Lightning McQueen, typically referred to by his surname McQueen, is an anthropomorphic racecar in the animated Pixar film Cars (2006), its sequel Cars 2 (2011), and TV shorts known as Cars Toons. He is based on Toyota NASCAR vehicles, but with design influences from the Mazda Miata and Dodge Viper. Late in the original film, he is painted much like the Chevrolet Corvette C1.

The Greater Tokyo Area is the most populous metropolitan area in the world, consisting of the Kantō region of Japan as well as the prefecture of Yamanashi. In Japanese, it is referred to by various terms, the most common of which being National Capital Region.
A 2014 UN estimate puts the population at 37,883,000, making it by far the world's most populous metropolitan area, with more people than the countries of Canada or Iraq. It covers an area of approximately 13,500 km², giving it a population density of 2,642 person/km², which is more than twice the population density of Bangladesh. It is the second largest single metropolitan area in the world in terms of built-up or urban function landmass at 8,547 km², behind only New York City at 11,642 km².

TOKYO, August 20 - Fulfilling a commitment made earlier this year, the Tokyo Electric Power Co. significantly increased the quantity of sampling data to be disclosed about radiation concentrations at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
The company made the commitment after questions had been raised about the adequacy of disclosing certain data that resulted from testing water quality in a drainage channel. The new policy is intended to demonstrate the company's commitment to sharing information with the community.
The quantity of data points is expected to increase to 70,000 per year from approximately 50,000. Where practical, the company will continue its efforts to provide context for the most significant data, including explanatory statements, graphs, or maps.
The commitment to enhance disclosure was made by TEPCO's leadership earlier this year, and was positively commented on by the Nuclear Reform Monitoring Committee, an independent group providing oversight for TEPCO's Nuclear Safety Reform Plan.

Tokyo (東京, Tōkyō?, "Eastern Capital") [toːkʲoː], English /ˈtoʊki.oʊ/; officially Tokyo Metropolis (東京都, Tōkyō-to?), is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan. Tokyo is the capital of Japan, the center of the Greater Tokyo Area, and the largest metropolitan area of the world. It is the seat of the Japanese government and the Imperial Palace, and the home of the Japanese Imperial Family. Tokyo is in the Kantō region on the southeastern side of the main island Honshu and includes the Izu Islands and Ogasawara Islands. Tokyo Metropolis was formed in 1943 from the merger of the former Tokyo Prefecture (東京府, Tōkyō-fu?) and the city of Tokyo (東京市, Tōkyō-shi?).
The Tokyo Metropolitan government administers the 23 special wards of Tokyo (each governed as a city), which cover the area that was the city of Tokyo, as well as 39 municipalities in the western part of the prefecture and the two outlying island chains. The population of the special wards is over 8 million people, with the total population of the prefecture exceeding 13 million. The prefecture is part of the world's most populous metropolitan area with upwards of 35 million people and the world's largest urban agglomeration economy with a GDP of US$1.479 trillion at purchasing power parity in 2008, ahead of New York City metropolitan area, which ranks second on the list. The city hosts 47 of the Fortune Global 500 companies, the highest amount of any city.

TOKYO, August 20 - Fulfilling a commitment made earlier this year, the Tokyo Electric Power Co. significantly increased the quantity of sampling data to be disclosed about radiation concentrations at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.
The company made the commitment after questions had been raised about the adequacy of disclosing certain data that resulted from testing water quality in a drainage channel. The new policy is intended to demonstrate the company's commitment to sharing information with the community.
The quantity of data points is expected to increase to 70,000 per year from approximately 50,000. Where practical, the company will continue its efforts to provide context for the most significant data, including explanatory statements, graphs, or maps.
The commitment to enhance disclosure was made by TEPCO's leadership earlier this year, and was positively commented on by the Nuclear Reform Monitoring Committee, an independent group providing oversight for TEPCO's Nuclear Safety Reform Plan.

Tokyo (東京), Japan, is one of the world's greatest cities, and there's so much to do and see when you visit. From temples and shrines, to gardens and museums, you'll never run out of attractions. Out of all the things you could do, I've chosen a top 25 list for this awesome city (and just so you know food is my first choice in Tokyo)!

7. Tsukiji Market (築地市場) - One of the most famous attractions in all of Tokyo is the Tsukiji Market (築地市場), the biggest seafood market in the world.
8. Shibuya (渋谷区) - With the busiest intersection in the world, Shibuya (渋谷区) is also home to shopping and restaurant.
9. Sumida River (隅田川) - At Tokyo's Sumida River, you can either just walk around the park and enjoy the riverside views, or you can take the Tokyo Cruise in a boat.
10. Tokyo Imperial Palace (皇居) - This is the home of the emperor of Japan. To enter the grounds, you have to make a tour booking on the official website
11. Ueno Park (上野公園), Tokyo National Museum (東京国立博物館) - Ueno Park is a huge public park in Tokyo with shrines, gardens and a number of museums.
12. Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) - They call it Tokyo's biggest attractions. It's a huge communications tower with various viewing decks and galleries.
13. Harajuku (原宿), Takeshita Street (竹下通り) - Famous for its street market and cosplay that takes place, this is a place in the city to see and be seen.
14. Senso-ji (金龍山浅草寺) - Visiting this temple is one of the top things to do in Tokyo, frequented by both tourists and religious pilgrims. It's the oldest temple in Tokyo.

