Marcus Roberts (born August 7, 1963) is an American jazz pianist, composer, arranger, bandleader, and teacher.
Roberts was born in Jacksonville, Florida. Blind since the age of five due to glaucoma and cataracts, he attended the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind in St. Augustine, Florida, the alma mater of another distinguished musician, Ray Charles. Roberts began teaching himself to play piano at an early age, had his first lesson at age 12, and then studied the instrument with pianist Leonidas Lipovetsky while attending Florida State University.
Marcus Roberts is a British actor from London, England. He has appeared in numerous TV shows and films in England and is recently gaining recognition in America. He was the main star of the TV Movie Oap Killer First Kill Last Kill that aired on Channel 5 TV. He was interviewed in The Telegraph newspaper about taking on such a harrowing role. He is on the social celebrity magazine WhoSay. He is also in the top five percent of social media users according to Klear.
Roberts’ renowned trio of piano, bass and drums travels from rhythm-led soundscapes to sunny funk propelled by Roberts’ piano, as each takes turns at the helm with equal virtuosity. With Rodney Jordan on bass and Jason Marsalis on the drums. Roberts has toured with Wynton Marsalis and is a mentee of Maestro Seiji Ozawa, with whom he and the trio have also collaborated. Roberts has received numerous commissioning awards, including ones from Jazz at Lincoln Center, Chamber Music America, and ASCAP.
