Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair

Thikkurissy Sukumaran Nair (Malayalam: തിക്കുറിശ്ശി സുകുമാരൻ നായർ; 16 October 1916 – 11 March 1997) was a Nagercoilite born Malayali Indian poet, playwright, script writer, lyricist, orator, film director and actor, though he is best known as an actor in Malayalam cinema. He is the recipient of Padmashri from the Government of India, which is one of the highest civilian honours in India. In a career that spanned about 47 years, he acted in over 700 films. He is considered to be the first movie star in Malayalam cinema.

Early life

Sukumaran Nair was born on 16 October 1916 in the village of Thikkurissy, Nagercoil, then a part of Travancore. The village of Thikkurissy is now in Nanchilnadu, Nagercoil, Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu. He was born in an aristocratic family to Mangat C. Govinda Pillai and N. Lekshmi Amma. He was a good writer and an orator even when he was doing his schooling in Marthanda Varma School. He wrote his first poem at the age of 8 and his poem was published for the first time when he was 14 in Dhakshina Bharathi. His poems were collectively published as a book named Kedavilakku when he was 20. His parents wanted him to secure a government job, but he launched his career in writing and arts even before he completed his studies. Incidentally, his sister L. Omanakkunjamma was the first female magistrate in India.

Sukumaran

Edappal Ponnamkuzhi Veettil Sukumaran Nair (10 June 1948 – 16 June 1997), popularly known as Sukumaran, was an Indian film actor and producer.

Sukumaran became a popular film star in Malayalam cinema during the 1970s. He was considered as one of the superstar trio of Malayalam cinema during the late 1970s and early 1980s along with M. G. Soman and Jayan. Later, he became known for his character roles and antagonistic roles during the 1980s and 1990s. In 1978, he won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in M. T. Vasudevan Nair's Bandhanam. As a producer, he produced such films as Irakal and Padayani.

In June 1997, Sukumaran suffered a massive heart attack and died. He was 49.

Early life

Sukumaran was born in Edappal, Malappuram, India, as the elder son of Parameshwaran Nair and Subhadramma. He had a brother and two sisters. He had his primary education from St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Pala. After completing his master's degree in English Literature from University College, Thiruvananthapuram with gold medal, he began a job as a college lecturer for three years at Government College Kasaragod and Scott Christian College, Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu

Prem Nazir

Abdul Khader (7 April 1926 – 16 January 1989), better known by his stage name Prem Nazir, was an Indian film actor best known for his work in Malayalam cinema. He is considered one of the all time super stars in Malayalam cinema. He is referred to as the Nithya Haritha Nayakan (Ever Green Hero) of Malayalam cinema.

Nazir holds two Guinness World Records; for playing the lead role in a record 725 films, and for playing opposite the same heroine in 130 films (with Sheela). He also holds two other acting records; for acting opposite eighty heroines and for acting in lead roles in thirty nine films which were released in a single year (1979). He is regarded as one of the most successful actors in Indian cinema, and is also known for his powerful performances in films like Iruttinte Athmavu, Kallichellamma, Dhwani, Murappennu, Anubhavangal Paalichakal, Padayottam, Vida Parayum Munpe, Azhakulla Saleena, and Nadhi. Nazir also tried his hand in politics but was unsuccessful. The Government of India has honoured him with the Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri, the third and fourth highest civilian honours respectively, for his contribution towards Indian cinema. He died due to measles on 16 January 1989.

Malayalam

Malayalam /mʌləˈjɑːləm/ (മലയാളം, Malayāḷam ^?[mɐləjaːɭəm]), sometimes referred to as Kairali, is a language spoken in India, predominantly in the state of Kerala. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India and was designated a Classical Language in India in 2013. Malayalam has official language status in the state of Kerala and in the union territories of Lakshadweep and Puducherry. It belongs to the Dravidian family of languages and is spoken by some 38 million people. Malayalam is also spoken in the neighboring states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka; with some speakers in the Nilgiris, Kanyakumari and Coimbatore districts of Tamil Nadu, and the Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts of Karnataka.

Film

A film, also called a movie, motion picture or photoplay, is a series of still images which, when shown on a screen, creates the illusion of moving images due to the phi phenomenon. This optical illusion causes the audience to perceive continuous motion between separate objects viewed rapidly in succession. A film is created by photographing actual scenes with a motion picture camera; by photographing drawings or miniature models using traditional animation techniques; by means of CGI and computer animation; or by a combination of some or all of these techniques and other visual effects. The word "cinema", short for cinematography, is often used to refer to the industry of films and filmmaking or to the art of filmmaking itself. The contemporary definition of cinema is the art of simulating experiences to communicate ideas, stories, perceptions, feelings, beauty or atmosphere by the means of recorded or programmed moving images along with other sensory stimulations.

The process of filmmaking is both an art and an industry.