24. Mount Takao (高尾山) - Just 50 km from central Tokyo, this mountain is popular for climbing and is a sacred religious mountains. Makes a good day trip from Tokyo.
25. Food - Finally, food is the reason I visited Japan, and I think eating is by all means one of the best things to do in Tokyo. Food is everywhere, and not only does it taste amazing, but the care that goes into Japanese cuisine is incredible.

Tokyo (東京), Japan, is one of the world's greatest cities, and there's so much to do and see when you visit. From temples and shrines, to gardens and museums, you'll never run out of attractions. Out of all the things you could do, I've chosen a top 25 list for this awesome city (and just so you know food is my first choice in Tokyo)!
1. Ameya-Yokochō (アメヤ横丁) - A giant open air market that offers clothes, cosmetics, food, and restaurants and bars.
2. Meiji Shrine (明治神宮) - This Shinto shrine, surrounded by beautiful forest, is extremely significant.
3. Ryogoku Kokugikan (両国国技館) - Even if it's not fight season, you can go to the free sumo museum and eat sumo chankonabe.
4. Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden (新宿御苑) - The garden is a beautiful attraction in Tokyo, with French gardens, Japanese gardens, and a green house.
5. Ginza (銀座) / Yurakucho (有楽町) - Ginza is a great area of town for upscale shopping and dining, while Yurakucho is famous for Izakaya bars and restaurants under the railroad track.
6. Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building (東京都庁舎) - There are a lot of things to do in Tokyo where you have to pay, but here, you can go to the 45th floor for free.
7. Tsukiji Market (築地市場) - One of the most famous attractions in all of Tokyo is the Tsukiji Market (築地市場), the biggest seafood market in the world.
8. Shibuya (渋谷区) - With the busiest intersection in the world, Shibuya (渋谷区) is also home to shopping and restaurant.
9. Sumida River (隅田川) - At Tokyo's Sumida River, you can either just walk around the park and enjoy the riverside views, or you can take the Tokyo Cruise in a boat.
10. Tokyo Imperial Palace (皇居) - This is the home of the emperor of Japan. To enter the grounds, you have to make a tour booking on the official website
11. Ueno Park (上野公園), Tokyo National Museum (東京国立博物館) - Ueno Park is a huge public park in Tokyo with shrines, gardens and a number of museums.
12. Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー) - They call it Tokyo's biggest attractions. It's a huge communications tower with various viewing decks and galleries.
13. Harajuku (原宿), Takeshita Street (竹下通り) - Famous for its street market and cosplay that takes place, this is a place in the city to see and be seen.
14. Senso-ji (金龍山浅草寺) - Visiting this temple is one of the top things to do in Tokyo, frequented by both tourists and religious pilgrims. It's the oldest temple in Tokyo.
15. Edo-Tokyo Museum (江戸東京博物館) - It looks a little like a UFO, but it's one of Tokyo's main museums, that aims to preserve the history of the city.
16. Fine Dining - Let's just face it, Tokyo is one of the best cities in the world for high class dining - atmosphere, presentation, food, it's all just stunning!
17. Akihabara Electric Town (秋葉原電気街) - If you love electronics and gaming, you're going to love the area of Akihabara. You'll also find those infamous maid cafes here.
18. Tokyo Stock Exchange (東京証券取引所) - Another free attraction in Tokyo is to be a guest at the stock exchange where you can see the Japanese Nikkei being traded.

So now you are in Tokyo and you don't want to spend the day going from a place to another in a dark subway, right?
So here there is my recommendation, an awesome tour of 5 of the best places in Tokyo, all at a walking distance!
Obviously there are more than 5 things to do in Tokyo and each person has their own favorite places to visit. That being said, if you are a first timer in Japan, I recommend you spend half a day to do this tour. SERIOUSLY. Do this and you'll save a lot of time. Unless you want to see Sumo or the fish market, but if you are around my age, you will love this tour. You see the beautiful Japanese Meiji Shrine, see the crazy young Takeshitadori, the cool&hip; Harajuku Cat Street, get lost in Shibuya crossing, walk through the insane Center Street in Shibuya, and check out a really cool shop in Shibuya called LOFT for some shopping. Not to mention one of the best beers/ales in Tokyo and tons of shops on the way.

