The Kingdom of Poland (Polish: Królestwo Polskie[kruˈlɛstfɔ ˈpɔlskʲɛ]; Russian: Королевство Польское, Царство Польское, Korolevstvo Polskoye, Tsarstvo Polskoye, Russian pronunciation: [ˈtsarstʋə ˈpolʲskəje], translation: Tsardom of Poland), informally known as Congress Poland (Polish: Królestwo Kongresowe[kruˈlɛstfɔ kɔnɡrɛˈsɔvɛ] or Russian Poland), created in 1815 by the Congress of Vienna, was a personal union of the Russian parcel of Poland with the Russian Empire. It was gradually politically integrated into Russia over the course of the 19th century, made an official part of the Russian Empire in 1867, and finally replaced during the Great War by the Central Powers in 1915 with the theoretically existing Regency Kingdom of Poland.
Though officially the Kingdom of Poland was a state with considerable political autonomy guaranteed by a liberal constitution, its rulers, the Russian Emperors, generally disregarded any restrictions on their power. Thus effectively it was little more than a puppet state of the Russian Empire. The autonomy was severely curtailed following uprisings in 1830–31 and 1863, as the country became governed by namestniks, and later divided into guberniya (provinces). Thus from the start, Polish autonomy remained little more than fiction.

Katy Carr performed a special concert in Krakow, Poland at the Fourth Congress of Polish Societies in Exile - this congress focussed on the histories of those 2 million Polish citizens who were kidnapped from Poland during and after WWII by the Soviet Union for slave labour in Stalin's forced labour camps across Siberia and the Soviet Union. Blog created and directed by Hannah Lovell. Big thanks to Professor Narebski and the organisers of the conference :)
The history that lies behind the decision to enslave Polish citizens came due to the pre WWII Molotov-Ribbentrop secret pact made between Hitler and Stalin on 23rd August 1939 which ensured a land split of Poland and her people for slave labour between Germany's Third Reich and Stalin's Soviet Union. Poland had no say in this pact and was completely unaware it had taken place. The pact resulted with the commencement of WWII and ensured a free slave labour force for both Germany and the Soviet Union. Both Germany and the Soviet Union inflicted much cruelty on Poland and her people throughout WWII and after the war when Poland had been 'given' by the Allies to Stalin as a peace offering to end the War. Stalin's regime continued to brutalise the Polish people for many years after the end of WWII and his communist regime was finally was overthrown in 1989 when Poland became a free Independent state once more after having endured nearly 50 years of a Totalitarian communist regime.

KASKADER
(Kaskader na szczytach dachów)
I.
Śnił się kiedyś sen nie-sen
a czasem dziwne sny bywają
ludzi tłum na dachach stal
ludzi tłum na dachów skraju
to Reżyser robił film
ludzi tłum miał skoczyć w dół
Reżyser sygnał dał i pchnięto ludzi z dachów
nie wiem czy ktoś skakać chciał
to miał być film o strachu
dziwny sen, bo oto zamiast w dół
w górę uniósł się zdziwiony tłum
Nie wiem czy to był sen
miałem otwarte oczy

KASKADER
(Kaskader na szczytach dachów)
I.
Śnił się kiedyś sen nie-sen
a czasem dziwne sny bywają
ludzi tłum na dachach stal
ludzi tłum na dachów skraju
to Reżyser robił film
ludzi tłum miał skoczyć w dół
Reżyser sygnał dał i pchnięto ludzi z dachów
nie wiem czy ktoś skakać chciał
to miał być film o strachu
dziwny sen, bo oto zamiast w dół
w górę uniósł się zdziwiony tłum
Nie wiem czy to był sen
miałem otwarte oczy

