Ferdinand is a long-standing employee at Fish Land, the aquatic centre within the globalised leisure complex "Worlds Apart". He's a small, bald forty year-old, and a solitary, anxious introvert, entirely devoted to his passion for fish. But Ferdinand's obsessive little existence is turned upside down the day Fish Land closes down for six months of renovation. He is transferred to another section of "Worlds Apart", the Finnish-Turkish Delight spa, entirely geared towards the pleasure of saunas and steam rooms. Ferdinand is suddenly thrown into a world of nudity, sensuality, relaxation and letting go... In short, everything he could possibly be afraid of! HOT HOT HOT is the belated journey of initiation of an inhibited little man, who slowly but surely learns to open up to the pleasures of life. It paints a colourful yet sensitive picture of a world caught between artificiality and authenticity, between norm and peculiarity. It is a film on the body, on nudity and love, and on accepting one's difference.

Ahmed, an Iraqi doctor, runs a makeshift clinic with his father, Jasim, out of their own home in bombed out Baghdad. The victims of war pour in, suffering everything from diphtheria to gunshot wounds. Ahmed's father does not charge for his services, knowing that his patients cannot afford treatment anyways. When supplies start to run low, however, Ahmed begins to question his father's incurable idealism. Oman, a dear friend of Ahmed, is hit by a roadside bomb and the clinic barely has the requisite medicine to keep him alive. Ahmed confronts his father about the worsening situation and when Jasim refuses to charge patients money, he resolves to take action himself. Both men's lives are changed forever when a wounded journalist is dragged into their clinic while they are already operating on a compatriot. The clock is ticking and Ahmed must weigh the lives of his countrymen against this journalist- a foreigner, but willing to pay. Can Ahmed sacrifice one of his own in the hope of saving hundreds more?

Guantanamo prisoners released: United States sends five Yemeni detainees to Oman and Estonia

The United States transported five Yemeni detainees from Guantanamo on Wednesday. Four of the men were sent to Oman, while the fifth was sent to Estonia. The five men were cleared for release five years ago but could not be sent back to Yemen because of the fear that they would join Yemen-based Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), which claimed responsibility for the terrorist attacks in Paris this month. Al Khadr Abdallah Muhammad al-Yafi, Fadhel Hussein Saleh Hentif, Abd Al-Rahman Abdullah Au Shabati and Mohammed Ahmed Salam, each held in Guantanamo for almost 13 years, were transferred to Oman. Akmed Abdul Qadei, captured by Pakistani authorities in 2002 when he was 17, was transferred to Estonia. Oman, despite its proximity to Yemen, is considered stable and has so far avoided the emergence of violence linked to militant Islamic fundamentalism that plagues its neighbors. Separated from Yemen by a large desert, Oman has been a U.S. ally for years. U.S. officials said the released detainees will have an easier time integrating into Omani society than a European one. The men’s release has been hotly disputed in Congress as several Republican senators remain opposed to the sudden influx of releases from Guantanamo. Thirty-three prisoners have been transferred in the past year alone. Several of the senators, including John McCain, proposed a moratorium on Obama’s ability to release prisoners from Guantanamo for the remainder of his term. Following the men’s release this week, the number of prisoners in Guantanamo is down to 122, a tremendous decrease from the 680 prisoners the complex held a decade ago. Cyclone Ashobaa To Hit Oman Coast

Authorities have warned of southeasternly winds and rough sea in the Strait of Hormuz and northern Oman Sea as Tropical Storm Ashobaa moves closer to the southeastern part of Oman to make a landfall on Thursday morning. “The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology [NCMS] confirms previous warnings of fresh southeasterly winds and rough sea at times in the Strait of Hormuz and northern part of Oman Sea,” according to a weather alert. Wave height offshore in Oman Sea could reach up a minimum of 3ft with a maximum of 5ft to 7ft on Wednesday and may be sustained on Thursday. Southeasterly winds will reach a maximum speed of 22 knots. NCMS had earlier warned that the UAE may not be directly affected by Ashobaa as its current trajectory shows it will make a landfall in Oman and head westward, with the centre of the storm missing the UAE. Moderated by Nima Abu-Wardeh, the presenter of the BBC World News weekly financial programme Middle East Business Report, the Summit was held at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Muscat on May 26, 2015. In the panel discussion ‘‘Infrastructure Development - The Way Ahead’, Eng. Ahmed Bin Saleh Al-Jahdhami, CEO, Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP), said