Peebles (Scottish Gaelic: Na Pùballan) is a royal burgh in Tweeddale (of which it is the county town), within the Scottish Borders region. According to the 2001 Census, the population was 8,159.

History

Initially a market town, Peebles played a role in the woollen industry of the Borders up until the 1960s. Although one woollen mill remains operational in the town, the industrial composition of Peebles has changed; the town is now home to many people who commute to work in Edinburgh, as well as being a popular tourist destination, especially in the summer. In the mid-to-late 19th century, this included health tourism, centring on hydropathic establishments, which over time morphed into a hotel format, with Peebles Hydro Hotel being one of the few survivors of that era. Notable buildings in the town include the Old Parish Church of Peebles and Neidpath Castle. Other local attractions include a museum and the Kailzie Gardens. It has won multiple awards for an excellent range of shops on its High Street.

Michelle Yim

Michelle Yim Wai-ling (Chinese: 嚴惠玲; born September 2, 1955), also known by her Chinese stage name Mai Suet (Chinese: 米雪), is a Hong Kong actress and elder sister of former actress Shirley Yim Shuet Lei (Chinese: 雪梨). She graduated from St. Rose of Lima's College and Shaw Brothers' Training School.

For her popular villain role in 2008's TVB acclaimed drama, 'Moonlight Resonance', she won Best Actress at TVB Anniversary Awards 2008, Guangzhou TV Awards 2009 and also at Asian Television Awards 2009. She is the first Hong Kong television actress to sweep three Best Actress awards from a single role across Asia Pacific, and also the first Hong Kong actress to win Best Actress at the prestigious Asian Television Awards.

Career

Early life and career

In 1975, Yim joined Commercial Television (CTV), and began her journey onto the television circles. In 1976, Yim acted in Legend of the Condor Heroes, a Wuxia TV series adaptation of Louis Cha's novel of the same title. For the first time, Yim took up the role as a female lead, portraying the character Wong Yung. This drama not only shot her into the limelight, but also created the first one million ratings in the television history. She has since been awarded the Top Ten Artiste Award several times.

Your Bottom Line

Your Bottom Line is a CNN news program focusing on financial news hosted by Christine Romans. The program was hosted by Gerri Willis before her departure from CNN in February 2010. She later moved to Fox Business in March 2010 The show airs Saturdays at 9:30am on CNN. Originally called Open House, the program is designed to show how the political and economic news of the week affects a viewer's bottom line. The topics discussed on Your Bottom Line have shifted from a narrow real estate focus to a broader discussion of personal finance, from houses to cars, from personal debt to bank accounts. The stated goal of 'Your Bottom Line' is to give viewers information so that they can save as much money as possible.

Michael Kooman

Michael Kooman is a composer living in New York City. He is most known for his cabaret songs as well as composing the musicals "Homemade Fusion", "Dani Girl" and "The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes" with Christopher Dimond. He is half of the writing team of Kooman and Dimond.

Awards

Along with Christopher Dimond, he received the $50,000 2013 Fred Ebb Award as well as the 2010 Jonathan Larson Grant. In 2011, they were awarded the first Lorenz Hart Award, given by the ASCAP Foundation. In 2009, he received the Burton Lane Award from the American Theatre Hall of Fame, and received a fellowship from both the Dramatists Guild of America as well as the O'neill Musical Theatre Festival.

He has completed the advanced BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop and is currently a member of the Dramatists Guild of America.

Musicals

Michael Kooman graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in 2006 where he met collaborator, Dimond. Their first collaboration was "Homemade Fusion" in March 2006. Since the premiere, "Homemade Fusion" has been performed across the country as well an internationally. The show debuted at Carnegie Mellon University in 2006, with a subsequent production at the Pittsburgh CLO Cabaret Theater. This production featured Tony Award winner Patina Miller, Kara Lindsay, Anderson Davis, Andrew Kober, and many other Carnegie Mellon Drama School Alumni. In 2010, the show was performed at the Ambassadors theater in London. Songs from "Homemade Fusion" have amassed more than a million views on their YouTube channel.

The Bottom Line (venue)

The Bottom Line was a music venue at 15 West 4th Street between Mercer Street and Greene Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. During the 1970s and 1980s the club was a major space for small-scale popular music performances.

History

Owned by Allan Pepper and Stanley Snadowsky, the Bottom Line opened on February 12, 1974 and enjoyed a successful three-decade run, presenting major musical acts and premiering new talent. Bruce Springsteen played showcase gigs at the club and Lou Reed recorded the album Live: Take No Prisoners there. Harry Chapin held his 2000th concert at the Bottom Line in January 1981.

The Bottom Line hosted an extremely wide variety of music and musicians.
