the heavens and all the seven global continents
And I'm in this, Breaking up the plates just like some Greeks in Pangea
Even if they're dubs for the clubs
And I'm off a level that I even out on my own
But, I've been known to take it over the top, like Stallone
So, when the road be getting Rocky and I'm hanging from cliffs
I'm locking out the daylight, and then I hit 'em with this
I keep it on and on and, you, it don't stop
You'd better protect your 7-UP because I'm blowing up the spot
So, I keep it bubbling, so da niggas'll know the half between the boring and me
It's cause I got the pep, see?
If these kids is rhyming 'bout Coke, then I'ma keep my Tab on 'em
They can't Dye-it Right, that's why all of the skags want 'em
I'm icing more niggas at their peaks than a mountain do
Maintenance at the Fontainebleau's all they're amounting to
Rip ya to bits for the sake of counting you, leave ya wound in two
Bounding your throat and make guesstimations about the sound of you
Doggin', but never hounding you, that's just too easy
That threatening style of rhyme never appeased me
So I prefer to squeeze the
Last drop out of metaphors and similes Like they was a squeegee
I've got more game than E3, I never saw E.T
But you I still phone home- Don't fuck around within the Tonedeff zone
Because you bound to get your whole set thrown, Hoes get stoned
I'll repossess your shit and then your clothes get loaned
Cause no army can salvage you when you push me
I'd lay you out Quick, but that's a bigger turn off than bushy pussy
So, I spread the fly vibe like eagles with butterknives
Now you can dissect that line, and three definitions you'll find
With some repetitions and time, you're bound to catch on
But those who don't are getting beat by the beast like Gaston
And lyrically that's the beauty of it... I pull back heads like Pez
Cause I was hand-picked by Juan Valdez
Not the number, but the name you call, and I'll be coming when
COFFEE
You asked the question
Can I come in for coffee
I thought this could never be
I thought for a minute, then smiled for a second
? Cause you're just my cup of tea
The coffee was steaming
And I, I was dreaming
You take me to boiling point
Your lips starting kissing, my heart started missing
We damn nearly wrecked the joint
Like a dream
You held my body tight (You held my body tight)
Like caffeine
You kept me up all night
Chorus
I like my men
Like I like my coffee
Hot, strong and sweet like toffee
Oh! So you know that I can't let you go
I like my men
Like I like my coffee
Hot, strong and sweet like toffee
Oh! And I know that I can't let you go
I thought that maybe
I'd slept like a baby
And last night was just a dream
Then in walked my lover
And pulled back the covers
Cause I like my coffee with cream
Then I felt a stirring deep inside
(you stir me up inside)
Fill my cup, till it's flowing down the side
Chorus
Men like my coffee
Really turn me on
Sometimes expresso
Sometimes he's too strong
Then there's Costa Rican
Mellow but he's rich
But never give me instant
'Cause baby... he's too quick
Like a dream
You held my body tight (You held my body tight)
Like caffeine
You kept me up all night (You kept me up all night)
A cup of coffee in the morning and I get the paper
I check the headlines and decide that I am bored
I check my email and decide to answer later
Another cup of coffee and I drag myself to work
My life is grounded in a firm routine
Of coffee sleep and work
I am not boring, I just stick to what I know
I'm sitting there at work and I realized I forgot to wake up
Can't be productive when I'm dreaming 'bout a sheep
I go upstairs and get myself another cup of coffee
I get downstairs and then I spill it on the floor
My life is grounded in a firm routine
Of coffee sleep and work
I am not boring, I just stick to what I know
(solo)
Rockabye baby, on the tree top
Lunch hour's over, and I can't stay up
I wanna drink coffee, but that's a mistake
I best switch to decaf or I'll stay awake
My life is grounded in a firm routine
Of coffee sleep and work
Breathe in, this air is laced with doubt,
Tonight’s just one more slip were blaming on the sun again,
And again, and again.
And I know all that’s left to say we’ve said it all before
Just different ways the same mistakes,
Caress our lips from mine to yours
Into a kiss were never sure just what we’ve done.
