We woke up late and decided to visit the national treasure that is Inuyama Castle for half a day, just outside of Nagoya!

Inuyama (犬山市, Inuyama-shi) is a city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, north of the Nagoya Metropolis.
As of May 2015, the city had an estimated population of 74,200 and a population density of 911 persons per km². The total area was 74.90 square kilometres (28.92 sq mi).
Geography
Inuyama lies along the edge of Aichi Prefecture, separated from neighboring Gifu Prefecture by the Kiso River.

History
During the Edo period, Inuyama was a sub-domain of Owari Domain, entrusted to senior retainers of the Nagoya-branch of the Tokugawa clan.
Immediately following the Meiji Restoration in 1868, it was established as an independent feudal han, until the 1871 abolition of the han system. With the cadastral reforms of October 1, 1889, the town of Inuyama was created. Inuyama was elevated to city status in 1954.

Japanese Castle and Cherry Blossoms, Inuyama Castle in Aichi pref. Japan Trip
The donjon of Inuyama castle is one of the only 5 Japan's natinal treasure donjons. It is the oldest of all donjons in Japan and precious in learning medieval Japanese castles. Inuyama castle is not very big but it looks stately and graceful. In particular, I'd like to recommand visiting the castle in spring because the beauty of the donjon in full-blown cherry blossoms is beyond description. The castle is located within a 50 minute train ride and walk of Nagoya station, so I think Inuyama castle could be one of your destinations if you're planning a trip to Nagoya city. Thanks.

Museum Meiji-mura
Inuyama City is situated in northwestern Aichi. Inuyama Castle, a national treasure with the oldest castle tower in existence in Japan, stands at the center of the city, which still retains the atmosphere of an old castle town built in the 17th century. Also known as Hakutei Castle, it was built in the late 16th century. The castle is surrounded by the Okumura Residence, Urakuen, and other residences that preserve merchants' lives in the past. You can also watch a traditional event, 'ukai,' fishing for smelts with cormorants.The city is also noted for the "Nihon (Japan's) Rhine." It is the oldest of all donjons in Japan and precious in learning medieval Japanese castles.
Inuyama castle is not very big but it looks stately and graceful. In particular, I'd like to recommand visiting the castle in spring because the beauty of the donjon in full-blown cherry blossoms is beyond description.
The castle is located within a 50 minute train ride and walk of Nagoya station, so I think Inuyama castle could be one of your destinations if you're planning a trip to Nagoya city.

Inuyama Castle, a national treasure with the oldest castle tower in existence in Japan, stands at the center of the city, which still retains the atmosphere of an old castle town built in the 17th century. Also known as Hakutei Castle, it was built in the late 16th century. The castle is surrounded by the Okumura Residence, Urakuen, and other residences that preserve merchants' lives in the past. You can also watch a traditional event, 'ukai,' fishing for smelts with cormorants.The city is also noted for the "Nihon (Japan's) Rhine." This is a downstream riverboat ride along the rapid currents of the Kiso River, which is one of the 100 best waters in Japan. In the neighboring areas, there are attractive open-air museums, such as "Museum Meiji-mura", which preserves the structures and other cultural assets of the last quarter of the 19th century, which is the time of Japan's modernization and westernization, "Little World", where you can explore the traditional houses from all over the world, and the unique "Japan Monkey Park" in the study of the anthropoids.