The epicentre of Warsaw for visitors is the so-called Royal Route (Trakt Królewski), which runs north-south from the New and Old Towns, past the fashionable shops of Nowy Świat, the palaces that survived the war and the royal gardens of Łazienki Park, before reaching Wilanów Palace to the south of the city centre.
Warsaw's striking Old Town may look like it dates back several centuries but the old gal has barely reached middle age. The painstakingly rebuilt area was awarded a listing on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1980. Unmissable attractions in and around the Old Town include the Royal Castle, St John's Cathedral and the Citadel. Farther afield, make sure you visit the Warsaw Rising Museum for the story of the courageous men and women who rose up against their occupiers in WWII as well as the Palace of Culture and Science for the views.
No surprising for a city that was essentially rebuilt from the ground up after WWII, Warsaw offers an inordinate amount of green space, with leafy parks where rowing boats cruise past outdoor cafés, during the summer, and free classical concerts attract crowds in a scene far removed from the dull Communist-era images of Warsaw. And don't miss the palaces and other historical and cultural buildings in the city's splendid Łazienki and Wilanów Parks.
Warsaw's nightlife is one of the best in Eastern Europe today, with a multitude of bars and clubs scattered across the city as well as a generous dose of more highbrow entertainment such as classical music concerts and opera. Whatever you do, don't leave town without sampling the tipple of choice here in these parts: wódka (vodka). It comes in a myriad of flavours and hues - from myśliwska (`hunter's vodka'), which tastes a bit like gin, and wiśniówka (flavoured with cherries) to pieprzówka (pepper) and the famous żubrówka ('bison vodka'), which is flavoured with grass and favoured by the beasties in Bialowieza National Park). Poles traditionally drank vodka neat -- never in cocktails.
The dining options have improved no end in Warsaw, with international cuisine regularly featured alongside Polish standards. And Polish cuisine has also undergone some major transformations, lightening up old favourites with less fat and employing fresher ingredients.

The most attractive urban destinations for tourists are Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław, Poznań, Lublin and Toruń; in addition to these the historic site of the Auschwitz concentration camp near Oświęcim is a noteworthy place of pilgrimage and a now constitutes a major monument to the prevention of war and suffering in Southern Poland. Popular areas of natural beauty include northeast Poland's Masurian Lake District and Białowieża Forest. Poland's main tourist offerings are thought to be based around city-sightseeing and extra-urban historical monuments, business trips, qualified tourism, agrotourism, and mountain hiking.

If we've had to leave our cars anyway, we cannot only go with a good walking tour but we can take the opportunity for a bicycle tour, even with the rented mountain bike. The scenic valley of the Prudnik is winding along the oldest ranges of the era of Krakow. The river valley narrowing to canyons of some places is framed with limestone rocks of various shapes. The valley widens at some places, here it's surrounded by green fields.
While in the white rocks the mouths of caves are various sizes are open. The famous rock formation standing at the east area is called the Krakow gate. The log shaped rock rising behind is called Hercules club. In the last third of the ten kilometer long valley, the view of the romantic castles standing on the steep hill opens up. Warsaw is Poland's largest city and an economic, political, and cultural centre. It's a bustling metropolis harbouring an unforgettable history and today offers parkland as well as a city full of culture - you will find historic palaces and churches amongst modern architecture, while cosy cafes compete with fashionable clubs. The city's history itself is believed to have begun with the creation and development of Old Warsaw (Stara Warszawa), which was set on what is today known as the Old Town (Stare Miasto). Mazovian Prince Bolesław II brought prosperous traders to the Old Town, and his headquarters were based there. Warsaw is also known for its famous musical resident, Fryderyk Chopin, who for the first half of his 39 years, was associated with Warsaw. It was in Warsaw that he studied music, where he was formally educated, and where his heart found its final resting place. The last time Chopin played a concert in Warsaw was in October of 1830, at the National Theatre. He died on October 17, 1849 and was buried at the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris. His heart, however, came back to Warsaw -- it was his most fervent desire to have his heart buried in Warsaw -- and it now lies in the Holy Cross Church (kościół św. Krzyża) on Krakowskie Przedmieście Street.

