The Miss America pageant is a long-standing competition which awards scholarships to young women from the 50 states plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. The winner of the national pageant is awarded the title of "Miss America" for one year.
The pageant originated as a beauty contest in 1921, but now prefers to avoid this term since Swimsuit and Evening Wear comprise 35 percent of the overall score used to judge contestants. The pageant began in Atlantic City, New Jersey and was held there each year in September through 2004 (except for the year 2001, when it was held on October 14).
In January 2006, the pageant moved to its new home and time in Las Vegas, Nevada. The pageant presents itself as a "scholarship pageant," and the primary prizes for the winner and her runners-up are scholarships to the institution of her choice. The Miss America Scholarship program, along with its local and state affiliates, is the largest provider of scholarship money to young women in the United States and in the world. In 2006 it made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. Since most of the contestants are college graduates already, or on the verge of graduating, most of their prize money is devoted to graduate school or professional school, or to pay off student loans for courses already taken.

It's an ooh-la-lalapalooza!
I love America, her secret's safe with me
And I know her wicked ways
The parts you never see
Oh super-girl, you'll be my super-model
Although you have a reputation
Can I afford to move above my station
I'm not the only heart you've conquered
And I love America, but boy can she be cruel
And I know how tall she is
Without her platform shoes
Oh super-girl, you'll be my super-model
Although at times it might seem awkward
Don't run away, oh don't you recognize me
I'm not the only heart you've conquered
And I kissed America, when she was fleecing me
She knows I understand that she needs to be free
And I miss America and sometimes she does too
And sometimes I think of her
When she is fucking you
I love America
Yo siempre he confiado en ti [=I have always trusted you]
I love America
Por que me tratas asi? [=Why do you treat me like this?]
Oh super-girl, you'll be my super-model
Although your pants are round your ankles
And when you're down, I'll be your Dirty Harry
It will be just like in the movies
Oh super-girl, you'll be my super-model
Although at times it might seem awkward
Don't look away, I'll be your teenage fanclub
Hello mother, it's been long
I'm still here fighting, be proud of your son
My friends are dying
And I just wanna come home
The stars are under a different sky
Your prayers must be working 'cause I'm still alive
This place is so cold
And I just wanna come home
I'm fighting, I'm bleeding
I know what's coming but I'm still breathing
Not giving up, not losing love
Not running away, I'm not afraid
I'm Miss America, my Miss America
When does the fighting end?
Where does the freedom begin?
Hey there, love, how have the kids been?
Wish I could be there to tuck them in
But freedom is calling
While your tears are falling
I've seen lines broke in two
Through these eyes red white and blue
I know why I'm here
Still I just wanna go home
I'm fighting, I'm bleeding
I know what's coming but I'm still breathing
Not giving up, not losing love
Not running away, I'm not afraid
I'm Miss America, my Miss America
When does the fighting end?
Where does the freedom begin? Oh
My hair stands on its end
Chilling thoughts as I defend
Running for cover, take cover, my brother
To die another day as that man I yet waste
Hey there, son, it's your time to go
I'm so proud more than you'll know
But freedom ain't free
And now you're just like me, yeah
I'm fighting, I'm bleeding
I know what's coming but I'm still breathing
Not giving up, not losing love
Not running away, I'm not afraid
I'm Miss America, my Miss America
When does the fighting end?
Where does the freedom begin? Whoa
Where does the freedom begin? Whoa
I'm Miss America, my Miss America
When does the fighting end?
You were the apple of the public's eye
As you cut the ribbon at the local mall
A mirage for both you and us
How can it be real?
We loved your body in that photograph
Your home state sure must be proud
The queen of the United States
Have you lost your crown?
Chorus: Well aren't you, Miss America
Don't you, Miss America
Won't you, Miss America our love?
Are you really who we think you are
Or does your smile seem to wear your down
Is the girl who you once were
Screaming to jump out?
Is the dream that you must live
A disease for which there is no cure
This rollercoaster ride you're on
Won't stop to let you off
Chorus: Well aren't you, Miss America
Don't you, Miss America
Won't you, Miss America our love?
Well it's true just take a look
The cover sometimes makes the book
And the judges did they ever ask
To read between your lines?
In your cage at the human zoo
They all stop to look at you
Next year what will you do
When you have been forgotten?
Chorus: Well aren't you, Miss America
Don't you, Miss America
Won't you, Miss America our love?
Lyrics by: James Young
How could he take you in his arms
And help you to be free
Then leave you forgotten
And is it enough to cry
When you're so broken
Her cold eyes tell you that you're not welcome
She tells lies but you'll take her back again
And is it enough to die
When you're so taken
You will be loved again
You will be loved again
But will she sing and will she dance
And will she forever
But will he sing and wil he dance
And will he forever
Someday you will feel a love so deep
And you will find someone not lost in sleep
And you will be loved again
You will be loved again
You will be loved again