that several water and power projects were being implemented. “We are keen to involve the private sector in a big way in water desalination projects,” he said. “Cost cutting is not a strategy. The Government has a strategy for moving ahead, he said. Dr. Bhaskar Dutta, CEO, Al Jazeera Steel Products Company; Fabio Scacciavillani, Chief Economist, Oman Investment Fund; Khalid Ansari, Managing Partner, KPMG; Lubna al Kharusi, CFO, Omran and Rajeev Singh, Partner, EY Oman, were the other panelists. The panelists highlighted about the manpower regulations and efforts made to attract private sector participation in tourism related projects and the need to diversify the economy. Lubna said that when there is a paradigm shift in the way decisions are made, tourism will contribute to the growth of the economy. Fabio said there was no major slowdown on infrastructure projects. However, the challenge is to make business environment friendly for investors. The biggest challenge for Oman is to provide employment to Omanis, said Khalid Ansari. When it comes to street food Asia is without a doubt the leader in terms of top notch delectable and inexpensive bite sized delights. Prior to teaching English in South Korea, having grown up in Canada, I really didn't know what street food was all about. Over the past decade, having focused most of my time living and traveling in Asia, I've become such a huge fan of street food that I feel as though I'm being robbed whenever I visit a country or city where I'm unable to get it. When you think of street food in Asia numerous countries pop into mind. The standouts in my opinion are Korean street food, Chinese street food, Thai street food, Malaysian street food, Vietnamese street food and Taiwanese street food. The following is a travel and food guide to the best street food to be found in Asia: 1) Thai Street Food Where can you find Thai street. In a word - everywhere! Street food in Thailand is as much a part of daily life as songthaews and Buddhist monks. In this video we showcase the Saturday Night Market in Chiang Mai, Thailand where we sample numerous street food delights including twist potatoes, blueberry cheesecake ice cream, pan-fried dumplings, sausage and banana pancakes with chocolate. 2) Korean Street Food I've said it before but it is worth repeating again: "There is no place on earth that offers better street food that South Korea." Called 'pojangmacha' some of my favorites include tteokbokki and hotteok. If you're in Seoul consider checking out Insadong and Namdaemun for a diverse selection of delectable delights. 3) Macanese Street Food Friends had told us about the legendary street food in Macua. Fortunately for us we had an opportunity to try it ourselves. Some of the top highlights included egg tarts, pork chop bun, almond cakes, soy milk and Taiwanese pearl milk bubble tea. 4) Chinese Street Food Our favorite city to eat street, while traveling in China, was the night market in Yangshuo. We started off with satay, a smoky and spicy meat and then moved on to Chinese banana pancakes. Compared to other countries where I've tried banana pancakes this one compared favorably. 5) Malaysian Street Food I've visited many night markets in Asia and the Jonker Street Night Market, located in Malacca, Malaysia, is one of my all time favorites. On a hot and humid evening we had a chance to cool down with some delicious Cendol - a shaved iced dish with coconut milk, cane syrup, jellies and beans along with some refreshing sugarcane juice. 6) Singapore Street Food Singapore is by far the most expensive country in Southeast Asia to visit. Accommodation is expensive. Eating at restaurants costs a small fortune. The solution? Hawker Centres. These open air food stall complexes serve up wonderful delights from cuisine all over Asia and especially SE Asia. We were lucky enough to sample Hainanese chicken rice, butter chicken, butter naan, satay and dim sum. 7) Khmer Street Food Have you ever tried insects before? Prior to traveling in SE Asia I had yet to experience eating an insect. While in Cambodia I had the chance to devour some deep-fried crickets. Surprisingly, they were delicious - tasting similar to a potato chip. 8) More Malaysian Cuisine While wandering around in Melaka we cooled down with Cendol - this time with ice cream while munching on deep-fried banana. 