When visiting Warsaw, check out the following places:
Łazienki Królewskie Park-Palace Complex:
The park and palace complex at Łazienki is one of the most beautiful of this type in Europe. Established in the 17th century, the landscape gardens feature many interesting architectural monuments, especially the Palace on the Island built for King Stanislaw August Poniatowski -- Poland's last monarch. It served as his summer residence and was famous for the Thursday dinners.
Wilanów Park-Palace Complex:
The summer residence of King Jan III Sobieski and then Augustus II as well as subsequent aristocratic families. It stands as an excellent representation of European Baroque at its height and a homage to the former greatness of the Republic. The palace is surrounded by a grandiose, two level Baroque Italian garden and a romantic park in an English style. Wilanów is the venue of important cultural events and concerts. The former stables house the Poster Museum.
Palace of Culture and Science:
Completed in 1955 as a 'gift from the Soviet people', the building is the embodiment of Socialist Realist architecture. It is still the tallest building in Poland and fulfils the role of a cultural centre accommodating theatres, museums, a cinema and a concert hall. The highest viewing platform in Warsaw, on the 30th foor, offers an excellent panoramic view of the city.
Warsaw Rising Museum:
Opened in 2004, on the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising, the museum pays tribute to all those who fought and died for their country's independence. Housed in a former tramway power station, the modern museum guides visitors through interactive displays, video footage and photographs.
National Museum:
The museum contains a rich collection of exhibits from antiquity to modern times. The building originates from the inter-war period. During the World War II it secretly stored some of the Royal Castle treasures. It organizes numerous temporary exhibitions presenting art from all over the world. The Vistula-side building wing is the Museum of the Polish Army presenting the history of Polish military featuring an interesting outdoor exhibition.
Warsaw Zoological Garden:
Established in 1928, the garden is now inhabited by several thousand animals, yet the real personalities of the Warsaw Zoo are the brown bears whose area is located outside the garden, near Solidarności Avenue, and can be viewed by passers-by.
University of Warsaw Library:
The facade of the building, which resembles a line of open books, is one of the most interesting examples of contemporary architecture in Warsaw. The roof garden is open to the public.
Places related to Fryderyk Chopin:
Fryderyk Chopin is undoubtedly the best known resident of Warsaw. He spent the first 20 years of his life in the city. Here he studied music, learned the manners of society and gave his first concerts. Walking the streets of Warsaw you will pass buildings where he stayed or which he visited. There are many places which are a homage paid to his talent and Warsaw boasts the world's largest Chopin memorabilia collection.

ABOUT WARSAW:
Warsaw (Polish: Warszawa [varˈʂava] ( listen); see also other names), is the capital and largest city of Poland. It is located on the Vistula River, in east-central Poland, roughly 260 kilometres (160 mi) from the Baltic Sea and 300 kilometres (190 mi) from the Carpathian Mountains. Its population is estimated at 1.740 million residents within a greater metropolitan area of 2.666 million residents, which makes Warsaw the 9th most populous capital city in the European Union.[2][3][4] The city limits cover 516.9 square kilometres (199.6 sq mi), while the metropolitan area covers 6,100.43 square kilometres (2,355.39 sq mi).[5]
In 2012 Warsaw was ranked as the 32nd most liveable city in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit.[6] It was also ranked as one of the most liveable cities in Central and Eastern Europe. Today Warsaw is considered an Alpha– global city, a major international tourist destination and a significant cultural, political and economic hub.[7][8][9] Warsaw's economy, by a wide variety of industries, is characterised by FMCG manufacturing, metal processing, steel and electronic manufacturing and food processing. The city is a significant centre of research and development, BPO, ITO, as well as Polish media industry. The Warsaw Stock Exchange is one of the largest and most important in Central Europe. Frontex, the European Union agency for external border security, is headquartered in Warsaw. Unusually for a European city, Warsaw has a prominent skyline with many skyscrapers and high-rise buildings in the city center. Warsaw is one of only a few cities in the European Union that have such a skyline, together with Frankfurt, London and Paris.
The first historical reference to Warsaw dates back to the year 1313, when initially Kraków served as the Polish capital city. Due to its central location between the Commonwealth's capitals of Kraków and Vilnius, Warsaw became the capital of the Commonwealth and the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland when King Sigismund III Vasa moved his court from Kraków to Warsaw in 1596.[10] After the Third Partition of Poland in 1795, Warsaw was incorporated into the Kingdom of Prussia. In 1806 during the Napoleonic Wars, the city became the official capital of the Grand Duchy of Warsaw, a puppet state of the First French Empire created by Napoleon Bonaparte. With accordance to the decision of the Congress of Vienna, Warsaw in 1815 was annexed by the Russian Empire and became part of the "Congress Kingdom". Only in 1918 it regained independence from the foreign rule and emerged as a new capital of the independent Republic of Poland. Along with the German invasion in 1939, the massacre of the Jewish population and deportations to concentration camps led to the uprising in the Warsaw ghetto in 1943 and to a major and devastating Warsaw Uprising between August and October 1944. For this Warsaw gained the title of the "phoenix city" because it has survived so many wars, conflicts and invasions throughout its long history. Most notably, the city had to be painstakingly rebuilt after the extensive damage it suffered in World War II, during which 85% of its buildings were destroyed.[11][12] On 9 November 1940 the city was awarded Poland's highest military decoration for heroism, the Virtuti Militari, during the Siege of Warsaw (1939).[13][14]
The city is the seat of a Roman Catholic archdiocese (left bank) and diocese (right bank of the Vistula), and possesses various universities, most notably the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Warsaw University, an opera house, theatres, museums, libraries and monuments. The historic city centre of Warsaw with its picturesque Old Town in 1980 was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other main architectural attractions include the Castle Square with the Royal Castle and the iconic King Sigismund's Column, St. John's Cathedral, Market Square, palaces, churches and mansions all displaying a richness of colour and architectural detail. Buildings are representatives of nearly every European architectural style and historical period. Warsaw has wonderful examples of architecture from the gothic, renaissance, baroque and neoclassical periods and around a quarter of the city is filled with grand parks and royal gardens.