N-ggas don't see the preachers 'til we dead in the

Ill, boy you cold n-gga, yeah I know n-gga

If you ain't f-ck with me, don't f-ck with me, this

Green dollars splurged all on embellishments
My fellowship paid, don't need to cop my fellas sh-it
Scoopin' hoes in the party, some Cinderella sh-t
Smash for the hell of it, livin' life on the edge
Miss America, petty thoughts
Miss America, petty thoughts
Miss America, petty thoughts

Heavy heart as I sit in this Range countin' thousands

Am I about knowledge or about brains?
Freedom or big chains, they don't feel my pain
Blood on my sneakers, no remorse for the grievers

That's how I'm feelin', blood spillin' I love killin'
N-ggas'll swear that they it, this is as rare as it

Rap game changed, this is embarrassing sh-t
Bunch of b-tches posin' on some old Miss America sh-t
I was a wilder n-gga back on my therapist sh-t, moving

In a city where n-ggas really don't care who they hit
Who the f-ck was I?
Just a young little n-gga tryin' to see the other side

No brains on a n-gga but they'll air your back
F-ck the man, Uncle Sam I won't sell your crack
I won't fight your wars, I won't wear your hat
I'mma pass your classes, I'mma learn your craft
I'mma f-ck your daughters, I'mma burn your flag

Early morning
A small cafe
A beautiful vision
Comes my way
I watch her hips swing
When she walks
She leaves me speechless
When she talks
I see the sunshine through her dress
Makes my heart say (yes)
Take it off take it off
Let's get it on get it on
Light a fire so sweet
Make the man within me
Desire the woman in you
Miss America
Yes that's what you are
All my dreams they come true
When you do what you do
I just gotta get next to you
Miss America
Take me where you are
In the land of the free
Make a prisoner of me
Close my eyes and you're all that I see
Miss America
I see your beauty shine in every girl
Coast to coast
You're the queen of my world
You're the reason for this state I'm in
New York to LA
Skin to skin
Take it off take it off
Let's get it on get it on
Makes me strong
Makes me weak
Makes the man within me
Love the woman in you
There's one thing you need to know
Oh woman
You rock my world cuz you're so
Beautiful
Miss America
Yes that's what you are
Miss America
It's a basic human need
Feeling beautiful
But you coat your broken body
So subliminal
(So subliminal)
And the colors that you wear
Hide a criminal
You devour classic beauty
You destroy it all
There's no easy way to say this
Miss America
Is a slave from the waist down
Stealing the whole town's love
And good little girls
Won't stay away
It's amazing how quickly
They shed their youth
As you capture everyone
With your distorted truth
Your words and your ways
Are absolute
As you rob them of potential
To be just like you
There's no easy way to say this
There's no pretty way to say this
Miss America
Is a slave from the waist down
Stealing the whole town's love
And good little girls
Won't stay away
(Stay, stay, stay)
Stay away
(Stay, stay, stay)
Stay away
(Stay, stay, stay)
Stay away
(Stay, stay, stay)
Stay away
Miss America
Is a slave from the waist down
Stealing the whole town's love
And good little girls
Did someone give you something to help you ease the pain?
Like the liquor in the bottle, we watched you slip away.
And I feel as if I know you through the bars of a song.
Always surrounded but alone.
But no goodbyes, you'll always be Miss America.
We watched you fly, but nothing's free Miss America.
And as you fall apart, we just call it art.
Was it so hard to breathe?
Was the picture in the paper not the face you recognise?
Did the make up never make up for the pain behind your eyes?
Cos I feel as if I know when you're on my silver screen
But I don't know the dark places that you've been.
But no goodbyes, you'll always be Miss America.
We watched you fly, but nothing's free Miss America.
And as you fall apart, we just call it art.
Was it so hard to breathe?
Does another voice sing in Heaven's choir tonight,
To fill the silence left behind?
And I don't know what goes on in your mind
I'm sure it's enough to make my cry.
Someday we'll find you lived forever.
But no goodbyes, you'll always be Miss America.
We watched you fly, but nothing's free Miss America.
And as you fall apart, we just call it art.

