The economy of Japan is the third largest in the world after the United States and the People's Republic of China and is the world's second largest developed economy According to the International Monetary Fund, the country's per capita GDP (PPP) was at $34,362 or the 24th highest in 2011.
Japan is the world's 2nd largest automobile manufacturing country, has the largest electronics goods industry, and is often ranked among the world's most innovative countries leading several measures of global patent filings. Facing increasing competition from China and South Korea, manufacturing in Japan today now focuses primarily on high-tech and precision goods, such as optical equipment, hybrid cars, and robotics.
Japan is the world's largest creditor nation, generally running an annual trade surplus and having a considerable net international investment surplus. As of 2010, Japan possesses 13.7% of the world's private financial assets (the 2nd largest in the world) at an estimated $14.6 trillion.

i/dʒəˈpæn/ (Japanese: 日本 Nihon or Nippon; formally 日本国 
Nippon-koku or Nihon-koku, literally the State of Japan) is an island nation in East Asia. Located in the Pacific Ocean, it lies to the east of the Sea of Japan, China, North Korea, South Korea and Russia, stretching from the Sea of Okhotsk in the north to the East China Sea and Taiwan in the south. The characters that make up Japan's name mean "sun-origin", which is why Japan is sometimes referred to as the "Land of the Rising Sun".
Japan is an archipelago of 6,852 islands. The four largest islands are Honshū, Hokkaidō, Kyūshū and Shikoku, together accounting for ninety-seven percent of Japan's land area. Japan has the world's tenth-largest population, with over 127 million people. The Greater Tokyo Area, which includes the de facto capital city of Tokyo and several surrounding prefectures, is the largest metropolitan area in the world, with over 30 million residents.
Archaeological research indicates that people lived in Japan as early as the Upper Paleolithic period. The first written mention of Japan is in Chinese history texts from the 1st century AD. Influence from other nations followed by long periods of isolation has characterized Japan's history. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, victory in the First Sino-Japanese War, the Russo-Japanese War and World War I allowed Japan to expand its empire during a period of increasing militarism. The Second Sino-Japanese War of 1937 expanded into part of World War II in 1941, which came to an end in 1945 following the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Since adopting its revised constitution in 1947, Japan has maintained a unitary constitutional monarchy with an emperor and an elected parliament called the Diet.

JAL Japan Airlines on their internationally configured 787-8 Dreamliner flying from Vancouver YVR to Tokyo Narita Airport. flight number is JL17. I was sitting in seat 26A, a window seat. Love the 787. I definitely feel better upon landing compared to a regular aircraft due to the better cabin humidity. If you have long legs though, I do not recommend the window seat. The space underneath the seat in front of you for your feet is incredibly small and makes for some uncomfortable positions for your feet.

JAL Japan Airlines on their internationally configured 787-8 Dreamliner flying from Vancouver YVR to Tokyo Narita Airport. flight number is JL17. I was sitting in seat 26A, a window seat. Love the 787. I definitely feel better upon landing compared to a regular aircraft due to the better cabin humidity. If you have long legs though, I do not recommend the window seat. The space underneath the seat in front of you for your feet is incredibly small and makes for some uncomfortable positions for your feet. -

The flight was delayed a few hours due to volcanic activity in Japan so the passengers with connecting flights were moved into Premium Economy where they'd be able to deplane quick to make their connections. In order to keep the world’s third-largest economy afloat, the Japanese government offers an internship program that attracts foreign workers from China, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The program, which allows workers to stay for three years, is advertised as providing laborers with transferrable new skills for when they return home.
VICE News recently traveled to Japan to investigate the internship program. We found that many interns are underpaid, saddled with insurmountable debt, and forced into a form of indentured servitude. Many are illegally placed as oyster shuckers, construction workers, and other unskilled positions. And, despite international condemnation, Japan plans to use thousands of new foreign interns to build the infrastructure for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

JAL Japan Airlines on their internationally configured 787-8 Dreamliner flying from Vancouver YVR to Tokyo Narita Airport. flight number is JL17. I was sitting in seat 26A, a window seat.
Love the 787. I definitely feel better upon landing compared to a regular aircraft due to the better cabin humidity.
If you have long legs though, I do not recommend the window seat. The space underneath the seat in front of you for your feet is incredibly small and makes for some uncomfortable positions for your feet.

