Do you know what to do if you ingest oleander?
Oleander, also known as nerium, is a poisonous evergreen shrub known for its clusters of white, pink, or red flowers. Although it's used as a decorative shrub in parks, schools, and backyards, it's one of the most poisonous of commonly grown garden plants.
Where is it located?
Oleander's origins are believed to be in southwest Asia, although this plant is so widely cultivated that no precise region of origin has been identified.
How will it kill you?
The entire plant contains two toxic chemicals: oleandrin and oleandrigenin. These are known as cardiac glycosides, which, while therapeutic in precise doses, can cause cardiac arrest if ingested unsystematically. It also causes significant effects on the nervous system with symptoms such as drowsiness, tremors or shaking of the muscles, seizures, collapse, and even coma that can lead to death.
How to survive:
Oleander poisoning always requires immediate medical care. Induced vomiting and stomach pumping are a couple protective measures used to reduce absorption of the toxic compounds. If these methods still prove unsuccessful, the antidote Digoxin Immune Fab is the best way to cure the poisoning.
Can you guess how many oleander-related deaths occurred from 1985 to 2005?
There were only 3 oleander-induced deaths in the 20-year span, although the Toxic Exposure Surveillance System (TESS) reports that there were 847 poisonings in 2002 alone in just the United States.

Nerium oleander (
/ˈnɪəriəm ˈoʊliː.ændər/) is an evergreen shrub or small tree in the dogbane family Apocynaceae, toxic in all its parts. It is the only species currently classified in the genus Nerium. It is most commonly known as oleander, from its superficial resemblance to the unrelated olive Olea, but has many other names. It is so widely cultivated that no precise region of origin has been identified, though southwest Asia has been suggested. The ancient city of Volubilis in Morocco took its name from the old Latin name for the flower. Oleander is one of the most poisonous of commonly grown garden plants.
Oleander grows to 2–6 m (6.6–20 ft) tall, with erect stems that splay outward as they mature; first-year stems have a glaucous bloom, while mature stems have a grayish bark. The leaves are in pairs or whorls of three, thick and leathery, dark-green, narrow lanceolate, 5–21 cm (2.0–8.3 in) long and 1–3.5 cm (0.39–1.4 in) broad, and with an entire margin. The flowers grow in clusters at the end of each branch; they are white, pink to red, 2.5–5 cm (0.98–2.0 in) diameter, with a deeply 5-lobed fringed corolla round the central corolla tube. They are often, but not always, sweet-scented. The fruit is a long narrow capsule 5–23 cm (2.0–9.1 in) long, which splits open at maturity to release numerous downy seeds.

Plot: Bleep Love is about the small things of life that we always overlook and the big things of life that are not always available like money, material, first love. Poisonous Plant, Nerium Oleander is a toxic flower that can kill you. This deadly plant is one of the most poisonous commonly found flower in the world that will kill you.
Do you know what to do if you ingest oleander?
Oleander, also known as nerium, is a poisonous evergreen shrub known for its clusters of white, pink, or red flowers. Although it's used as a decorative shrub in parks, schools, and backyards, it's one of the most poisonous of commonly grown garden plants.
Where is it located?
Oleander's origins are believed to be in southwest Asia, although this plant is so widely cultivated that no precise region of origin has been identified.
How will it kill you?
The entire plant contains two toxic chemicals: oleandrin and oleandrigenin. These are known as cardiac glycosides, which, while therapeutic in precise doses, can cause cardiac arrest if ingested unsystematically. It also causes significant effects on the nervous system with symptoms such as drowsiness, tremors or shaking of the muscles, seizures, collapse, and even coma that can lead to death.
How to survive:
Oleander poisoning always requires immediate medical care. Induced vomiting and stomach pumping are a couple protective measures used to reduce absorption of the toxic compounds. If these methods still prove unsuccessful, the antidote Digoxin Immune Fab is the best way to cure the poisoning.
Can you guess how many oleander-related deaths occurred from 1985 to 2005?
There were only 3 oleander-induced deaths in the 20-year span, although the Toxic Exposure Surveillance System (TESS) reports that there were 847 poisonings in 2002 alone in just the United States.