Miss America I’ve been waiting for you to notice me, but I know your
always so busy being free, you know I love you; anyway I guess that’s
you, your big idea eyes draped in your red white and few, but your
always humming some stupid song that I hate, and you always leave
the best part of the meal on the plate, what’s that you said if you could
only have one wish, peace on earth well that’s a mighty big fish.
Her mother wanted a doctor and her father wanted a dancer, now the
politician with the strap on smile avoids the question as he greases up
his answer, as the judge tries to have himself declared legally blind,
she has her seeing eye dog put to sleep out of fear of what they might
find, she learned to love it so much she could force the infidel to leave
it, clever enough to prove she doesn’t exist and dumb enough to
believe it, but our eyes are so sore that you’re an ointment for our
sight, we’ll do the number on what is wrong in the name of what is
right.
You can’t even notice the fangs in such a pretty smile, she casually
omits good taste and formally declares it style, on the cutting edge of
conventionality she always carries this razor blade, so she can threaten
suicide at her convenience if someone else seems better made, the raw
sewage of her thousand ships worth of base and blush, has drained
into the mirrors pool of glass and turned it into mush, and you’ve
turned your tears into an environmental issue, but we will move
mountains for the irony of bringing you a tissue.
You’re a really good actress but what you really want is to direct, and
here comes your therapist with another script you can reject, I could
write a book about how you have absolutely nothing to say, your so
ugly in a beautiful kind of way, and now I’m not so sure that you’re my
type after all, when I got a look at your will and it said you want to be
buried under the mall, when all that’s sacred can be kept in your make
up purse, I’ve been dying to met you and now I don’t know which is
worse.
A wakeup call for the girl
Who has everything
The morning sun
Has a special meaning
She lives a dream that will end
When the sun goes down
She'll be alone, feeling lost
Thinking she's unknown
Tell me why you're crying Miss America
Tell me why you're sad
Tell me what's hurting you so bad
I will never leave you Miss America
In your deepest despair, I'm there
Down on the street
She's expecting a limousine
But it's a one way ride tonight
She'll say goodbye with a smile
Without shedding a tear
And when it ends
She'll remember her long lost friends
Tell me why you're crying Miss America
Tell me why you're sad
Tell me what's hurting you so bad
I will never leave you Miss America
In your deepest despair, ohh I'm there
A final bow, a final curtain call
A graceful gesture that will fool them all
But I will make you smile again
Don't give it up for any of them
I will be there next to you
When it's over, over, I'll be there
Tell me why you're crying Miss America
(Tell me why you're...)
Tell me why you're sad
Tell me what's hurting you so bad
I will never leave you Miss America
In your deepest despair
(Tell me why you're crying Miss America)
Tell me why you're crying
(Tell me why you're sad)
(Tell me what's hurting you so bad)
What's hurting you so bad
(I will never leave you Miss America)
I will never leave you
(In your deepest despair)
Ohh, I'm there
(I will never leave you Miss America)
(I will never leave you Miss America)
I will never leave you
Everything gets old
Everyone is dull
It's always raining
Everyone is scared
'Cause I got Joan Jett hair
But I'll keep changing
No one understands
Why I'm the way I am
So why bring it on?
I don't want to be your Miss America
I won't be your queen for just one day
We just want to sing for your America
Say the things that you're afraid to say
You think I've lost my mind
I call it my good time
It's while you're sleeping
Everyone's force spins
So just go back to bed
You're scared of dreaming
Even if I suck when I'm a little drunk
So what? Just sing along
I don't want to be your Miss America
I won't be your queen for just one day
We just want to sing for your America
Say the things that you're afraid to say
I spit crack in the mold
And I resent growing old
Smoking up and drinking
Doesn't pay the rent, I'm told
I've been locked up, not lucked out
Been fired up, burned out
Been force fed this dick
And bit the cock in my mouth
And I used to be catholic
But now I'm just guilty and filthy
With the all the lies that you filled me
But I'm the queen of kerosene
There is none higher
Got so much fucking fuel
That you can't stop my fire
I don't want to be your Miss America
I won't be your queen for just one day
We just want to sing for your America
Say the things that you're afraid to say
I don't want to be your Miss America
I won't be your queen for just one day
Fuck the east coast/west coast hysteria