And the taste of coffee draws your lips
As your waist attacks my finger tips
And I know, I know, that you’re loving it.
You say no, but you know, that you’re loving it.
She kissed me back and grabbed my wrist
She put in places I just kissed and I know,
I know this is what I missed and you know,
You know I’m just one more on your list.
You are forbidden just like fruit,
Tempting at nicotine no patch or gum can cure your gravity.
It pulls me. And I’ll wait anticipation kills,
Vibrations numb my legs I grab it quick just to hear you say
“Let’s find a bridge and watch the stars, lay back on the hood of your car,
And freeze tonight.”
And the serums made from summer love
Have made there way into my lungs your gone, you’re gone.
I try and try to catch my breath
But the scent you left in my chest is too strong, go. Yeah.
And the taste of coffee draws your lips
As your waist attacks my finger tips
And I know, I know, that you’re loving it.
You say no, but you know, that you’re loving it.
She kissed me back and grabbed my wrist
She put in places I just kissed and I know,
I know this is what I missed and you know,
You know I’m just one more yeah.
And the taste of coffee draws your lips
As your waist attacks my finger tips
And I know, I know, that you’re loving it.
You say no, but you know, that you’re loving it.
She kissed me back and grabbed my wrist
She put in places I just kissed and I know,
I know this is what I missed and you know,
would you like to meet me for coffee
and talk for a while
cause time hasn't changed my mind
i need a funaral or a revival
both ways i'll smile
but i can't sill pretend that i
dont have a crush on you
you were everything i wanted
when i was eighteen
perfect in every way
then you left the church
and the rumours were plenty
i know they weren't all empty
but i'm tired of pretending that i
Wait, till I get home
Before you walk out my life
Shuffle all your cloth
Before you walk out that door
I'll be waiting for something real
Or until I see the lights
the mystery boys and that plan we made
Keeps me stuck in that damn hotel
But ill be holding on to things that I can not change
Without you I don't think I can make it on my own
Take me, to the bar tonight
Stay out till the cocaine's gone
I don't remember what you said
Or why I treated you so bad
I'll be waiting for something real
Or until I see the lights
the mystery boys and that plan we made
Keeps me stuck in that damn hotel
But ill be holding on to things that I can not change
Without you I don't think I can make it on my own
I see the lights
Maybe it's that bottle of wine
So until you come around
Then I'll take that coffee now
Because I don't think I can wait until the end
I don't need no help
I can feel helpless on my own
I don't need no help I can feel helpless on my own
Why you do me right
I do you wrong only do you wrong
Because these women believe but I only leave
So go doll leave me alone
She got married on the 4th
Divorced of course and now she's on her own
Come back home to her mothers arms
Sleep on the living room floor
Where that dress her hairs a mess
Makeup on the dresser drawer
Although the love is gone
You'll find someone but you don't know what your doing it for
And all the plans we had
Where did they go?
Didn't you say you need me so much
So much
I see the lights
Maybe it's that bottle of wine
So until you come around
Then ill take that coffee now
I see the lights
Maybe it's that bottle of wine
So until you come around
chorus:
we don't need no walkie-talkies, nope no walkie talkies, we don't need your coughing when offing the morning coffee, no, we don't need no walkie-talkies, nope no walkie-talkies we just want our hermitry to stay and our coffee to go
and the last shall be, first to immerse in the pass out heat, face in the mud where the moxie melt 'til he woke up drowning in tsatke hell, more in a cave with a torch on the wall than a window arrangement of porcelain dolls on a brand new day, saw what he saw, property owners who crawl to the mall, with a bad toupee and a face like he author the law, pace like he mourning a loss, right hand on a can of worms, left full of gold he will trade for turf, i mean thats o.k., you got to answer to you at the end of the volatile day, but a model of mercy and might? no way, marionette who will clap and obey, dude, look, all that noise? call that flight of the water boys, meet and greet and they all slap five, cheek to cheek when they colonize, and a grown ass man shall abide as he wish, walk that path with a dime and a stick, walk that path with a diamond and wine, walk that path to the firing line, just walk, pay no mind to the new recruit with the play-doh spine, let's be friends from opposite ends, wave to the kid don't hop on the fence, play to the radius far and away, orbit wide don't park in his space, one little martyr who talk in his face make one little weathermen sharpen the blades.