9) More Thailand Cuisine Here we show you the infamous Thai banana pancake, also known as banana roti, as made from scratch Thai style. While living nearby Chiang Mai Gate we came here often to this stall for a sweet treat and for some dessert. Coming in at only 30 Baht (1 USD) it's the kind of treat where you can have more than one. 10) Thai Cuisine once again One of our favorite outdoor stalls in Chiang Mai served yellow noodles with dumplings. The wanton like dumplings were a real treat. Coming in at just over a dollar we ate here often to save money. This is our street food guide to Asia. Did you enjoy it? Grand Mosque, Muscat ------------------------- Be wowed by gold, crystals, Italian white marble, a 10-tonne crystal chandelier lit by 1,122 bulbs and a 21-tonne carpet woven in one piece by 600 Iranian women. The women's room is much smaller than the men's. It took six years to build the mosque, whose huge gold dome and tall minarets dominate the skyline. Ras Al Jinz ---------------- Ras Al Jinz, near Sur, is the only place to spot protected turtles. More than 50,000 females make their way slowly up the beach every night to lay their eggs, before slipping back to the sea before dawn. July to October is the peak time for turtle watching. Rustaq Fort ------------- The sheer beauty of this mighty fort comes into view as you approach. It has been beautifully restored and is a maze of corridors, stairways, prettily-carved archways and fascinating rooms including the sultan's guest room, winter room, prison and women's and girls' rooms adorned with pretty bracelets, teapots and delightfully painted ceramics. Wadi Sahtan ------------------ Explore the beautiful ravine of Wadi Sahtan in the Rustaq region on a 4-wheel drive guided jeep tour. Pass by small ancient villages, beautiful, still green pools, 14 million date palms, and craggy cliffs, stopping off for a picnic lunch beneath the towering peaks. Best of all, enjoy the thrill of splashing at speed through small rivers along the way. Al Mughsayl blowholes ------------------------- These blowholes provide an amazing natural water display. During the monsoon, when sea levels rise and currents become more active, water surges though rock cavities, resulting in a superb display of gushing water. Al-Hoota Cave -------------------- You will encounter some of the country's limestone wonders at this cave, reached by Oman's only train It extends for 5km (3 miles) underground and the cave lake contains several species of blind fish. Bahla Fort ------------- This is one of the most impressive fortified settlements of its kind in the world and one of Oman's many World Heritage sites. Like several of its listed sites, it is not yet open to visitors. Before you leave, buy a souvenir pot from local Bahla potters but don't rub it - Bahla is famous for genies! Beach picnic --------------- Spend a day the Omani way with a picnic and the company of friends on the beautiful beaches of Yitti, Seifa or Quiryat or in the lush oleander-flowering wadis of Dayqah, Shab and Tiwi. Forts and castles ------------------------- Scale the battlements of one of Oman's many forts and castles in the old capital cities of Nakhal or Rustaq, and examine why honey wasn't always sweet for unwanted guests at the imposing Al-Hazm, Nizwa or Jibreen Forts. Muscat ----------- To get a true feel for Oman's whitewashed capital, follow the Muttrah Corniche from the lively fish market, past the balconied buildings of the Muttrah Souk and old Muscat to the Sultan's Palace, which shelters beneath the 16th-century Portuguese forts of Al Jalali and Al Mirani. Nizwa is about 140 km (1.5 hours) from Muscat. The population is estimated at around 700,000 people including the two areas of Burkat Al Mooz and Al Jabel Al Akhdar. Nizwa is one of the oldest cities in Oman and it was once a center of trade, religion, education and art. Its Jama (grand mosque) was formerly a center for Islamic learning. Nizwa acquired its importance because it has been an important meeting point at the base of the Western Hajar Mountains. Set amid a verdant spread of date palms, it is strategically located at the crossroads of routes linking the interior with Muscat and the lower reaches of Dhofar thus serving as the link for a large part of the country. Today, Nizwa is a diverse prosperous place with numerous agricultural, historical and recreational aspects. Nizwa is a center for date growing and is the market place for the area. Attractions Nizwa, Oman ============== The main tourist attractions in the city are Nizwa Fort, the traditional Souq and Falaj Daris. In the 1990s, the Jama, the fort and the souq which sit next to each other in the centre were renovated using the same traditional materials. In 1993 Nizwa won the award of 'Organisation of Arab Cities'. Nizwa Fort ====== Nizwa fort was built in the 1668 AD by Imam Sultan Bin Saif Al Ya'rubi. It is Oman's most visited national monument. The fort was the administrative seat of authority for the presiding Imams and Walis in times of peace and conflict. The main bulk of the fort took about 12 years to complete and was built above an underground stream. The fort is a reminder of the town's significance through turbulent periods in Oman's long history. It was a formidable stronghold against raiding forces that desired Nizwa's abundant natural wealth and its strategic location at the crossroads of vital routes. Nizwa Souq ============ The city, famous for its handicrafts and agricultural products, has an expansive souq with an array of products. It is one of the most important in the country besides Muttrah. The souq bustles with vendors selling everything from meat, fish, fruits and