Shandong (help·info) (simplified Chinese: 山东; traditional Chinese: 山東; pinyin: Shāndōng; Wade–Giles: Shan1-tung1) is a coastal province of the People's Republic of China, and is part of the East China region. Shandong has played a major role in Chinese history from the beginning of Chinese civilization along the lower reaches of the Yellow River and served as a pivotal cultural and religious site for Taoism, Chinese Buddhism, and Confucianism. Shandong's Mount Tai is the most revered mountain of Taoism and one of the world's sites with the longest history of continuous religious worship. The Buddhist temples in the mountains to the south of the provincial capital of Jinan were once among the foremost Buddhist sites in China. The city of Qufu is the birthplace of Confucius, and was later established as the center of Confucianism. Shandong's location at the intersection of ancient as well as modern north-south and east-west trading routes have helped to establish it as an economic center. After a period of political instability and economic hardship that began in the late 19th century, Shandong has emerged as one of the most populous (95,793,065 inhabitants at the 2010 Census) and most affluent provinces in the People's Republic of China (GDP of 3.94 trillion CNY in 2010).
Diego Tardelli Martins (born 10 May 1985 in Santa Bárbara d'Oeste), simply known as Diego Tardelli, is a Brazilianfootball player who currently plays as a striker for Al-Gharafa and for the Brazilian national team. He is a dynamic player who can change the balance of a game with his speed on attack and individual skills.
Since January 2008 with Flamengo, Tardelli scored the winning goal in the Taça Guanabara final against Botafogo. Once again, in the final of Rio de Janeiro State League 2008 against Botafogo, he entered in the second half and he changed the game. He scored a goal and made an assist to Obina.
Tardelli seriously injured himself on 3 August 2008, in a match against Cruzeiro. He fractured his right arm after falling awkwardly. A surgery has been necessary, and the Flamengo's medical staff indicated that he would be out of playing until the end of 2008.

What started as a sizable fire turned into a mushroom cloud-explosion in Rizhao, Shandong Province, this morning, as a petroleum plant burst into flames. No casualties have yet to be reported.
According to CRI, the fire broke out at 7.30am, triggered by a chemical leak that eventually ignited. Firefighters were quickly on the scene and, thankfully, seem to have been able to get out of the way before the explosion.

During the melee, referee Hao Junmin lost the plot, and the official punched Shandong Luneng’s Brazilian coach Cuca in the face.
The assault left Cuca with a cut above his eye.
Watch the shocking video below, together with pictures of the damage caused to Cuca.

Shandong Airlines Boeing 737-800 FIRST CLASS Taipei to Jinan, China [AirClips full flight series]
Shandong Airlines Co,.Ltd. (Chinese: 山东航空; pinyin: Shāndōng Háng Kōng, nicknamed SDA or 山航 Shānháng) is an airline based in the Shandong Airlines Center (山东航空大厦 Shāndōng Hángkōng Dàshà) in Jinan, Shandong, China. The Chinese carrier operates mainly domestic trunk routes from Jinan, Qingdao and Yantai to major cities in China. It is owned by Air China and holds a 10 percent stake in Sichuan Airlines. Shandong Airlines was established on 12 March 1994 and started operations in September of the same year. In September 1997, it jointly founded the Xinxing Aviation Alliance along with five of China's provincial airlines. 21 April 2014,Shandong Airlines commitment to order 50 Boeing 737s, including 16 Next-Generation 737s and 34 737 MAXs,the order still needs to be approved by the Chinese government and will receive the aircraft in batches between 2016 and 2020.
The 737-800 is a stretched version of the 737-700, and supersedes the 737-400. It also filled the gap left by the decision to discontinue the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 and MD-90 following Boeing's merger with McDonnell Douglas. The -800 was launched by Hapag-Lloyd Flug (now TUIfly) in 1994 and entered service in 1998. The 737-800 seats 162 passengers in a typical two-class layout, or up to 189 in one class. It competes with the A320. For many airlines in the U.S., the 737-800 replaced aging Boeing 727-200 trijets and MD-80 series and MD-90 aircraft.