ANA Boeing 787 Dreamliner Seattle - Tokyo Flight Experience

All Nippon Airways flight trip from Seattle, WA to Narita, Japan onboard ANA's Boeing 787 Dreamliner. This flight is a mixture of Economy and Premium Economy. The flight was delayed a few hours due to volcanic activity in Japan so the passengers with connecting flights were moved into Premium Economy where they'd be able to deplane quick to make their connections.
This flight was filmed completely by my wife and put together by myself. The only other involvement I had was taking her to the airport so she could visit her family in the Philippines for Christmas.
Enjoy the ride and stay tuned for the connecting flight onboard ANA's Boeing 767!

Falling prices and an aging society in Korea have prompted many economists to draw parallels with Japan, which has suffered from decades of lost growth.
Experts say... if Korea wants to avoid the fate of its neighbor,... it needs to speed up structural reforms before it′s too late.
Song Ji-sun reports.
Several key economic indicators, though more than two decades apart, are strikingly similar.
For Japan, it was 1989 when growth slowed to the zero percent range, shortly before becoming an aging society.
It′s like deja vu across the East Sea.
Korea′s fertility rate, the average number of children a woman has in her lifetime... has hovered around 1-point-2 in the past four years.
That′s well below the threshold of 2-point-1 needed to maintain the current population level.
The poor fertility rate comes at a time Korea is being hit by the double whammy of low growth and a rapidly aging population.
If Korea does follow the footsteps of Japan and enter a long-term slump, it′s expected to take a harder blow than Japan did.
That′s because Korea′s pension program and safety nets are not as comprehensive as Japan′s were.
Retirees and those preparing for their later years will cut back in spending, in turn fueling deflation... and creating a vicious cycle.

Experts point out that Korea has one competitive edge at the moment: its asset bubble is not as severe as Japan′s.
But they say reforms are needed now and needed quickly.

Falling prices and an aging society in Korea have prompted many economists to draw parallels with Japan, which has suffered from decades of lost growth.
Experts say... if Korea wants to avoid the fate of its neighbor,... it needs to speed up structural reforms before it′s too late.
Song Ji-sun reports.
Several key economic indicators, though more than two decades apart, are strikingly similar.
For Japan, it was 1989 when growth slowed to the zero percent range, shortly before becoming an aging society.
It′s like deja vu across the East Sea.
Korea′s fertility rate, the average number of children a woman has in her lifetime... has hovered around 1-point-2 in the past four years.
That′s well below the threshold of 2-point-1 needed to maintain the current population level.
The poor fertility rate comes at a time Korea is being hit by the double whammy of low growth and a rapidly aging population.
If Korea does follow the footsteps of Japan and enter a long-term slump, it′s expected to take a harder blow than Japan did.
That′s because Korea′s pension program and safety nets are not as comprehensive as Japan′s were.
Retirees and those preparing for their later years will cut back in spending, in turn fueling deflation... and creating a vicious cycle.

Japan is facing a serious labor shortage, a problem that can be traced back to an aging population and a prevailing fear that immigrants will dilute the country’s pure gene pool. In order to keep the world’s third-largest economy afloat, the Japanese government offers an internship program that attracts foreign workers from China, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The program, which allows workers to stay for three years, is advertised as providing laborers with transferrable new skills for when they return home. VICE News recently traveled to Japan to investigate the internship program. We found that many interns are underpaid, saddled with insurmountable debt, and forced into a form of indentured servitude. Many are illegally placed as oyster shuckers, construction workers, and other unskilled positions. And, despite international condemnation, Japan plans to use thousands of new foreign interns to build the infrastructure for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. JAL Japan Airlines on their internationally configured 787-8 Dreamliner flying from Vancouver YVR to Tokyo Narita Airport. flight number is JL17. I was sitting in seat 26A, a window seat. Love the 787. I definitely feel better upon landing compared to a regular aircraft due to the better cabin humidity. If you have long legs though, I do not recommend the window seat. The space underneath the seat in front of you for your feet is incredibly small and makes for some uncomfortable positions for your feet.- published: 26 May 2015

Relatives of a pregnant Honduran teenager, who had been buried after being pronounced dead at a hospital, broke down her tomb and pulled out her coffin after apparently hearing banging from the inside. WDBJ quickly switched back to a shot of the anchor back at the station, her eyes large and jaw dropping as she said, "OK, not sure what happened there. We will of course let you know as soon as we find out what those sounds were from." ... According to her Facebook page, Parker spent most of her life outside Martinsville, Virginia....