Shopping in Warsaw - Poland

Warsaw - Poland Travel Guide, Tourism http://goo.gl/HmkEIN
Hundreds of new shops have sprung up all over Warsaw since the political transformations of 1989. There are also licensed and illegal street vendors that offer wares ranging from cloth napkins, wooden sculptures, cooking pots and freshly picked mushrooms.
Key areas:
The main shopping streets areas lie in the maze of streets between the Palace of Culture and Science and swanky Ulica Nowy Świat. The eastern end of Aleje Jerozolimskie and the southern part of Ulica Marszałkowska are also god bets. Check out the restored Ulica Chmielna too.
Markets:
With the demise of one of Europe's largest flea markets, known locally as the Russian Market, Warsaw's market scene is a little bare. There are still a few spots worth visiting, however, such as Bazar na Kole (Ulica Obozowa) in the western reaches of the city, which has mountains of junk and antiques to sift through, ranging from CDs and old postcards to farm implements and WWII relics.
Shopping centres:
Shopping arcades, both in and outside of Warsaw, have become very popular, including Galeria Centrum, Ulica Marszalkowska 104/122, the biggest department store in the capital; Arkadia, Aleja Jana Pawla II 82; and the very central Złote Tarasy, Ulica Złota 59. These malls and stores have both national and internationally known brands including H&M;, Levi's and Zara, and often in-house cinemas and restaurants.
Opening hours:
Shops in Warsaw are generally open Monday to Friday 1000/1100-1800/2000 and Saturday 1000-1300/1600. Usually open seven days a week, Warsaw's shopping centres and hypermarkets are the best places to stock up on Polish staples - such as pickled herring, preserved meats and, last but not least, vodka.
Souvenirs:
More than any thing else, arts and crafts are the main things to shop for on a visit to Warsaw. Particularly popular items that are widely available include glass and enamelware, hand-woven rugs, silverware, jewellery made with silver, dolls in regional costumes, woodcarvings and clay and metal sculptures.
Probably the best spots in Warsaw for souvenir hunting are in the Old Town, among the colourful facades and artists' stalls. But the nationwide chain Cepelia, with four branches in the capital, including one at Ulica Marszałkowska 99/101, is a good place to start - its shops stock a good range of local handicrafts. Another much-loved item available widely is amber from the Baltic Sea. This can be sold in many forms, from large lumps to exquisitely carved necklaces. For art, bric-a-brac, curios and the odd real antique check out the chain of shops called Desa Unicum; its most central outlet is at Ulica Marszałkowska 34/50. Bear in mind that the export of anything produced up until the end of WW11 in 1945 is strictly controlled (though the people at Desa Unicum are very familiar with the procedures and will help with the necessary paperwork).
Tax information:
Tax-free shopping in Warsaw is available to non-EU residents spending a minimum of €175 or equivalent in one transaction at participating outlets. Cash refunds are given out at airports on presentation of the tax free documents.

Katy Carr performs in Krakow at the Fourth Congress of Polish Societies in Exile
Katy Carr is a London-based performer and songwriter who sings, plays a vintage, wurlitzer electronic piano, ukulele and banjolele with her group ‘Katy Carr and The Aviators.’ She has self-released four albums on her label Deluce Recordings. Screwing Lies(2001), Passion Play (2003) and Coquette (2009) which has received no less than 4/5 starreviews in the mainstream and music press during with a 5/5 star review from MusicCritic, ‘Quite simply a masterpiece’. In September 2012, to mark the 17th September 1939 Soviet invasion of Poland, Katy Carr released her fourth album entitled Paszport inspired by stories she has gathered from Polish World War Two veterans, Polish R.A.F Pilots, Polish Soldiers, Membersof the Home Army – Armia Krajowa, Polish Partisans, Polish Parachutists, Polish Resistance fighters, Polish Navy sailors, Polish people who fought in the 1944 Warsaw Uprising, and Polish survivors of both German Nazi labour and concentration camps and Soviet detention camps in Siberia showing in her opinion, ‘The true heart of Poland’.On September 3rd, Katy Carr performed songs from her album Paszport with specially created short films and visuals by White Gloves Films, directed by HannahLovell, Katy Carr’s main artistic and film collaborator. The visuals and archive footagecome with the kind permission of the Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum, The Royal Air Force in Hendon, London and the Warsaw Uprising Museum.