Lyrics:
Miss America, music lover, a dancer in the USO
A one time loser a two time fiend,
Says she even likes Black Crowes
Bought a faux fur now she's a hip girl
Head full of acid and pearls
The cops said no, so we left Idaho
Heading to the cost for the show
Said she's a sinner but you know she's a saint
Still she's trouble with a capital "T".
(chorus):
Cause you know she's gonna
Rock and roll
Miss America is
Rock and roll
She gotta lip for the fool
And you know she's gonna
Rock and roll
Keep your head up
And look for the cup
Fill it with the wine from the still.
Miss America, music lover
Spent the last 20 years on the pill.
Said she's a sinner but you know she's a saint
Still she's tripping with a capital "T".
(chorus)
(chorus)
Got divorced, left court broke, of course
Baggin' alimon' for the jag
Quit cigarettes so she's tired and tense
Just a 50 year groupie in drag.
Said she's a sinner but she knows she's a saint
Still she's trouble with a capital "T".
Fat people in shopping malls
Meet me at the big and tall
Not for sale but might be for rent
Raise up the flag on the circus tent
You might miss America when it's gone
You might miss America when it's gone
You might miss America, Paranoid hysteria
You might miss America when it's gone
When it's gone
Crap movies and shit TV
We got it all most defiantly
Lots of drugs and lots of guns
But no one seems to be having much fun
You might miss America when it's gone
You might miss America when it's gone
You might miss America, Paranoid hysteria
You might miss America when it's gone
When it's gone, when it's gone (yeah, yeah, yeah!)
Bring out your dead, let's see 'em smile
The last one left gets the top of the pile
Bring out your dead let's go for a walk
Everyone's afraid to throw the first rock
Bring out your dead, let's see 'em smile
The last one left gets the top of the pile
Bring out your dead let's go for a walk
Everyone's afraid to throw the first rock
Fire crack on the forth of July
You're dressing up in a suit and a tie
Starting wars all over the world
Nice place for a boy and a girl (that's right)
You might miss America when it's gone
You might miss America when it's gone
You might miss America, Paranoid hysteria
You might miss America when it's gone
Another lonely night in Amersterdam
And stars are coming out in waves
I miss my Miss America in Park Hotel
And I'm too stoned to call it a day
When everything you wanted
Seems to hide behind your eyes
And I'm locked in my hotel room
Thinking over our goodbyes
I will write this down for you
So you can read this
I will hold my breath for you
Till you can feel it
Another lonely night in Amsterdam
And water's moving through the sound
The blood is boiling in my veins
and the food I can't keep down
And I don't care if you don't love me
And I don't care if you won't change
I could live inside the shadow that I cast on you
And the myth that you would stay
And I'll be home before the morning comes,
You won't have to be alone
I will write this down for you
So you can read it
I will hold my breath for you
Till I can't feel it
You don't have to see me this way,
Cause this way I'm okay
I will write this down, I will write this down
Oh love, I'm tangled up again
Oh love, when does this twisting end?
When does this twisting end?
I will write this down for you
So you can read it
I will hold my breath for you
Till I can't feel it
You won't have to see me this way
Cause this way I'm okay
I will write this down for you,
Here she comes
Words cannot describe what just befilled my eyes
I never saw a vision so beautified
I almost turned away to take the bad bouquet
And to a country raised her fingertips and tear filled eyes