chorus
and the last shall be, first to the curb with the mad cow meat, face in the bars of a regular cell when he woke up high in collectible hell, boom town kid who was taught by the binge that a man who expire with the most shit win, that's warpy american nonsense penned by the rich, not a routine friend in a pinch, still not used to the stench, how it throws off otherwise lucid events, in the case the afraid observe i got a pro-keds box full of layman's terms, it goes hey, peace, pray for the plagued, major relief and capacious rains, but just cuz i don't want to war with you, it don't mean go warm up the barbecue, i'm like pardon you, sawed off limit, my high noon is a quick little minute, i don't wanna spend it sitting with a critic, who simply isn't going to ever really get it, this HQ is alive and alone, no driveway no sign of a home, no dial tone, no line for the phone, no world's tiniest violin song, and i might just lie to them all, lie in the morgue with a deep breath hiding and bored, fighting a smile, highly annoyed, when the timing is right i will rise and record, cal for the monster beats and blockhead got animal drums like he's doctor teeth, it goes red light green light 1 2 3, one large coffee, fuck you, peace.
john darnielle:
I’d rather stay inside than being out tonight
Just sipping coffee and nothing to look forward to
Savoring my solitude
And no one will ever know you the way I do
In high definition I’m dreaming of you
With my disposition I’m losing my cool
With my everything I’d give anything to be with you
And I will try my best to let it subside
I’m letting go without taking any part of
Something what my heart truly wants
And no one will ever see you the way I do
In high definition I’m dreaming of you
With my disposition I’m losing my cool
With my everything I’d give anything to be with you
[instrumental]
In high definition I’m dreaming of you
With my disposition I’m losing my cool
Gotta serve it to me hot
Just like I like my coffee
It's keeping me from sleeping on my job
Just like I like my coffee
Serve it to me tall, strong and dark
Just like I like my coffee
That's the way I like my man
That's how you gotta love me
That's the way I like my coffee
It's like the way you wake me up, like Folgers in my cup
You get me all excited, I'm thinking 'bout how you do your
Slow, steady serve, the way that I prefer
Go back to where we were, I always remember
Way you pour your love, I can't get enough
I think that I'm in love, baby, let me get a refill
Still you play my mind, you keep me on my prime
I'm so glad you're mine, I think that I'm addicted
Gotta serve it to me hot
Just like I like my coffee
It's keeping me from sleeping on my job
Just like I like my coffee
Serve it to me tall, strong and dark
Just like I like my coffee
That's the way I like my man
That's how you gotta love me
That's the way I like my coffee
You see it on my face, my heart about to race
I'm trying to keep the peace, make me wanna get a taste that
Dark creamy love, right on the spot, good to the last drop
How you keep it up is a mystery but it's right for me
I need it in the morning on the crack of dawning
Gets me going so keep it flowing
And make no mistake, no debate
Need that coffee please
Gotta serve it to me hot
Just like I like my coffee
It's keeping me from sleeping on my job
Just like I like my coffee
Serve it to me tall, strong and dark
Just like I like my coffee
That's the way I like my man
That's how you gotta love me
That's the way I like my coffee
Oh-oh, just keep me moving
Sooner or later, I might need that fix
You know just what you're doing
Piling brown sugar all up in my mix
First round at the table
Put it down on the couch back
Yeah, it's going down like that
Black, as a matter of fact
I keep it clean but you know what I mean
Gotta serve it to me hot
Just like I like my coffee
It's keeping me from sleeping on my job
Just like I like my coffee
Serve it to me tall, strong and dark
Just like I like my coffee
That's the way I like my man
That's how you gotta love me
That's the way I like my coffee
Oh yeah, like that
Serve it to me like that
Yeah baby