Hakone is filled with elegant spas and fantastic resorts that complete a relaxing excursion outside the city. Only a day trip away from Tokyo, Hakone continues to draw local and international travelers alike who come to witness the beauty of lake meets majestic mountain. Hop on the shinkansen or bullet train to Odawara, and from there, transfer to Hakone for the fastest route.
The sights of Lake Ashi are best seen with a unique boat ride across the water. Embark across Ashinoko on a fun vessel that resembles a pirate ship and capture the spectacular view of Mount Fuji on a clear day. Along the way, notice the Hakone Jinja Shrine with torii gates on the water to mark its location. This picturesque shrine is one you won't want to miss, so be sure to hike to the top to see it up close!
At Hakone's Open Air Museum, enjoy prime art exhibits with beautiful sculptures and paintings on display. This gallery is also home to a fascinating Picasso Pavilion that completes the experience. The open air museum also includes a Footbath Spa "Hot Foot," a great way to ease weary feet from a day of trekking the sights at Hakone.
When in Hakone, stay inside one of the traditional Japanese inns called ryokan and enjoy some old-school Japanese hospitality. Hakone is also home to an array of onsen or hot springs that are the perfect way to experience steamy relaxation after a long day hiking the trails. Throughout Hakone, volcanic activity can be viewed in places like the Great Boiling Valley or Owakudani. Take a cable car ride to visit this particular volcanic spring that bubbles with pockets of sulfurous steam released from below the earth. Be sure to try the black eggs or kuro-tamago when at Owakudani. According to legend, eating one of these boiled eggs is said to add seven years to your life!
In short, Hakone is a popular day-trip destination from the greater Tokyo area. Hop on a train, hike up a few trails, soak in some hot springs, and head back home. If you really want to you could stay overnight but the accommodation is often pricey especially if you opt for the meal plans.

The Netherlands is one of the lowest lying countries in the world. Over a quarter of the nation lives below sea level. But a growing number of urban planners and architects believe it’s time to stop fighting rising sea levels and instead find ways to live with it.
Koen Olthuis calls himself an ‘aquatecht’, an architect who uses water to help improve the design of a city and work with rising sea levels. Koen’s idea comes down to some pretty simple technology - floating foundations that can support a new generation of buoyant buildings
He’s created over 100 floating houses in the Netherlands in the past 12 years, ranging from apartments to luxury villas but believes his technology can also make a big difference to people in poorer countries who are most vulnerable to rising seas.
Russell Beard travels to the towns of Katwijk and Rotterdam to see how the Netherlands is engineering a future on the water.

This means when Tokyo’s crowded urban landscape is hit with torrential rain there is nowhere for the excess water to go, placing the busy metropolis at the substantial risk of flooding. But urban planners have come up with a simple solution to this dilemma: go underground.
Beneath the busy streets of Tokyo, engineers have built an extensive network of 10-metre wide tunnels, a storm water tank able to hold 670,000 cubic metres of water and shafts 70 metres deep.

Afghanistan’s Female Wardens
Northern Afghanistan’s Bamiyan province is an area better known for the Taliban’s destruction of two giant Buddha statues in 2001 than for its ecotourism. But its pristine lakes and limestone cliffs are home to the country’s first national park, the stunning Band-e-Amir. However, decades of war have eroded the area’s natural wonders with local villagers hunting the wildlife, overfishing the lakes and chopping down the forests just to survive.
But as the country slowly moves to rebuild itself; there are new signs of life. In a country where only 16% of women work not only is the park doing groundbreaking conservation work, it’s also challenging gender stereotypes by hiring four female wardens. From protecting endangered species from poaching to working with locals to end unsustainable practices, Afghani women are joining the battle to protect this precious ecosystem.

Northern Afghanistan’s Bamiyan province is an area better known for the Taliban’s destruction of two giant Buddha statues in 2001 than for its ecotourism. But its pristine lakes and limestone cliffs are home to the country’s first national park, the stunning Band-e-Amir. However, decades of war have eroded the area’s natural wonders with local villagers hunting the wildlife, overfishing the lakes and chopping down the forests just to survive.
But as the country slowly moves to rebuild itself; there are new signs of life. In a country where only 16% of women work not only is the park doing groundbreaking conservation work, it’s also challenging gender stereotypes by hiring four female wardens. From protecting endangered species from poaching to working with locals to end unsustainable practices, Afghani women are joining the battle to protect this precious ecosystem.

I. "Toyko"
The Way of everyday sounds
(From the concrete to the abstract)
As its title indicates, this part finds it source in Tokyo city sounds (subway, bus, voices on speakers, buzzers, elevators, department stores, railway stations, etc.), to which other sounds of Japanese life are mixed (temple bells in Kyoto, priests` bells, drums, announcements of „Sumo" wrestling matches etc.)
In the first phase, the original sounds -- altough modulated, re-worked and assembled in numerous ways -- remain deliberatly identifiable, for the most part. Then, a second phase, rather short, forms a more abstract transition, relying on numerous exclusively electronic sounds (a voice asks the question: "What is ... Japanese sound? " ...).
Finally, the third phase -- the longest one -- is made up of a continuous thread, slowly progressing and often very dense: A direct allusion to the bustling impression given by teeming active masses, an impression this gigantic city can provoke. This "spiraling" development unifies, gathers up, mixes the diverse origins of sound material (concrete and electronic), carrying them towards greater and greater abstraction, which turns the end of "Tokyo" into a kind of transsubstantiation-loss from the distant, nearly forgotten memory of sound "signs" of this city. An example of the "Way", of the "path" through sounds.