She walked across the floor, the crowd called out for more
Flash boots froze their expressions in the limousine
Though I've been 'lone, I know I can subsist
Eh, it give me comfort just to realize that she exists
Oh, Miss America, look on me
I'm not the most handsome one you'll ever see
Oh Miss America, I love you
Though we may never meet my name's America
My name's America too, my name's America too
She be putting lullabies on your lips
Oh, you saw enough to launch a thousand ships
You kicked her off to put your hands upon your hips
Let lonely take her to the places where the honey drips, yeah
Oh, Miss America, look on me
I'm not the most handsome one you'll ever see
Oh Miss America, I love you
Though we may never meet my name's America
My name's America too, my name's America too
Here she comes, Miss America
Here she comes, Miss America
Here she comes, Miss America
Here she comes, here she comes
Oh, Miss America, look on me
I'm not the most handsome one you'll ever see
Oh Miss America, I love you
Though we may never meet my name's America
My name's America too, my name's America too
Here she comes, Miss America
Here she comes, Miss America
Here she comes, Miss America
MISS AMERICA SITS IN THE SHOWER
SHE'S PLUCKING HOURS FROM THE SKY
PICKS UP THE TELPHONE INTO ANOTHER HOME
DON'T ASK ME WHY
I DON'T MIND, I DON'T MIND AT ALL
I LOVE ONLY YOU
SHE'S A WELL WISHER AND SHE WISHES YOU WELL
WISH AWAY, WISH AWAY
SHE'S NO JELLYBEAN, SHE'S A JEMIMA HO HO
WISH AWAY. WISH AWAY
I DON'T MIND, I DON'T MIND AT ALL
I LOVE ONLY YOU
DA DO DA DA DO
HERE IS HERE AND I AM HERE
WHERE ARE YOU
FAR AWAY, FAR AWAY
SHE'S NO JELLYBEAN, SHE'S A JEMIMA HO HO
No, you want to think
That it's okay
The air is thin, you smoke anyway
It's just another day
You run in place
Until your legs, they shake
They ache, the pain don't change a thing
It's just another day
Just breathe
You don't have to say a word
It's never worth a fight
You're gonna lose your mind
You're dying Miss America
Looking for some sense of shelter
You don't know what you're after
No, why don't you turn to stone
You live so fast
All for no-one
Dream won't last
Forgotten where you're from
So where'd it all go wrong
Just breathe
You don't have to say a word
It's never worth a fight
You're gonna lose your mind
You're dying Miss America
Just breathe
You don't have to save the world
It's never worth a fight
You're gonna lose your mind
You're dying Miss America
Miss America!
Miss America!
There will be no setting sun tonight
We'll have to leave you home
Tonight!
You don't have to say a word
It's never worth a fight
You're gonna lose your mind
You're dying Miss America
Just breathe
You don't have to say a word
It's never worth a fight
You're gonna lose your mind
You're dying Miss America
Did you believe,
You were gonna fix it all?
You wanna be so strong
In a world that's gone so wrong
You're dying Miss America
No, you want to think
That it's ok
To think it's just another day
You're dying Miss America
No you want to think
That it's ok
To think it's just another day
I will remember the pain
Remember the deceit
And I will construct your fate
And I will construct your fate
And I will construct your fate
I know the truth
And I know what's right for me
I know the way
Way of your lies
I know the way
Way of your lies
I know the truth
And you can't lie this time
Fuck forgive and forget
This is the end for you and I
This is the end for you and I
You lead the life you wanted
And now it's time for your sacrifice
You chose the life you wanted
And now it's time for your sacrifice
Sacrifice!
Sacrifice!
It amazes me
That you could lie to my face
To my face!
I won't miss you this time
I won't miss you!
And I can't be lied to