Warsaw is a large and sprawling city of more than 1.7 million people that is split into somewhat uneven halves by the Wisła (Vistula) River. Most everything of interest to visitors is on the western side of the river around the modern financial district. Its centrepiece is the landmark Palace of Culture and Science (Pałac Kultury i Nauki), a Socialist-Realist confection which can be seen from virtually anywhere in the city.

Krakow Travel Video Guide • Great Destinations
Wandering among the endless hills, lakes and mountains of Southeast Poland, one can find cities, medieval castles, grandiose palaces and rich museums, each one more interesting than the previous. The city core of Krakow, with its old streets and squares offer us the feeling of the happy, old days. The Wawel district, which is built on a hill, fort walls and bastions protect the royal palace and the cathedral. The astonishingly great square of the old marketplace is surrounded by medieval houses, and is busy all day and all night. The restaurants tempt the travelers with food prepared from wild mushrooms and berries, game and cabbage. The religious buildings keep the memory of the late Pope, John Paul II. the late Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. From Krakow we can take a trip to the Wieliczka salt mine, to the enchanting medieval trading post, Krosno, and to the Ojcowi National Park, where there are many rivers, castles and caves for us to explore. We can take a look at the symbol of human cruelty, Auschwitz, and take a tour in the Polish Alps. The city of Zakopane awaits those visitors at any season, who would like to take tours, bike, and ski.

Poland is a major part of the global tourism market and is currently experiencing an upward trend in its number of visitors; this began shortly after joining the European Union. Tourism in Poland contributes to the country's overall economy and makes up a relatively large proportion of the country's service market.

The National park of Ojcow is worth visiting, especially for those spend at least two weeks in can Kraków. The park is only twenty kilometers from the city, were castles, caves, and river valleys framed by hills and forest are waiting to be discovered. Ojcow is the favorite weekend excursion place of the residence of Kraków, so tourists make a better choice if they visit here during the week.
The grill bars and snack bars along the road, which provide the atmosphere of a picnic, are all open it this time also. The twenty one square kilometer national park is easily accessible by bus. Since Poland is traditionally religious catholic country, we can also find places of worship at parks too. This however is not a stone church, but a nicely carve little wooden chapel, opposite the car park. This is the starting point of hikes. From here motor vehicle traffic is not allowed but we can use an environmentally friendly Horse cart. The Horse taxi takes us along a whole row of weekend houses to the ruins of the castle of Ojcow from the fourteenth century.
Many Kraków residences have weekend houses or lots here, where many grow vegetables and fruit as a hobby. They making of Sauerkraut have a long tradition. The cabbage grown in the garden is pickled in barrels or nowadays in clay pots, and use to the making of bigos. The Polish national food inspired the following lines by in this exhibits in the pandowdies. Bigos was on the boil, hard to express in words the wondrous taste, the hue, and gusty of the hunt man stew. Words are clanging symbols rhymes but seared sounds, there substance. The town's man belly will never plum.
To savor lit for songs and visuals, one needs for bust help, country life and the thrill of the hunt. Get even without such seasonings, Bigos is no ordinary dish. It's skillfully prepared of the finniest vegetables. Sauerkraut the based of it fine and tart ala polonace, so toothy as the saying goes, it makes its own way to your lips. Luck within boiler, its simmers in brewed over the choices Morsels of game meat until every ounce of living essence is coax out. Till the steam spouts from the vessels rim and the ambient air becomes steeped with it's exquisite odors. The polish's like nature, excursions, picnics, and out door cooking and roasting.
In the area of the park, besides the castles, some remaining old villas can also be visited. Of the once impressive buildings at the castle of Ojcow, only the pentagonal towers and the gate have remained. Near by there are two museums that we may visit. The local history museum exhibits the regional history, ethnography and traditions but the national park exhibits its rich flora and fauna. In the park or very close to it, we can find four caves to which tourist pass lead. Down there all your round refrigerators like temperature dominate, which means five to seven degrees Celsius. It's worth preparing for this with coats and sweaters.
The Piascoes Kaskala was built on the fourteen century to be a royal watch post, and then it became the possession of a Polish Aristocratic family.