Just a short ferry ride from the city’s downtown is the narrow island of Cijin. This district serves as the harbor’s natural breakwater, and has been home to Kaohsiung’s fishing families for generations. Visit Tianhou Temple, dedicated to the goddess Matzu, the protector of sailors and fishermen. Follow dramatic coastal paths and climb to the lighthouse and fort for commanding views.
Wherever you go in Kaohsiung, you’ll be reminded that this is a city with water in its veins. The Love River runs right through the heart of the city. Once little more than a neglected drain, the river’s transformation reflects the city’s evolution into a place awakening to its natural assets.
But if the Love River is the city’s mirror, Lotus Lake is the city’s soul. From the remains of the Old Wall of Fengshan, explore the lake in a clockwise direction, visiting the Dragon and Tiger Pavilion, the Spring and Autumn Pavilions, and an 80ft statue of Xuan Wu.
After a busy day with the gods, follow your nose to the Liouho Night Market. Drift along with the human tide, through a canyon of neon-lit stalls serving up all the fruits of the sea. So what are you waiting for, dive into Kaohsiung, Taiwan’s best kept secret by the sea.

Tsingtao was originally popular with the Germans, who introduced the city to beer at the beginning of the last century. The beaches here have only recently become accessible to every social class. On the sands, one encounters a surprising cross-section, those in their work clothes and business suits, and others who daringly sport a swimming costume, (although bikinis are rare). Many hesitate to take the plunge, because a lot of young Chinese quite simply can’t swim ! Rubber rings are therefore indispensable, and are carried, or worn around the waist, on the buses going to the beach. Some people are abandoning them, though, as they learn to swim : in 2008 Tsingtao will host the Olympic Games’ water sports events…

China is a huge country in Eastern Asia (about the same size as the United States of America) with the world's largest population.
With coasts on the East China Sea, Korea Bay, Yellow Sea, and South China Sea, in total it borders 14 nations. It borders Afghanistan, Pakistan (through the disputed territory of Kashmir), India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam to the south; Tajikistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan to the west; Russia and Mongolia to the north and North Korea to the east. This number of neighbouring states is equalled only by China's vast neighbour to the north, Russia.
This article only covers mainland China. For Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, please see separate articles.
See in China
===========
China's attractions are endless and you will never run out of things to see. Especially near the coastal areas, if you run out of things to see in one city, the next one is usually just a short train ride away.
Whether you are a history buff, a nature lover or someone who just wants to relax on a nice beach, China has it all from the majestic Forbidden City in Beijing, to the breathtaking scenery of Jiuzhaigou. Even if you live in China for many years, you'll find that there's always something new to discover in another part of the country. Perhaps unsurprising due to its sheer size and long history, China has the third largest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, after Italy and Spain.
Karst Scenery
=============
The gumdrop mountains and steeply sloping forested hills with bizarre rock formations favored by traditional Chinese artists are not creative fantasy. In fact, much of southern and southwestern China is covered in strangely eroded rock formations known as Karst. Karst is type of limestone formation named after an area in Slovenia. As limestone layers erode, the denser rock or pockets of different stone resist erosion forming peaks. Caves hollow out beneath the mountains which can collapse forming sinkholes and channels leading to underground rivers. At its most unusual Karst erodes to form mazes of pinnacles, arches and passageways. The most famous example can be found in the Stone Forest (石林 Shílín) near Kunming in Yunnan. Some of the most famous tourist areas in China feature spectacular karst landscapes — Guilin and Yangshuo in Guangxi, and much of central and western Guizhou province.
Sacred sites
==========
Several sites in China have famous Buddhist art:
Yungang Grottoes in Shanxi Province - more than 51,000 Buddhist carvings, dating back 1,500 years, in the recesses and caves of the Yangang Valley mountainsides
Mogao Caves in Gansu province - art and manuscripts dating back to the 4th century
Dazu Rock Carvings near Chongqing - dating from the 7-13th century
Longmen Grottoes near Luoyang - 5-10th century
Mountains
========
The Five Great Mountains (五岳 wǔyuè), associated with Taoism:
Mount Tai (泰山), Shandong Province (1,545 meters)
Mount Hua (华山), Shaanxi Province (2,054 meters)
Mount Heng (Hunan) (衡山), Hunan Province (1,290 meters)
Mount Heng (Shanxi) (恒山), Shanxi Province (2,017 meters)
Mount Song (嵩山), Henan Province, where the famous Shaolin Temple (少林寺) is located (1,494 meters)
The Four Sacred Mountains (四大佛教名山 sìdà fójiào míngshān), associated with Buddhism:

===========
=============
==========
Mountains
========
The Five Great Mountains (五岳 wǔyuè), associated with Taoism:
Mount Tai (泰山), Shandong Province (1,545 meters)
Mount Hua (华山), Shaanxi Province (2,054 meters)
Mount Heng (Hunan) (衡山), Hunan Province (1,290 meters)
Mount Heng (Shanxi) (恒山), Shanxi Province (2,017 meters)
Mount Song (嵩山), Henan Province, where the famous Shaolin Temple (少林寺) is located (1,494 meters)
The Four Sacred Mountains (四大佛教名山 sìdà fójiào míngshān), associated with Buddhism:
Mount Emei (峨嵋山), Sichuan Province (3,099 meters)
Mount Jiuhua (九华山), Anhui Province (1,342 meters)
Mount Putuo (普陀山), Zhejiang Province (297 meters, an island)

Chinese cuisine includes styles originating from the diverse regions of China, as well as from Chinese people in other parts of the world. The history of Chinese cuisine in China stretches back for thousands of years and has changed from period to period and in each region according to climate, imperial fashions, and local preferences.
Over time, techniques and ingredients from the cuisines of other cultures were integrated into the cuisine of the Chinese people due both to imperial expansion and from the trade with nearby regions in pre-modern times, and from Europe and the New World in the modern period.
The Eight Culinary Cuisines of China are Anhui, Cantonese, Fujian, Hunan, Jiangsu, Shandong, Szechuan, and Zhejiang cuisines.
Prominent styles of Chinese cuisine outside China include Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonesian, Indian and American, but there is Chinese cuisine wherever Chinese people are found.
The staple foods of Chinese cooking include rice, noodles, vegetables, and sauces and seasonings.
A number of different styles contribute to Chinese cuisine but perhaps the best known and most influential are Cantonese cuisine, Shandong cuisine, Jiangsu cuisine (specifically Huaiyang cuisine) and Szechuan cuisine.
These styles are distinctive from one another due to factors such as availability of resources, climate, geography, history, cooking techniques and lifestyle.
One style may favour the use of lots of garlic and shallots over lots of chilli and spices, while another may favour preparing seafood over other meats and fowl.
Jiangsu cuisine favours cooking techniques such as braising and stewing, while Sichuan cuisine employs baking, just to name a few.
Hairy crab is a highly sought after local delicacy in Shanghai, as it can be found in lakes within the region. Peking duck and dim-sum are other popular dishes well known outside of China.

Styles and tastes also varied by class, region, and ethnic background. This led to an unparalleled range of ingredients, techniques, dishes and eating styles in what could be called Chinese food, leading Chinese to pride themselves on eating a wide variety of foods while remaining true to the spirit and traditions of Chinese food culture.

Over the last three centuries, Kaohsiung has grown from a humble trading village, into Taiwan’s busiest harbor. As a shipping and industrial powerhouse, Kaohsiung has had a gritty past. But today, a fresh wind is blowing, creating a modern, creative, and highly livable city.