One more time
Lied to one more time
One more time
Tommy stutters comically
When he says a lot of things
Mommy does the shopping
Daddy's digging through the laundry bins
He likes to try on Mommy's things
With his hair up in her bobby pins
The neighbors very neighborly
Occasionally taking peeks at his niece when she takes a
pee
I heard the plumbers found a finger when they fixed the
basement leak
So pick up the phone
Fix up your lawn
Turn the TV on
There's nothing wrong
Middle America - I love you
Old Mister Wilkinson killed a man
Drunk from the bar
Hit him with the front of his car
Drug him so far
There was nothing but parts
For hundreds of yards
Those thick damn power lines
Will drive you out your mind
Edna sits in the shower sometimes
For hours and cries
Whenever she forgets to tell Howard goodbye
So pick up the phone
Fix up your lawn
Turn the TV on
There's nothing wrong
Middle America - I love you
Smoking softly but
Mommy's body shook
Dropped the coffee cup
I guess the coffee wasn't strong enough
Becca was a quiet girl
Behind the wheel
With a mouth full of diet pills
A couple beers
And some stuff for your sinuses
Dancing in the fire
Smashing all of the appliances
The psychiatrist said "The Zoloft had some side
effects"
So pick up the phone
Fix up your lawn
Turn the TV on
There's nothing wrong
Middle America - we love you
Pick up your phone
Fix up your lawn
Turn the TV on
There's nothing wrong
Miss America - we love you
(There are people who sit and wait their lives away on
the promise of a dream that will not come. They are the
sheep but here are also many, many more like us. We
will not be pushed around.)
[Pledge of Allegiance]
Shorty's not the white type
She goes with the wind blow
Fuck the world literal
Political nympho
Sex symbol of hope for flirtatious souls
She keeps her legs close for those south of the border
Sort of a tease
Never go the whole way
Except for her vacays to Guantanamo Bay
UK put her on the scene at 13
Iron away's known as the American Dream
Roll with the Taliban for Afghan poppies
Sold coke with the Contras
Built banks with Nazis
Funks the Illuminati
So despite the flaws
Wasn't no shit's sticthed by Betsy Ross
Born day 4th of July
And by the 5th, she had the whole world caught up in
her lies
Her eyes dollar signs
Money talk, keeps her drippin'
Magul fixin' feenin' capitalism
CHORUS: Miss America.....Miss America...Miss America
Don't be fooled by the pagentry
It's all cosmetic
Her ethics are deceptive
Sylicone, synthetic
Far from sympathetic
Lest her interests' invested
As she shops at stock markets
In debt with bad credit
Self-sedonists bring the worst in Mother Earth
Toxic relationship, she puts her needs first
Acts all holier-than-thou
but makes sure she separates the state from the church
Post-racial, but I can't tell
The word Nigger rolls off her tongue so well
Dillusion full from the North to down South
It took 500 years to let black folk in the House
CHORUS: Miss America.....Miss America...Miss America
Said there's no just war
There's just war
Guns bust more for the blood-lust tour
To get fucked more
Foul to the corpse
She did the 9th Ward floor
She loves getting face at the top of Mt. Rushmore
Miss America was burning before Lybia
Ghonnorea, syphillis, herpes, chlymida
Signature been all
So many broken promises
You think a new relationship would require doctored
documents
Turn politricks
Straight ripping and robbing
Bad break with her ex
Osama bin Laden
Been gettin it poppin'
Since she knew she could bank it
Givin' handjobs naked under smallpox blankets
Fake lips and tits
Still chasing the dragon
At the next party wasted
Open and teabaggin'
Braggin' like she's the only one with God