vegetables to spices, dates, gold and silverware. Nizwa is renowned for its silver jewelry which is considered to be the best in the country. Its people are masters in Khanjar making (curved dagger), recognised for its distinctive style and patterns. They also make copper ware, coffee pots, swords, leather goods and pottery. Falaj Daris =========== Falaj Daris (a World Heritage Site) is the largest falaj in Oman and is the life maintainer of Nizwa. It provides the surrounding countryside with much needed water for the plantations. Al Ghantuq and Dhoot are two other important falajs in Nizwa. Farming is widely practiced and the town's immense palm farms stretches for eight kilometers along the course of two wadis (Kalbouh and Al Abiadh). Up until the 1970’s the third largest country in the Arabian Peninsula was only accessible by various caravan routes but today it boasts an abundance of mysterious desert towns and splendid palaces.The white city of Sohar is the historic harbour of the Islamic world and the ‘Gateway To China’. It is still guarded by the white Sohar Fort, a mighty four-storey structure that dates back to the 14th century. The Hajar Mountains extend for almost six hundred kilometres from the Musandam Peninsula in the north to its eastern sections. They are also known as the Oman Mountains and divide the coast from the inland. Oman covers around three hundred thousand square kilometres and is one of the most sparsely settled countries in the world with only one and a half million inhabitants. Nizwa, the religious center of the Omans, has a moving past that manifests itself in the city’s defensive fortress. Until the 12th century it was the capital of the Desert State of Oman. Even today this oasis city and trading metropolis has lost none of its former importance. Al-Hamra is the name of a three hundred year old oasis village that dates back to the reign of Imam Saif Bin Sultan. At the end of the 17th century members of the Abriyin Tribe settled here the descendants of whom still live in the Jebal-Akhdar Mountains. Al-Hamra means ‘The Red One’, an Arabic name that is also to be found in the word ‘Alhambra’, in Spain’s Granada. The Sultanate Of Oman is a treasure trove of rarities. Its twelve thousand year old history is visible throughout the entire country and the beauty of the mysterious Arabian Peninsula is a truly captivating experience.

It is the best-known wadi of the Sharqiyah region. Its stream maintains a constant flow of water throughout the year. Large pools of water and boulders are scattered along the course of the wadi. As a geographical area, Wadi Bani Khalid covers a large swathe of low land and mountains. Caves form some of the interesting features of this wadi. These include Kahf Maqal which is one of the Sultanate's underground chambers. However, reaching this cave takes a lot of effort and visitors should be prepared for the adventure. Springs of water are also common in this wadi. The springs of Ain Hamouda, Ain al Sarooj and Ain Dawwa, among others, are a blessing to the eye as one ventures along the wadis. The village of Badaa is a well-known tourist stop in the valley. The wadi is approx. 270KM from Muscat. Holding a strategically important position at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, the nation is bordered by the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west, and Yemen to the southwest, and shares marine borders with Iran and Pakistan. The coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the southeast and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast. The Madha and Musandam exclaves are surrounded by the UAE on their land borders, with the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman forming Musandam's coastal boundaries. From the late 17th century, the Omani Sultanate was a powerful empire, vying with Portugal and Britain for influence in the Persian Gulf and Indian Ocean. At its peak in the 19th century, Omani influence or control extended across the Strait of Hormuz to modern-day Iran and Pakistan, and as far south as Zanzibar (today part of Tanzania). As its power declined in the 20th century, the sultanate came under the influence of the United Kingdom. Historically, Muscat was the principal trading port of the Persian Gulf region. Muscat was also among the most important trading ports of the Indian Ocean. Oman's official religion is Islam. Oman is an absolute monarchy. The Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said is the hereditary leader of the country since 1970. Sultan Qaboos is the longest-serving ruler in the Middle East. Oman's human rights record has been the subject of criticism. Unlike its resource-rich neighbors, Oman has modest oil reserves, ranking 25th globally. Nevertheless, in 2010 the UNDP ranked Oman as the most improved nation in the world in terms of development during the preceding 40 years. Oman is categorized as a high-income economy and ranks as the 59th most peaceful country in the world according to the Global Peace Index.
